Cleaning and Maintenance Instructions for Stainless Steel
Material Description: Stainless steel is extremely durable, and maintenance is simple and inexpensive.
Proper care, particularly under corrosive conditions, is essential. Always start with the simplest solution and
work your way toward the more complicated.
Routine cleaning: Daily or as often as needed use a solution of warm water and soap, detergent, or
ammonia. Apply the cleaning solution per the manufactures instructions and always use a soft cloth or
sponge to avoid damaging the finish.
Stubborn Stains: To remove stains from stainless steel use a stainless steel cleaner and polish such as Ball
®
stainless steel cleaner or a soft abrasive. Always follow the manufactures instructions and apply in the same
direction as the polish lines.
IMPORTANT: NEVER USE ORDINARY STEEL WOOL OR STEEL BRUSHES ON
STAINLESS STEEL. ALWAYS USE STAINLESS STEEL WOOL OR
STAINLESS STEEL BRUSHES.
Special Situations for Material
Fingerprints and Smears: To remove fingerprints or smears use a high quality stainless steel cleaner and
polish in accordance with the manufactures instructions. Many of these products leave a protective coating
the helps prevent future smears and fingerprints.
Grease and Oil : To remove grease and oil use a quality commercial detergent or caustic cleaner. Apply in
accordance to the manufactures instructions and in the direction of the polish lines.
Precautions: Avoid prolonged contact with chlorides (bleaches, salts), bromides (sanitizing agents),
thiocyanates (pesticides, photography chemicals, and some foods), and iodides on stainless steel equipment,
especially if acid conditions exist.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT PERMIT SALTY SOLUTIONS TO EVAPORATE AND DRY ON
STAINLESS STEEL.
The appearance of rust streaks on stainless steel leads to the belief that the stainless steel is rusting. Look for the
actual source of the rust in some iron or steel particles which may be touching, but not actually a part of the
stainless steel structure.
NOTE: Strongly acidic or caustic cleaners may attack the steel causing a reddish film to appear. The use of
these cleaners should be avoided.
Brand Names: Use of brand names is intended only to indicate a type of cleaner. This does not constitute an
endorsement, nor does the omission of any brand name cleaner imply its inadequacy. Many products named
are regional in distribution, and can be found in local supermarkets, department and hardware stores, or
through your cleaning service. It is emphasized that all products should be used in strict accordance with
package instructions.
Valve Box Troubleshooting
CAUTION: To avoid injury from electric shock, turn off water supplies to unit
before troubleshooting.
Problem: The sprayhead fails to shut off and drips.
Cause: There is debris trapped between the diaphragm and the valve seat.
Solution: Clean the diaphragm.
1. Remove the valve box cover and then remove the four screws holding the diaphragm in place.
2. Make note of the orientation of the diaphragm (the flat side on the center plastic part must be
facing the inlet) and remove the diaphragm.
3. Rinse the diaphragm in clean water, replace the diaphragm (in the proper orientation) and secure
with the screws.
4. Replace the valve box cover.
Problem: An individual operating station fails to turn on.
Cause: A failed coil for the valve, or loose electrical connection to the terminal.
Solution: Replace the valve box.
1. Disconnect the inlet and outlet hose connections.
2. Remove the sensor “eyes” from the sprayhead taking care to keep dirt/debris and water out of the
sprayhead sensor windows.
3. Pry the valve box up to loosen from the hook-and-loop pad.
4. Replace the valve box and reassemble the valve box in reverse order.

Problem: Battery life is only about 2 weeks.
Cause: 1 battery has been installed backwards.
Solution: Replace all 6 batteries in the valve box while observing proper polarity.
Problem: Water is being supplied to the valve box, but the sensor does not turn on the
water.
Cause: Dead batteries. Even "new" batteries from the store may be at the end of their
shelf life.
Solution: Replace all 6 batteries with new tested batteries.
Sprayhead Flow is Restricted
Problem: Flow is restricted.
Cause: There is debris trapped in the strainers in supply line or valve box.
Solution: Remove debris.
Supply Line Strainers
1. Turn off the stop(s) for the supply inlet(s).
2. Unscrew the large end of the braided hose and remove the strainer (see Parts Illustration, on page
3).
3. Flush the strainer clean with water and reinstall the strainer into the large end of the braided
hose.
4. Refasten the hose to the inlet supply.
Valve Box Strainers
1. Turn off the stop(s) for the supply inlet(s).
2. Unscrew the end of the braided hose from the "IN" side and remove the strainer (see Figure 8a
on page 10).
3. Flush the strainer clean with water and reinstall the strainer.
4. Refasten the hose to the valve box inlet supply.
Water Does not Shut Off
Problem: Water continues to flow after sensor is deactivated.
Cause: Batteries removed while sensor was activated leaving motor driven valve in the
open position.
Solution: Reinstall batteries.
