1 Introduction to the Power Module
Introduction
The PSR750-A is an AC-input and DC-output power module. It can convert the input voltage to 12 V
and –54 V as required, and its maximum output power is 750 W. The PSR750-D is a DC-input and
DC-output power module. It can convert the input voltage to 12 V and –52 V as required, and its
maximum output power is 1800 W.

Feature Description
Protection
Output over-voltage protection, output short-circuit protection, output
current-limiting protection, and overheat protection.
Redundancy
Supports parallel connection of two power modules, thus implementing 1+1
redundant current sharing.
Hot swapping
When the device works normally, you can power off a power module of the 1+1
redundant power supply system and remove it from the device.
Auto-recovery support of the PSR 750-A/PSR750-D in the protection status is shown in

z In the case of short-circuit protection, over-current protection, or overheat protection, the power
module recovers itself after the issue is addressed.
z When a power module is deadly locked due to over-voltage protection, it does not support the
auto-recovery function. In this case, you need to power off the module, disconnect the power cord
and connect it again, and then power on the module. After all these operations, the power module
gets restored.
z With the wrong input polarity protection function, the PSR750-D can stop power supply if the DC
input polarity is wrong. After the input polarity is corrected, the power module gets restored.

Status LEDs
The PSR750-A/PSR750-D has two LEDs, which indicate the input status (AC OK) and output status
(DC OK) of the power module.
Table 1-4 describes the colors and working status of the LEDs in different
cases.

OUTPUT
OK
On The power output is normal.
In normal cases, the input LED of the PSR750-A power module turns on while the output LED is still off
after you connect the power cord but leave the power module in the off state; the input and output LEDs
both turn on after you power on and switch on the power module.
The input and output LEDs both turn on after you install the PSR750-D to the power module slot
correctly and connect the power cord to the power module.
However, if the input LED is on but the output LED is off, this case may be caused by output short-circuit,
output over-current, output over-voltage, or over-temperature. To solve such cases, take the following
actions:
1) For the PSR750-A power module, switch off the power module and disconnect the power cord, and
then reconnect the power cord and switch on the power module to check whether the power
module can work properly.
2) For the PSR750-D power module, disconnect the power cord from the external power supply
system and the power module, then reconnect the power cord with the power module and then the
external power supply system, and switch on the power module to check whether the power
module can work properly.
3) If the above action does not work, the case may be caused by over-temperature. Take actions to
cool down the power module, and then it can work properly.

2 Installing and Removing the Power Module
This chapter describes how to install and remove the power module and the power cord. To prevent
damage to the device and personal injury, follow the power-on and power-off procedures illustrated in
the following figures respectively.
Figure 2-1 Power-on procedure for PSR750-A
Figure 2-2 Power-off procedure for PSR750-A
Figure 2-3 Power-on procedure for PSR750-D
Figure 2-4 Power-off procedure for PSR750-D
Precautions
z Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and ensure a good skin contact before installing or removing
the power module.
z Before installing the power module, make sure that the operating voltage provided by the external
power supply system is consistent with that marked on the power module, and the output voltage of
the power module is consistent with the powered device, thus to prevent damage to the power
module and powered device.
z Do not touch any naked wire or terminal. Doing so may result in a personal injury.
z Never place the power module in wet locations and prevent fluid from leaking into the power
module.
z Do not often open the shell of the power module to prevent damage to the power module. If a
failure occurs on the internal wires or units, contact the technical stuff to troubleshoot the problem.
Tools
You need to prepare the following tools for installation and removal:
z flat-blade screwdriver
z Phillips screwdriver

