INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
Bombardier Digipulse Dual Wire Feeders
(this kit is designed for the Bombardier Digipulse Dual Feeder only)
INSTALLATION (See Figure 1.)
TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL ELECTRIC SHOCK, BE
SURE FEEDER CONTROL CABLE IS DISCON-
NECTED FROM THE POWER SOURCE BEFORE
WORKING INSIDE WIRE FEEDER.
1. Make sure control cable is disconnected from the
Power Source or Digipulse Dual Wire Feeder.
2. Remove the cover of the Digipulse Dual control
box.
3. Remove the plastic knock-out plug in the center of
the Digipulse feeder front panel.
4. Position the Crater label (P/N 954754 supplied in
kit) over the hole in the control front panel and press
firmly in place.
5. Insert and mount the supplied crater toggle switch
assembly in the front panel center hole using the
hardware provided. Rotate the switch so that the
white wire is on top (12 oclock) position and the
blue wire at the bottom (6 oclock) position. See
Figure #1 on reverse side.
6. Remove plug P6 from the MPU PC board and in-
sert the white wire connector into plug terminal po-
sition #14 (P6-14) . The wire connector will lock
into position when inserted properly.
7. Insert the blue wire connector into terminal posi-
tion #2 (P6-2) of plug P6. The wire connector will
lock into position when inserted properly.
8. Connect the yellow wire with the spade connector
to the terminal strip (T1-1) in the Digipulse Dual
control box at position #1 (common).
9. Reconnect the P6 plug to the MPU PC board.
10. Remove EPROM 18090 from the MPU PC board
and replace it with EPROM 99513606 supplied with
the kit. EPROMs are static sensitive so handle with
care. Note the orientation of the notched end of
the EPROM. Notch should be facing left.
11. Replace wire feeder control cover and connect the
control cable to Power Source.
OPERATION
The Crater Fill feature allows the operator to preset a
special welding wire feed speed (IPM), arc length
(VOLTS) and time (TIMES) to control the shape and
size of the weld crater upon termination of the welding
process.
Each weld schedule can be preset with a unique crater
fill IPM and VOLTS condition but only one crater fill
TIME can be programmed for each torch. The
Digipulse Dual feeder can have 16 unique crater fill
conditions and two unique crater fill times.
Note
When a crater TIME is programmed, the double click
method of changing torch schedules by using the weld-
ing torch trigger is automatically disabled for that torch.
Programming a Crater Condition
1. Momentarily depress the trigger of the torch to be
programmed. Be sure the desired schedule num-
ber is assigned to that torch. Schedules 1 - 4 are
Pulse arc welding schedules and schedules 5 - 8
are Short Circuiting/Spray arc welding schedules.
2. Hold the Crater toggle switch in the TIMES posi-
tion. The window corresponding to the torch be-
ing used will illuminate. Simultaneously enter the
desired crater time (in seconds) using the INC/DEC
switch under the illuminated window. A zero (0)
will disable the crater fill feature. For example, if
the left torch trigger was depressed (see step #1)
then the IPM window will illuminate.
3. Hold the Crater toggle switch in the CONDITIONS
position and simultaneously enter the crater IPM
and VOLTS settings desired using the INC/DEC
toggle switches beneath their respective window.
4. During welding the crater fill schedule will be en-
abled when the operator releases the torch trig-
ger. The crater timer will start and the arc will ex-
tinguish automatically when the preset crater time
has timed out.
Be sure this information reaches the operator.
