Getting started
This guide explains how to install the following software using the SMART Learning Suite Installer:
l SMARTNoteboo 16.2 collaborative learning software
l SMARTNotebook Math Tools software
l SMART Product Drivers 12.6
l SMARTInk 4.2
This guide is intended for teachers, IT administrators and others who are responsible for installing
software on teachers computers.
To use this guide, you must have access to the installation files through the installation DVD or the
Internet.
IMPORTANT
If SMART Response is currently installed, updating to Notebook 16.2 will replace SMART
Response with the new SMART response 2 assessment tool. Please review the details to ensure
it will not disrupt current teacher work flows. Existing assessment data may need to be backed
up. For more information see the SMART response 2 FAQs .
Computer requirements
NOTE
Operating systems and other third-party software released after this SMART software might not
be supported.
Before you install the software, ensure your teachers computers meet the minimum requirements:

IMPORTANT
l Some features require access to specific web sites. You might need to white list those web
sites if your network restricts outbound Internet access.
l All prerequisite third-party software is built into the EXE file and is automatically installed in
the correct order if you deploy the EXE file.
l The required AdobeFlash Player, Microsoft.NET Framework and MicrosoftVisual Studio
Tools 2010 for Office prerequisites will be installed automatically when you run the EXE file.
l Adobe Flash Player ActiveX control is already included with Windows 8 and later,
installation is only required on Windows 7.

Installing the software
You can install SMART Learning Suite using the complete installer or the web-based installer. The
following table explains the differences between the two installers.

Using the complete installer
You can start the complete installer by downloading the complete installer from the SMART
website.
To download and start the complete installer from the website
1. Go to https://education.smarttech.com/en/products/notebook/download#students.
2. If you have a product key, enter it into the Enter your key field.
or
If you’re looking for an older version of Notebook select Looking for an older version of
Notebook or know what software you need?.
3. Complete steps 2-4 on the web page.
IMPORTANT
Make sure to select USB Installer in Step 4 - Select install package.
4. Click DOWNLOAD.
5. Save the file to a temporary location.

6. Browse to and double-click the file.
The SMART Learning Suite Installation Wizard appears.
NOTES
l If you install the software without a valid Product Key you’ll receive a 45-day trial.
l A window for SMART Learning Suite maintenance program appears with the message:
This version of SMART Notebook software requires a paid subscription to SMART Learning
Suite. Continue the installation for a 45-day trial.
l For further information see, the SMART Learning Suite webpage.
To install the software using the complete installer
1. Start the complete installer as described in the previous procedure.
The SMART Learning Suite 16.2 Installer window appears.
NOTES
o
SMART recommends installing the Standard Installation/Upgrade, it will install SMART
Notebook, SMART lab, SMART response 2, SMART Ink, and SMART Product Drivers.
o
The Standard Installation or Upgrade will also install Gallery Essentials and Lesson
Activity Toolkit.
o
If you would like to customize the installation or upgrade of SMART software, select
Customize.
2. Select the terms of use link.
The License Agreement window appears.
3. Review the terms in software license agreement, and click Close.
4. If you accept the terms, select I have read the accept the terms of use check box.
5. Click Next.
6. The SMART Notebook Activation window appears with selections (select the option that
applies to your settings):

Start Trial/Using existing license
Or
o
Enter Key
7. Click Next.

8. The Ready to Install the Program window appears, click Install.
9. The installation is complete, click Finish.
Using the web-based installer
You can download the web-based installer from the SMART website, and then double-click the
downloaded file to begin the installation.
To download and start the web-based installer
1. Go to https://education.smarttech.com/en/products/notebook/download#students.
2. If you have a product key, enter it into the Enter your key field.

Uninstalling the software
You can uninstall SMART Learning Suite 16.2 from individual computers using the SMART
Uninstaller user interface.
To uninstall SMART Learning Suite 16.2 using the SMART Uninstaller user interface
1. In Windows 7 operating system, select Start > AllPrograms > SMARTTechnologies > SMART
Tools > SMART Uninstaller.
OR
In Windows 8.1 operating system, go to the Apps screen and then scroll to and select
SMARTTechnologies > SMARTUninstaller.

In Windows 10 operating system, select Start > All apps, and then scroll to and select
SMARTTechnologies> SMARTUninstaller.
2. PressNext.
3. Select the check boxes of the SMART software and supporting packages that you want to
uninstall, and then pressNext.
NOTES
o
Some SMART software is dependent on other SMART software. If you select this
software, SMART Uninstaller automatically selects the software on which it depends.
o
SMART Uninstaller automatically uninstalls any supporting packages that are no longer
being used.
o
If you choose to uninstall all SMART software, SMART Uninstaller automatically
uninstalls all supporting packages, including itself.
TIPS
o
To select all software and supporting packages, pressSelect All.
o
To clear the selection of all software and supporting packages, pressClear All.
4. PressUninstall.
SMART Uninstaller uninstalls the selected software and supporting packages.
5. PressFinish.
