1. Important information on installing the CD changer in the E53
Only for use in the BMW dealer organisation.
The CD changer may only be installed by a specialist workshop that has the required special
tools and manuals (servicing, repair, diagnostics, etc.).
All the work is shown for the left-hand side of the car and must be repeated on the
right-hand side.
In cars with an on-board monitor radio the control cable is only installed in the boot.
In cars with a BMW Professional hi-fi system DSP amplifier only the coaxial cable for the
Professional hi-fi system DSP amplifier/CD change must be installed in the boot.
Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car.
Additional cables/leads that you install must be secured with cable ties.
If the specified PIN chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals
must be used.

6. To install audio module holder
(only required for cars without an audio module holder)

Place the audio amplifier holder (10) on the stud
bolt M6 (30) and secure it with two hexagonal nuts
M6 (18). Screw the hexagonal screw M6x10 (15)
into the thread M6 (31) in the rear closing panel.

Place two speed nuts M5 (14) on to the audio
amplifier holder (10).
0
Insert the holder for the boot at the rear left (7) and
secure it with two hexagonal screws M5x14 (13)
and one hexagonal screw M6x10 (15).

Place two speed nuts M5 (14) into the hole in the
holder for the boot at the rear left (7).

6. To install audio module holder (only required for cars without an audio module holder)

On cars with a Professional hi-fi system DSP
amplifier, transceiver (permanent telephone) or
basic interface telephone (mobile), undo the two
hexagonal nuts M6 (18).
Insert the holder for the boot at the front left (9) and
secure it with the two existing hexagonal nuts M6
(18), two hexagonal screws M5x14 (13) and one
hexagonal screw M6x10 (15).

Place a speed nut M5 (14) on to the audio amplifier
holder (10), one speed nut M5 (14) on to the holder
for the boot at the rear left (7) and two speed nuts
M5 (14) on to the holder for the boot at the front left
(9).

Disconnect the white 12-pin plug connector X322.
Disconnect the existing socket contact from slot
PIN4, white/grey/yellow cable on the white 12-pin
socket casing X322B.
Connect branch A1, 1-pin socket contact, white/
grey/yellow cable on the power supply cable A to
the white 12-pin socket casing X322B in slot
PIN4.
Connect the supplied 1-pin black socket casing to
the disconnected socket contact and connect it to
branch A1, black 1-pin plug casing, white/grey/
yellow cable.

Disconnect the existing socket contact from slot
PIN1, red/green cable on the white 12-pin socket
casing X322B. Connect branch A2, 1-pin socket
contact, red/green cable on the power supply
cable A to the white 12-pin socket casing X322 in
slot PIN1.
Connect the supplied 1-pin black socket casing
on to the disconnected socket contact and
connect it to branch A2, black 1-pin plug casing,
red/green cable. Remove the left tail light.

Screw branch A3, cable eyelet, 6 mm in diameter,
brown cable on the power supply cable A, to earth
post X13016 in the boot at the rear left on the side
panel.
Lay branch A4, black 3-pin socket casing on the
power supply cable A, to the installation location of
the CD changer.

The installation of the control cable B for
the CD changer is only required, if the black
6-pin socket casing X18729 on the control
cable for the CD changer is not tied back
near the connection plug X322 on the audio
wiring harness.

Lay control cable B along the audio wiring harness
as follows.
Connect branch B1, silver 10-pin socket casing on
the control cable B to the black radio connection
plug in the centre console.
Lay control cable B from the radio (30) along the
centre console under the carpet parallel to the
audio wiring harness to the rear left door sill and
along the side panel to the installation site of the
CD changer (1).

Connect branch B1, silver 12-pin socket casing on
the control cable B to the black 17-pin socket
casing X18126 on the radio connection plug and
secure it with a retaining clip (19).
Connect socket casing X18126 to the radio (30).
0
Remove the three transport guard screws (30)
from the CD changer (1) and seal the apertures
with the adhesive discs supplied (adhesive discs
are supplied with the CD changer).
Remove the two covers (31) and set the
adjustment mechanism (32) with a flat screwdriver
to H (horizontal installation) and then re-affix both
covers (31).

Secure both CD changer holders (8) to the CD
changer (1) with four fillister head Philips screws
(12).

Connect branch A4, black 3-pin socket casing on
the power supply cable A or the standard power
supply plug X18180 to the plug casing on the
power supply connector (30) on the CD changer
(1).
Connect branch B2, black 6-pin socket casing on
the control cable B or the standard plug X18729 to
the plug casing (31) on the CD changer (1).

Insert the connected CD changer (1) with the fitted
retaining brackets into the shaft opening and
secure it with four hexagonal screws M5x14 (13).

harness.

