Controlling Other
Devices
In order to control other devices with
your U-Verse TV Remote Control, you
need to tell the remote control what
types of devices you have. Section 1
guides you through the steps need-
ed to do this. When you complete
Section 1, the volume and channels
will always work on the U-verse TV
Receiver no matter what mode you
are in. If you want to change this or
allow the POWER key to affect multi-
ple devices then you can also follow
the steps in Section 2. If you’d like
to reset any of the settings then you
can go to Sections 3 and 4.
1. Programming the
remote to control other
devices
To use the U-verse TV remote con-
trol for your other devices, you will
need to program one or more of the
TV, DVD or AUX buttons at the top of
the remote control. There are two
ways to do this. If your device is list-
ed in the Manufacture Code List at
the end of this Manual, you can use
section A. If your device is not listed,
you will need to use section B.
Note:
The AUX button may be programmed
to operate a VCR, Home Theater In A
Box (HTIB), Receiver or Amplifier.
A. Manually
Use the following steps to program
the TV, DVD or AUX mode keys:
1. Power on the device you want to
program
2. Locate the 4-digit set-up code
for the device you want to pro-
gram from the Manufacture
Code List in this manual. If your
device is not listed you will need
to use section B on “Using the
Automatic Search”. If there are
multiple codes listed for your
device, you may need to repeat
steps 2 through 7 to find the cor-
rect one.
3. Press and hold the appropriate
mode key you want to assign to
this device (TV, DVD or AUX) on
the remote control
4. While holding the mode key,
press the OK key
5. Release both the mode key and
the OK key
– All the mode keys should flash
twice
– You’ll now have 10 seconds to
start step 6
6. Enter the appropriate 4-digit set-
up code for your device (from
the Manufacture Code List) by
pressing the number keys (0-9)
on the remote control
If the mode key flashes three
times, then a correct code has
been entered.
If the mode key gives a long
flash, then an invalid code has
been entered. Start over at step
3.
– If all the mode keys give a long
flash, then the remote control
has timed-out. Start over at step
3
7. Point the remote control at the
programmed device and press
the power key once
– The device should turn off
If it does not turn off, repeat
steps 2 through 6 trying each
code for your brand until you
find the correct code
8. Repeat steps 1 through 7 to pro-
gram another device.
Note: If you are interrupted while you
are programming, the remote con-
trol may time-out before you com-
plete the code set-up and you will
need to start over. This is indicated
by a red flash of the mode keys.
Now that your devices are pro-
grammed, you can press the appro-
priate mode key on the remote con-
trol to work with the selected device.
To use the remote control for your
U-verse TV Receiver again, press the
AT&T mode key.
Combination Devices Note: If you
have an integrated or combination
unit, such as a TV/DVD unit, each
component of the unit needs to be
programmed separately. In the Man-
ufacture Code List for these devices
there will be codes for all compo-
nents of the combination unit. They
can be distinguished as follows:
- TV codes start with a “1”
- DVD codes start with a “2”
- AUX codes start with a “3”
For some combination devices, the
original remote control may be re-
quired to switch between the com-
ponents.
B. Using the Automatic
Search
You can search the remote control
memory for your 4 digit manufacture
device code. You will need to use
this function if the code for your de-
vice is not listed in the Manufacture
Code List.
1. Turn on the device you wish to
program
2. Point the remote control at the
device
3. Press and hold the appropriate
mode key you want to assign to
this device (TV, DVD or AUX) on
the remote control

remote control
10. Check to make sure the code
works by pressing the mode key,
then the power button, to turn
the device back on. If this does
not work, start again at step 2.
11. Now that your devices are pro-
grammed, you can press the
appropriate mode key on the
remote control to work with
the selected device. To use the
remote control for your AT&T U-
verse TV Receiver again, press
the AT&T mode key.
Note:
– If any other key is pressed except
PLAY, ENTER, POWER, EXIT, REW, FF,
