No Picture or Sound
1. Verify that the cable receiver and TV are turned on (power lights are
illuminated).
If a wall switch controls power to the power source, make sure the wall
switch is in the ON position.
If the cable receiver or TV is connected to a surge protector, make sure
the surge protector is turned on.
Make sure the power cable is connected securely to the cable receiver
and to the power source.
2. Make sure that all cables are connected properly and securely, and that no
cables are damaged.
3. Use the volume up/down controls on the TV set to make sure the volume is
not down on muted.
4. Press the TV button once on the remote control and make sure the TV is tuned
to the correct channel. In most cases, this is channel 4. If there is still no
picture, try channel 3.

the video source or input on the TV. Press the TV button once on the remote
control and then press the VIDEO SOURCE (may say INPUT) button to select
another video input souce.
Note: If you are unable to change the video input source with the Cox remote
control, use your TV’s remote control. If necessary, refer to your TV owner’s
manual for instructions on changing the input source. If you still don't see a

Remote Control Does Not Work
1. Make sure you are pointing the remote control at the cable receiver and not
at the TV.
2. Press the POWER button on the cable receiver or TV front panel instead of the
remote control. If the cable receiver or TV turns on, replace the batteries in the
remote control.

User Manual that came in your Cox Universal Welcome Kit.
DVR Makes Humming Noise
This is normal. The DVR includes an internal hard drive and a fan for cooling.
During normal operation, the DVR emits a low humming noise, similar to a
personal computer. The noise varies in volume when the speed of the fan adjusts
to temperature changes around the DVR. The hard drive stays on even when the
DVR is tuned off.