Installing and Removing the Power Module
The installation/removal procedure of the PSR750-A and PSR750-D is similar. This manual takes the
PSR750-A as an example to introduce the installation and removal of the power module.
Before installation and removal, make sure that the power module is switched off and no power cord is
connected to the power module.
Installing the Power Module
1) Put on an ESD-preventive wrist strap, make sure that the wrist strap has a good skin contact and is
well grounded.
2) Take the power module from the package and check that the input mode of the power module is as
required.
3) Face the slot and plug in the power module.
4) Insert the power module with the upside up. Grasp the handle of the module with one hand and
hold the module bottom with the other, and then slide the module slowly along the guide rails into
the slot (see callout 1 in
Figure 2-5).
5) Fasten the captive screws on the power module clockwise with a Philips screwdriver until the
power module is fixed into the chassis (see callout 2 in
Figure 2-5).
Figure 2-5 Install a power module
2-3
z If the slot has a filler panel, remove it before inserting the power module.
z Remove the filler module before installing the power module on an S5800-60C-PWR switch. For
installation details, refer to the related installation manual.
z To prevent damage to the power module or the connector in the powered device, insert the power
module gently. If you encounter a hard resistance while inserting the power module, pull out the
power module and then insert it again.
z If the captive screw cannot be tightly fixed, check the installation of the power module.
Removing the Power Module
1) Put on an ESD-preventive wrist strap, make sure that the wrist strap has a good skin contact and is
well grounded.
2) Switch off the power module, disconnect the power cord from the power module and external
power supply system, and remove the power cord.
3) Face the power module to be removed from the powered device.
4) Loosen the captive screws of the power module anti-clockwise with a Philips screwdriver until the
captive screw falls off the powered device.
5) Grasp the handle of the module with one hand and pull it out a little, and then hold the module
bottom with the other, and then pull the module slowly along the guide rails out of the slot.
z To better protect the power module, put the power module into an antistatic bag after removal.
z Because the PSR750-D has no power on/off switch, the on/off switch operations are skipped.
Connecting the Power Cord
After you insert the power module into the device, you can connect the power cord. For an AC-powered
device, use an AC power cord to connect the external power supply system. For a DC-powered device,
use a DC power cord to connect the external power supply system.
Connecting AC Power Cord
Follow these steps to install the power cord for PSR750-A:
1) Switch off the AC power module, that is, turn the power switch of the module to the “O” position
(see
Figure 2-6).
2) Pull the bail latch upwards (see
Figure 2-6).
3) Connect one end of the AC power cord shipped with the device to the AC receptacle on the module
(see callout 1 in
Figure 2-7).
4) Pull the bail latch to the down to secure the plug to the AC receptacle (see callout 2 in
Figure 2-7).
5) Connect the other end of the AC power cord to the external power supply system.
2-4
Figure 2-6 Connect an AC power cord I
Figure 2-7 Connect an AC power cord II
The PSR750-A is equipped with two built-in fans for heat dissipation. The fans rotate at a low speed
after the power cord is connected (AC OK is on) but with the power module in the off state. When you
switch on the power module, the fans adjust their rotating speed according to the module’s temperature.
Connecting DC Power Cord
To ensure normal PoE power supply to the S5800-60C-PWR using the PSR750-D, you need to select
the RPS1000-A3 of H3C that provides a voltage range from –52V to –55V. Follow these steps to
connect the PSR750-D to the RPS1000-A3:
1) Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the captive screws and remove the washer of the PSR750-D,
as shown in
Figure 2-8.
2) Insert the captive screws through the washers and OT terminals of the RPS power cords, as shown
in callout 1 in
Figure 2-9. Pay attention to the positive (+) and negative (-) marks on the power cords
to avoid connection mistakes.
3) Use the Phillips screwdriver to fix the RPS power cords to the PSR750-D, and ensure a good
contact between the OT terminals and the PSR750-D, as shown in callout 2 in
Figure 2-9.
2-5
4) Connect the RPS connectors of the RPS power cords to the outputs OUTPUT1 and OUTPUT2 of
RPS1000-A3 respectively, as shown in callout 3 in
Figure 2-9.
5) Use a flat-head screwdriver to fix the RPS connectors to the RPS1000-A3.
