Application NoteUpgrading Software on the IP2007 IP Phone
Xcelerator IP 07006
This Application Note addresses the process for upgrading the software on the IP2007 IP Phone.
Prior to upgrading the IP2007 phone, you will need to have access to a TFTP (Trivial File
Transfer Protocol) server. We recommend using either solarwinds TFTP server
(www.solarwinds.net) or the open source TFTP server PumpKIN from Kevlar
(www.sharewareplaza.com/PumpKIN-download_32878.html).
Step 1: Setup the TFTP server on the Internet or on the local LAN with the IP2007 phones.
Step 2: Using your web browser, connect to the phone to upgraded by entering the IP address of
the IP2007 into the address bar of the browser. Once connected to the IP2007 phone, enter the
admin name and password. The default admin name is admin (lower case) and the default
password is 1234.
Step 3: Once you have logged into the IP2007 phone, click on the SW Upgrade tab. You will see
the following screen:
2 of 2 July 2007
On the sidebar on the left of the screen, you will see two tabs, Server items and Firmware Files.
Server Items defines:
Type of Server (TFTP)
Server IP Address (IP address of the TFTP server)
Server User Name
File Directory
User Password
Firmware Files defines:
Software (this entry is the IP2007 file name)
Profile (this file is the config file for phone)
Logo
Font
WEB Logo
For Server Items, if you are using the PumpKin or solarwinds TFTP server software you do not
need to fill in the File Directory, Server User Name or User Password.
For Firmware Files, no file entries need to be changed from the default entries.
Step 4: Locate the software file that you will be uploading to the IP2007 phone. The IP2007 file
name will be in the following format:
IP2007_v3.1.9.13.bin.gz
Step 5: Change the name of the IP2007_vX.X.X.bin.gz to app.bin.gz prior to uploading the file.
If the file name is not changed to app.bin.gz the upload will fail.
Step 6: Click on the Update button next to the Software entry. The IP2007 phone display will
show the download process of the software from the TFTP server. Once the download is
complete, the IP2007 will reboot.
Step 7: Once the IP2007 reboot is complete, the IP2007 MUST be defaulted. If there is any data
saved in the IP2007 phone, such as the phone directory, you will need to backup the settings and
after the upgrade upload the phone database back to the IP2007.
To default the phone:
From the IP2007 softkeys
Press Config (Left soft key)
Scroll through the Menu Selection to Admin (entry 16)
Enter the Admin Password (1234)
Press the key in the center of the Navigation Buttons
Scroll to Reset (entry 7) and press the key
You will see the message “Reset to Default?”. Press the key
IP2007 will be configured to the default settings of the phone
To save the user settings to a PC or server location, at the bottom on the SW Upgrade page, click
on Download Settings. Save the download file to the same location as the TFTP server as
IP2007XXX.cfg, where XXX is the extension of the IP 2007 Phone being uploaded.
Restoring the IP2007 settings is accomplished by pressing the Upload button next to the Profile
entry. Make sure the file you are uploading has the same name as the Profile file name.
Upload of the IP2007 software is now complete.
