About this chapter
Read this chapter attentively. It contains important information to pr event personal injury while servicing an T-20 display on-site.
Furthermore, it includes several cautions to preve nt damage to the T-20 tile. E nsure you understand and follow all the safety guide-
lines, safety instructions and warnings mentioned in this chapter before p erforming any servicing on the T-20 display. After this
chapter additional “warnings” and “cautions” are g iven depending on the servicing procedure. R ead and follow these “warnings” and
“cautions” as well.

1.1 Servicing safety instructions
WARNING: Servicingmustbedonebyauthorizedandqualied technical personnel only, which are thor-
oughly familiar with the product and all of the proper safety checks of this product.
Personal protection
WARNING: Ensure you understand and follow a ll the safety guidelines, safety instructions, warnings and
cautions mentioned in this manual.
WARNING: Be aware of su spended loads.
WARNING: Wear a hard h at to reduce the risk of p erson al injury.
WARNING: Be careful w hile working with heavy loads.
WARNING: Mind your ngers w hile working with heavy loads.
Safety precautions:
Follow all s ervicing and safety instructions m entioned in the servicing procedures.
Unplug the tile AC power c ord from the AC power source and wait about 10 minutes before start any servicing to the tile. This
to allow the capacitors to discharge.
Some boards c ontains electrostatically sens itive devices (E SD). Take the necessary precautions to prevent the incidence of
component damage c aused by static electricity.
Do not modify and/or replicate any component. Barco uses specic materials and manufacturing processes in order to achieve
part strength. No other parts then B arco par ts are allowed.
Additional on-site servicing safety precautions:
Fence off a restricted area of at least 3 meters arou nd the LED-wall using an eye-catching fence and “KEEP O UT ” signs. This
to prevent unauthorized persons coming near the LED-wall during servicing.
Inspect the complete LED-wall for s ecurity, wear, deformation, corrosion, and any other c ircumstances that m ay effect the load
handling capability of the part.
Both hands must be free for se rvicing T-20 tiles in a LED-wall. Therefore the use of a ladder to a ccess a tile is forbidden. Only
the us e of a s caffold or a Z-lift is allowed.
Do not use the stacker system of the LE D-wall to climb into the T-20 display. Always use a scaffold or Z -lift to perform any
servicing or repairing to the display.
In case o f rem oving an T-20 LED module out of a tile, ensure the module is secured with a safety cable to the LED-wall structure.
Take the nec essary precautions to prevent water intrusion inside the T-20 tile due to weather conditions.

2.4 Startup sequence of an T-20 display system
The rst two steps of the startup sequence are done manually.
Startup sequence:
1. Switch on the m ain po wer to the T -20 tiles.
Note: Nothing happens yet.
2. Power up the digitizer.
- The digitizer gener ates a START signal for the rst tile.
- The digitizer places video content, of the last selected input slot, on the data line t o the LED display.
3. The STA RT s ignal triggers the re-sync /controller unit of the rst tile to start up on the line voltage prov ided on the data cable.
- The re-sync/controller unit transfers the START signal to an ON signal for the local SMPS.
- The gre en LED on the re-sync/controller un it remains off.
- The red LED on the re-sync/controller unit will only light up in case there is no video content present on the incoming data line.
- The re-sync/controller unit delays the STA RT signal about half a seco nd before sending it to the next tile. Th is is necessary
to reduce the inrush current of the c omplete T -20 display. This delayed STA RT signal will activate the next tile and so on.
4. The ON signal from the re-sync/controller unit triggers the local SMPS to start up.
- The internal fans starts to turn.
5. The power distribution unit starts up.
- The po wer distribution unit generates +15V and +8V.
- The +15 V red LED and the +8V red LED goes on.
6. The controller starts up.
- The controller generates the local +5V and the local +8V line voltage.
- The +5V r ed LED on the controller unit goes on.
- The local +8V line voltage supports the line voltage on the data cab le to supply the resync-unit.
7. The controller unit starts to initialize.
- The ye llow LE D on the controller unit lights up c ontinuously.
- The green LED(s) on the controller unit starts lighting up after the FPGA (s) are congured.
- The Yellow LED on the controller unit starts to ash (half a second on, half a s econd off) indicating the controller is c ompletely
and correctly initialized.
8. The LED driver receives data from the controller.
- The yellow LE D on the LE D drivers goes on.
9. The T-20 tile s hows video content.

Status LED’s on t he re-sync unit
The re-sync unit is provided with a yellow and a g reen status LED . These status LED’s are visible through the data output por t of
the re-sync unit, see illustration below. N ote t hat you have to unplug the data output of the re- sync unit to s ee the LE D’s.
The controller and re- sync circu its are b uilt on the same P CB board of the re-sync unit. The controller rm w are
and controller software include the functionality of the re-sync unit. So, the T-20 does not have a separate
rmw are le for the re-sync unit.

3. Diagnostics
3.2 Manual startup of the PSU
Why starting up the PSU manually?
To determine the cause of a malfunction T -20 tile it can be very interesting to exclude the possibility of a bad function PS U. Norm ally
the PS U receives a ’START’ signal from theRe-sync/controller unit via the pow er distribution unit. When this signal does not reach
the P SU, because for exam ple a malfunction Re-sync/controller unit, the PSU does not start up.
WARNING: Never install a T-20 tile permanently with a jumper link on J100).
WARNING: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. First, always disconnect the main power before initializing this pro-
cedure. This procedure can only be performed by experienced service perso nnel!
Necessary tools
Flat screwdriver.
Necessary parts
Jumper link.
How to startup the PSU manually?
1. Place a jumper link on J100 of the PSU.
Image 3-2
NOTE: Only for the clearness of this picture, the cover is removed from the PSU.
2. Power up the PSU.
3. Determine the goo d or bad operation of the P SU.
