Extender Series • Setup Guide
ATTENTION: Installation and service must be performed by authorized personnel only. These products must be used with
UL Listed, grounded electrical boxes.
Step 1 — Disconnect Power
Turn all of the equipment off and disconnect the power cords from the power source.
Step 2 — Install the Wall Box
Select the installation location and install the electrical wall box, as shown at right.
NOTE: The Extron Extender AAP EX does not require a wall box if it is installed into an
Extron HSA 400 Series or HSA 800 Series surface access product.
Step 3 — Attach Cables
Attach the cables as shown in figure 1. below. For details on all connections, see the
installation instructions in the Extender Series User Guide. For the Extender AAP EX, install the
unit into the faceplate of an Extron HSA 400 Series or HSA 800 Series surface access product
before attaching the cables.

Step 4 — Mount AAPs
Mount all AAPs into faceplates with AAP openings, as in the example at right.
Mount Extender AAP models into wall plates or faceplates. — The Extender AAP or
ExtenderAAP EX and any other adapter plates must be attached to a device faceplate or AAP
wallplate and cabled before the device or wallplate is pretested or installed in a wall or furniture
1. Before any user-supplied cables are attached, insert the output BNC connectors and wires
of the Extender AAP or Extender AAP EX through the opening in the front of the
wallplate or device faceplate, as shown at right.
ATTENTION: Be careful not to damage connectors while placing the
Extender through the opening.
2. Insert the threaded standoffs of the AAP through the holes in the device
faceplate or AAP wallplate.
3. Using the provided #4-40 nuts and captive washers, secure the Extender
to the faceplate or wallplate (see figure 2).

4. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 to mount other AAPs. Cover any openings in the faceplate with blank plates (provided).
5. Be sure to include the AAP connectors as part of the installation pretest before final installation of the faceplate.

Step 5 — Connect Power
Connect power and turn the equipment on.
Step 6 — Test and Adjust the System
1. Test the system and set the gain switch,
shown at right.
2. Ensure that all devices receive power.
3. Check and adjust cabling and gain as needed.
Step 7 — Disconnect Power
Disconnect power from all the devices.
Step 8 — Mount the Extender
Mount the line driver into the electrical box or the body of the HSA. See the ExtenderAKMMAAP Installation Guide, or the
appropriate HSA Series user guide, as needed.
Step 9 — Install the Faceplate (Extender D)
For the Extender D, install the decorator-style faceplate.
Step 10 — Restore Power
Restore power to the devices.
