Introduction
This release memo highlights the X.25 and frame relay capabilities offered
in the X.25/Frame Relay Software License Option for the Model 3800 Multi-
media Router, P/N L727-03. With the purchase of this option, the user obtains
the right to use the Model 3800’s support of the X.25 wide-area networking
protocol and the IETF RFC 1294, “Multiprotocol Interconnect over Frame
Relay” protocol.
X.25 and frame relay support is fully functional and available to the user at
initial configuration and startup of the Model 3800 multimedia router. There
is no software key (password) required to enable this support.

Documentation Notes
Model 3800 configuration for X.25 and frame relay is fully explained in
the LattisNet Model 338x/3800 Router Software Installation and Basic
Operation Guide, P/N 893-432-A. Chapter 8, “Configuring Packet-Switched
Software,” explains the following configuration options:
n Configuring for X.25 Level 2, Link Access Procedure, Balanced (LAPB)
n Configuring for X.25 International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative
Committee (CCITT)
n Configuring for Connection Mode Network Service (CMNS) Routing
n Configuring for frame relay
n Configuring for Switched Multimegabit Data Services (SMDS)
Chapter 8 also summarizes the global configuration commands relevant to each
of the packet-switching technologies available in the Model 3800. Appendix F
of this guide offers X.25 diagnostic codes.
For details on version-specific operational parameters, refer to the LattisNet
