installation, operation and maintenance.
Attention:
1. Pay attention to the power supply cord before installing the TV set. Do not hang anything
on the cord, and avoid treading on the cord.
2. The slots on the housing back are designed for ventilation to ensure reliable operation
of the TV set and prevent overheating. They must never be covered or blocked. The TV
set must not be placed near a heat source or it might be damaged.
3. The outdoor antenna must not be erected close to HV lines or other power supply lines.
Use extreme care when erecting the antenna and not to touch living wires or injury may
occur.
4. This TV set can only use the supply voltage and frequency indicated on the back of the
housing. If your power supply does not comply with them, please consult with the service
personnel.
5. Do not let any object fall into the ventilation openings of the TV set housing, nor let any
liquid flow into the machine via the openings.
6. Do not subject the TV set to rain, or use it in a damp environment. When cleaning dust,
be sure to remove the power supply plug from its socket first. Do not clean the housing
directly with liquid detergent, use a damp cloth. Be sure to remove the power supply plug
from its socket and remove the antenna plug during a thunderstorm or when it will not be
used for long time, to avoid components being damaged by lightning.
7. If you use an indoor antenna, do not let it touch any electrical appliance, or normal recep-
tion of TV programs may be affected.
TEAC_22inch_IDTV_draft.p65 22.10.2004, 14:358

TUNING IN - DIGITAL BROADCAST
Your TV will switch on in the digital mode. Because this is the first time that the TV has
been used, there are no channels stored in the memory and the First Time Installa-
tion menu is displayed on the screen.
The TV will automatically tune to VHF transmission channels 2 to 12 and UHF trans-
mission channels 28 to 69 looking for digital terrestrial TV broadcasts and display-
ing the names of the channels found. This process will take about three minutes.
After Automatic search is finalized the following menu appears.

HINT
Depending on the reception conditions
in your particular area, you may find that
the list of channels found includes one
or more repeated names. This is be-
cause the TV may detect and store
some channels, including those it can-
not receive clearly, from adjacent areas
alongside the strong channels from a
transmitter nearby. This is not a problem
and the weaker channels can be delet-
ed from the TV later, as described in
ADVANCED OPERATION - Editing the
channel list section.
If no digital terrestrial television
broadcasts are found the TV will
display a message:
You should then refer to the Tips/
Troubleshooting Guide to establish
the cause of the problem.
If you select Yes
After A.P.S. is completed program table is displayed on the screen. See the
Programming menu in terrestrial TV section.
If you select No, the first channel of the channel list is displayed you can
now watch digital terrestrial television, selecting the channel you require as
described in the next section.

everyday operation
There are a many great keys to use in different situations. Many of the menu
screens displayed by the TV have reminders as to which keys do what, at the base
of the screen. In addition, many screens have further help available which is dis-
played when the INFOkey is pressed, as prompted at the bottom right of the
screen.
Pressing the TV/DTV key at any time while watching television programmes will
switch the TV set between displaying the digital terrestrial television programme and
its normal analogue television reception.
CHANGING CHANNELS
Hint
The LCN numbers are assigned by
the broadcasters. Because not all
channels are broadcast and stored
by the TV, the channel list numbers
do not run continuously.
The fifteenth channel in the list, for
example, may not be channel num-
ber 15 but channel number 17.
When you press a number key on the
remote control, a small box appears in
the top left of the screen to show the
entered number. After each digit is en-
tered, the TV will wait up to two sec-
onds for the next digit to be pressed
until either three digits have been en-
tered or you do not press a digit in
time. The channel corresponding to the
entered number in the box will then be
selected.
CHANGING CHANNELS
You can select the channel you wish to watch in one of four ways - stepping
through the channel list, selection by number, from the on-screen channel list, and
using the electronic programme guide (EPG).
To move through the channel list, press the P/CH+ or -P/CH keys on the
remote control. Pressing the P/CH+ key will select the channel next in the chan-
nel list. Pressing the -P/CH key will select the previous channel in the list.
Pressing the P/CH+key when the last channel in the list is being viewed will
select the first channel. Similarly, pressing the -P/CH key when the first channel is
displayed will select the last channel in the channel list.
You can also select the required channel by directly using its channel sort number.
Your TV has two kinds of channel sorting mechanism. Name (Alphabetical) list and
LCN sort.
In alphabetical sort, all stored channels are ordered according to their name, i.e.
letter A first, Z last. In this mode channel list numbers are continuous, and entering
a number using the remote control will directly remove you to that channel. Also
entering a number greater than the number of stored channels will select the last
channel.
Other type of channel sorting mechanism is LCN sort. LCN is the unique number
for every channel in network which is assigned by the broadcaster, to establish a
logical connection between the channel and network. In this sorting mode LCN
number must be entered to select a channel.

everyday operation
Hint
Not all channels broadcast the pro-
gramme data. If the name and times
of the programme is not available then
No Event Information is displayed in
the information banner.
The information banner gives a num-
ber of facts on the channel selected
and the programs on it.
-Channel number or LCN (logical chan-
nel number) number according to cur-
rent sorting mode
-Name of the channel
-Name of the current Network
-Current Time and Date
-A bar indicating current level of signal
-Current event name, next event name,
their start and end times, their types
and parental ratings
While watching TV by pressing the
INFOkey, you can see a more de-
tailed info banner at the bottom of the
screen. In this banner, in addition to
channel information, you can also see
extended event information of current
and next event.
Many icons are displayed in the infor-
mation banner. These are;
-Favourite icon indicating that current
channel is set as favorite (if the chan-
nel is not set as favourite the field is
left empty)
-Dolby Sound (AC3) icon (if the chan-
nel has not Dolby Digital Audio the
field is left empty)
-Lock icon indicating that current
channel is locked. (if the channel is
not locked the field is left empty)
- Teletext icon indicating that the chan-
nel has Teletext or not. (if the channel
has not Teletext service the field is left
empty)
-TV or Radio icon depending on the
current type of channel.

INFORMATION BANNER
Whenever you change channel, using the P/CH+and -P/CH keys or the
number keys, the TV display the channel picture along with an information banner at
the bottom of the screen. This will remain on the screen for approximately four sec-
onds.
If the selected channel is locked (see

digit code to view the channel. If you for-
get the code of a locked channel, you

activate the rename feature. Following the previous procedure, the name appears on the
right side of the menu with the first character highlighted.

ADDING LOCKS TO CHANNELS
Channel Locking provides a password-protected access to channels selected by par-
ents. In order to lock a channel you should know the Parental Lock password (default
value is set to 0000 in the factory and can only be changed from the Configuration
Menu). Select the channel to be locked by highlighting it and select the Lock option.
When SELECT key is pressed a password box is displayed.
Enter the parental Lock code you wish to use followed by pressing SELECT key. The
Lock icon
will now be displayed in front of the selected channel. Repeat the same
operation to cancel the Lock.
