2.) Introduction
The SEM Model 0202 OMD is designed for the destruction of optical media. The SEM 0202 OMD optical media shredder
is NSA listed for destruction of CDs. Additionally, it may also be used for non-classified destruction of DVDs, plastic cards,
with magnetically stored information, i.e. credit cards, hotel passes, security passes, and driverslicenses.
The 0202 features a touch screen LCD Interface for ease of use and is also capable of running on 120V or 220V power at
50 or 60Hz right out of the box without any alterations required by the user. Simply plug in the appropriate power cord

3.) Operation
3.1 Before Powering
Before using the unit, always ensure the corrugated waste bin and a waste
bin bag are installed in the unit.
Attach the appropriate power cord to the receptacle at the rear of the unit.
Attach the other end to normal line voltage.
The initial SEM splash screen will appear for several seconds. It shows the
unit name and model number.
3.2 Running The Unit
The main user screen will appear once the unit has powered on. On the display will be a FORWARD and a REVERSE
button (shown below). The LCD display interface is a touch screen display that allows the user to control the unit via
finger touches and receive feedback via several symbols and indicators.
Note: Never operate the display using sharp objects, i.e. pens, pencils, paper clips, etc. or permanent damage may
occur.

The unit may be operated in two ways. The user may simply insert media into the slot. The unit is equipped with a photo
sensor for detection of the media and will activate automatically and shutoff after several seconds. Note that the single
green arrow indicates the direction of shredding while the unit is running.
The user may also choose to activate the unit manually. Pressing the FORWARD button will turn the unit on for three
seconds. If the FORWARD button is pressed for more than three seconds, the unit will remain activated continuously for
60 seconds. To stop the unit at any time, press the STOP button which now appears in place of the FORWARD button.
The single green arrow illuminates to indicate shredding direction.
3.3 Low Power Mode
If the unit is not used and the LCD interface display is untouched for more than 60 seconds, the unit will go into low
power mode and the display will revert to the SEM splash screen with a dimmed screen. After several minutes, the
screen will turn fully black. In either mode, the unit may be put back into full power mode by simply pressing anywhere
on the display.

4.) Troubleshooting
4.1 Jams
In the event of a jam, the unit will automatically go into reverse mode
and then forward again for several seconds to try to clear the jam. The
symbols to the right are the indicators for a JAM and AUTO clearing of
the jam.
If the jam cannot be automatically cleared, the user may manually reverse the
unit. Pressing the REVERSE button will make the unit run in the reverse direction
for about 1.5 seconds. The single direction indicator arrow now shows the
reverse direction.
If the unit is still jamming after attempting a manual reverse, contact SEM
customer support.
4.2 Status Indicators
Waste Bin:
If the unit becomes full of waste, the WASTE BIN indicator will appear. The waste
bin bag should now be removed and a new bag installed.
Open Door:
Anytime the door is opened, the unit will deactivate if running and the DOOR
OPEN symbol will appear. The unit will not run when this symbol is present.
4.3 Service Indicators
The unit is equipped with a thermal switch for safety to ensure that the motor does not overheat.
When the unit is run continuously for an hour or more, the switch will engage and the unit will not
run until the temperature has dropped to acceptable levels. If this occurs, the over temperature
HOT indicator will appear and the user must wait for it to automatically reset.
If the unit encounters other errors or an unsafe condition is detected, the SERVICE NEEDED symbol
is displayed. If this occurs, please contact SEM service. Please note the number displayed along with
the SERVICE NEEDED symbol as it will help identify the cause of the fault.

5.) Service
After 500 optical discs or plastic cards have been run through
the unit, the cutting heads will need to be re-lubricated. The OIL
indicator will appear to alert the user to do so. The OIL indicator
is only an alert and can be reset simply by pressing the OIL
symbol for 2-3 seconds. If the OIL indicator is not reset, it will
turn red after several more runs.
When the OIL indicator appears, the user should insert 3-4 oil sheets. These will need to be folded, as shown.