Disconnect the white 12-pin plug connector X322.
Disconnect the existing socket contact from slot
PIN4, white/grey/yellow cable on the white 12-pin
socket casing X322B.
Connect branch A1, 1-pin socket contact, white/
grey/yellow cable on the power supply cable A to
the white 12-pin socket casing X322B in slot
PIN4.
Connect the supplied 1-pin black socket casing to
the disconnected socket contact and connect it to
branch A1, black 1-pin plug casing, white/grey/
yellow cable.

Disconnect the existing socket contact from slot
PIN1, red/green cable on the white 12-pin socket
casing X322B. Connect branch A2, 1-pin socket
contact, red/green cable on the power supply
cable A to the white 12-pin socket casing X322 in
slot PIN1.
Connect the supplied 1-pin black socket casing
on to the disconnected socket contact and
connect it to branch A2, black 1-pin plug casing,
red/green cable. Remove the left tail light.

post X13016 in the boot at the rear left on the side
panel.
Lay branch A4, black 3-pin socket casing on the
power supply cable A, to the installation location of

Push the shrink hose (16) over branch E2, silver 10-pin plug casing on adapter cable E, and
connect branch B1, silver 10-pin socket casing on control cable B to it.
As you connect B1 to E2 ensure that it is correctly positioned, see figure.
All sharp metal and plastic detents are to be removed from plug connection B1 and E2 using
an angle cutter.
There must be no sharp edges or corners on plug connection B1 and E2.
Push the shrink hose (16) over the plug connection B1 and E2 and shrink it using a hot air
blower.

The installation of the control cable B for
the CD changer is only required, if the black
6-pin socket casing X18729 on the control
cable for the CD changer is not tied back
near the connection plug X322 on the audio
wiring harness.
0
Lay adapter cable E with control cable B along the
audio wiring harness as follows.
Connect branch E1, white 12-pin socket casing on
adapter cable E, to the new generation radio
connection plug in the centre console.
Lay control cable B from the radio (30) along the
centre console under the carpet parallel to the
audio wiring harness to the rear left door sill and
along the side panel to the installation site of the
CD changer (1).

Connect the white 12-pin socket casing E1 on
adapter cable E to the new generation radio
connection plug (30).
Connect the new generation radio connection
plug (30) and install the radio.

Remove the three transport guard screws (30)
from the CD changer (1) and seal the apertures
with the adhesive discs supplied (adhesive discs
are supplied with the CD changer).
Remove the two covers (31) and set the
adjustment mechanism (32) with a flat screwdriver
to H (horizontal installation) and then re-affix both
covers (31).

Disconnect the white 12-pin plug connector X322.
Disconnect the existing socket contact from slot
PIN4, white/grey/yellow cable on the white 12-pin
socket casing X322B.
Connect branch A1, 1-pin socket contact, white/
grey/yellow cable on the power supply cable A to
the white 12-pin socket casing X322B in slot
PIN4.
Connect the supplied 1-pin black socket casing to
the disconnected socket contact and connect it to
branch A1, black 1-pin plug casing, white/grey/
yellow cable.

Disconnect the existing socket contact from slot
PIN1, red/green cable on the white 12-pin socket
casing X322B. Connect branch A2, 1-pin socket
contact, red/green cable on the power supply
cable A to the white 12-pin socket casing X322 in
slot PIN1.
Connect the supplied 1-pin black socket casing
on to the disconnected socket contact and
connect it to branch A2, black 1-pin plug casing,
red/green cable. Remove the left tail light.

Screw branch A3, cable eyelet, 6 mm in diameter,
brown cable on the power supply cable A, to earth
post X13016 in the boot at the rear left on the side
panel.
Lay branch A4, black 3-pin socket casing on the
power supply cable A, to the installation location of
the CD changer.

9. To install the CD changer (cars with an on-board monitor and without a DSP amplier only)

Push the shrink hose (16) over branch E2, silver 10-pin plug casing on adapter cable E, and
connect branch C1, silver 10-pin socket casing on control cable C to it.
As you connect C1 to E2 ensure that it is correctly positioned, see figure.
All sharp metal and plastic detents are to be removed from plug connection C1 and E2 using
an angle cutter.
There must be no sharp edges or corners on plug connection C1 and E2.
Push the shrink hose (16) over the plug connection C1 and E2 and shrink it using a hot air
blower.

The installation of the control cable C for
the CD changer is only required, if the black
6-pin socket casing X18729 on the control
cable for the CD changer is not tied back
near the connection plug X322 on the audio
wiring harness.

Install control cable C as follows:
Connect branch C1, silver 10-pin socket casing
on the control cable C to the black new generation
radio connection plug (30) on the on-board
monitor (31).
Lay control cable C from the on-board monitor (31)
along the audio wiring harness in the boot to the
installation site of the CD changer (1).
