Fan tray overview
LSVM1106SFAN
Introduction to LSVM1106SFAN
The LSVM1106SFAN is a fan tray with blowing fans that blow air to the
inside of the device. It comprises five separate fans. The LSVM1106SFAN
features small size, fast heat dissipation, and hot swapping, and can
automatically adjust the fan speed based on the device temperature.
The fan tray provides a status LED on the front panel to show the
operating status of the fans. When the fans operate properly, the LED is
green. If the LED is red or off, the fans operate abnormally. Figure 1
sh
ows the structure and airflow of the fan tray.

Installing and replacing a fan tray
You can install and replace the LSVM1106SFAN and LSVM2106SFAN
in the same way. For more information, see “Installing a fan tray“ and
Replacing a fan tray.”
Installing a fan tray
IMPORTANT:
Before installing a fan tray, make sure that the airflow direction of
the module meets the ventilation requirement at the installation site.
For more information, see Figure 1 and Figure 2.
Follow these steps to install a fan tray:
Step1 Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap, and make sure that it
makes good skin contact and is properly grounded.
Step2 As shown in Figure 3, u
se a screwdriver to loosen the captive
screws on the filler panel of the fan tray slot, and then remove
the filler panel.
Step3 Unpack the fan tray. Holding the fan tray with both hands with
the upside (marked with an airflow direction label) on top,
gently push the fan tray into the slot along the guide rails until
the fan tray completely seats into the slot, as shown in Figure 4.
Step4 U
se a Phillips screwdriver to fix the captive screws on the fan
tray to secure it into the switch chassis.
Step5 When the switch is running, check the status LED of the fan tray.
If the LED displays green, the installation is correct.

CAUTION:
If you insert the fan tray with the upside facing downward, you
cannot completely insert the module into the slot. If this happens,
pull the fan tray out and then insert it again with the upside on
top.
If you cannot fix the captive screws, check whether the fan tray is
correctly installed.
Replacing a fan tray
CAUTION:
When replacing a fan tray from a running switch, be cautious of
electricity hazards, and do not touch the rotating fans to avoid
bodily injury.
After you unplug a fan tray from a running switch, install a new
fan tray within six minutes to ensure proper ventilation and heat
dissipation of the switch.
When the fan tray is faulty, you must replace it.
Follow these steps to replace a fan tray:
Step1 Prepare an antistatic bag for the removed fan tray.
Step2 Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap, and make sure that it
makes good skin contact and is properly grounded.
Step3 As shown in callout 1 of Figure 5,
use a screwdriver to loosen
the captive screws of the fan tray.
9
Step4 As shown in callout 2 of Figure 5,
holding the handle of the fan
tray, pull the fan tray out of the chassis.
Step5 Put the removed fan tray into the antistatic bag.
Step6 Install a new fan tray. For more information, see “Installing a
fa
n tray.”

NOTE:
If you replace a fan tray from a running switch, and the airflow
direction of the new fan tray is different from the former one, the
alarm message System fan airflow direction is not preferred on
slot X, please check it. appears. To eliminate the alarm, replace
another fan tray with the same airflow direction, or use the fan
