Fireplaces surfaces get EXTREMELY HOT!
Install only when fi replace is OFF and COLD.
The glass on the front of the fi replace reaches
EXTREMELY HIGH temperatures and can cause severe
burns if touched. Even after the gas is turned off,
replace surfaces remain extremely hot.
Keep children away from an operating fi replace. Closely
supervise children in any room where a fi replace is
operating to prevent contact with glass.

Never operate fireplace without liner panels installed. These
appliances are NOT approved for operation without liner panels.
Do NOT abuse glass doors by striking or slamming shut
Never operate fi replace with glass door assembly removed.
Handle glass door assembly with extreme care.
Replace damaged glass door assembly with approved
replacement assembly only.
Use only media approved for use with these fi replaces
(as applicable). Failure to use approved media may result
in sooting, delayed ignition, or other improper fi replace
operation, and may void the warranty.

GENERAL INFORMATION
This document contains installation instructions for the following
required and optional accessories for Rhapsody® linear direct-
vent gas fi replaces manufactured by INNOVATIVE HEARTH
PRODUCTS (IHP).
Kit descriptions, catalog/model numbers, and contents are listed
on the next page.
Required Accessory Kits
The following accessory kits are REQUIRED for complete fi re-
place installation.
NOTE: Ensure these kits are available before installing the fi re-
place.

To remove optional Bezel:
Grasp lower portion of bezel frame and pull forward to release
from bottom of door.
Swing bezel out slightly and lift up to clear top bracket from
door frame.
If Bezel is installed, barrier frame shown in Figure 2 will not be
present.
Remove glass door assembly
1. Remove the three (3) screws securing the lower edge of the
glass door assembly to the fi replace (Figure 3).
2. Grasp the glass door assembly by the sides, swing the lower
edge out, and then lift up to unhook it from the fi replace.
NOTE: Take care not to damage the glass.
3. Set aside the screws and glass door assembly in a secure
location for later reinstallation.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Complete all steps in the order shown, including the installation
of optional accessories (if applicable).
Remove barrier assembly
1. Remove the barrier assembly by lifting it up to disengage its
notches from tabs and pull directly away from the fi replace.
2. To replace the barrier if damaged, remove the three (3)
screws from the top and bottom and one (1) screw from
each side. Reverse these instructions to install the new
manufacturer's barrier (Figure 2).

Remove baffl e from fi replace fl oor, if installed
1. If unpacking the fi replace for the fi rst time, remove the
baffl e from fi replace fl oor, where it is packed for shipping
(Figure 4).
2. Set aside the baffl e in a secure location for later installation.

Access the control compartment
1. Remove the two (2) screws securing the burner assembly
to the burner brackets. Carefully slide the burner to the left,
to clear the venturi from the orifi ce. Rotate the burner to
release the air shutter adjustment rod from the air shutter
lever (Figure 5). Lift and remove the burner assembly,
and set aside the screws and burner assembly in a secure
location for later reinstallation.

2. Remove the control compartment access door and gasket by
removing the twelve (12) screws securing it. Set aside the
screws, door, and gasket for later reinstallation (Figure 6).

3. Loosen the front left screw of the right burner bracket. Remove
the other three screws, and rotate the bracket clockwise to
uncover the slot in the fi rebox fl oor (Figure 7).
Connect wiring harnesses for blower and optional
rebox panel backlight kit - PF1 System*
NOTE: Use only original, factory-supplied wiring inside fi replace.
1. In the control compartment, use a screwdriver or other
blunt object to carefully break the sealant around the wires.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the wires.
2. Plug the multiwire harness (provided with the fi rebox panel
backlight kit) into the SimFlame™ (fl icker) module port with
the red wires (Figure 8).
NOTE: If not installing the SimFlame module, plug the
multiwire harness directly into the power harness (omit the
components outlined in Figure 8) and skip step 3.

3. Plug the power harness (provided with the fi rebox panel
backlight kit) into the SimFlame Module port with the black
and white wires (Figure 9).

4. Route the lighting wiring up through the access opening, and
slide it into the slot (Figure 9).
5. Plug the power plug end of the power harness into the AUX
OUT port on the fi replace fan control module (Figure 9).
Install refl ector (from optional fi rebox panel backlight kit)
1. Insert the bottom edge of the refl ector (provided with the
rebox backlight kit) into the fi replace fi rst. Then, push the
top edge into rear of fi replace (Figure 10).
NOTE: Lift the refl ector over the tabs on the rear ledge of the
replace
2. Align the large hole in the lower face of the refl ector over the
screw in the fi rebox rear wall.
3. Align the screw holes in the top and bottom edges of refl ector
with the rear most holes in the fi replace ceiling and rear ledge.
Secure the refl ector using six (6) #10-16 x 3/8 hex-head sheet
metal screws provided with the fi rebox panel backlight kit.

Install side panels (from required fi rebox panel kit)
1. Align the screw hole in the top fl ange of the side panel with
the upper hole in the inside wall of the fi replace (Figure 11).
2. Align the screw holes in the bottom fl anges of the side
panel with the holes in the front and rear ledges.
3. Secure each panel with three (3) #10-16 x 3/8 hex-head
sheet metal screws provided with the fi rebox panel kit.

CONNECTION AND ROUTE WIRING FOR OPTIONAL PANEL
BACKLIGHT KIT - SIT PROFLAME II SYSTEM
1. After accessing the control compartment (see Page 3, Figure
6), use a screwdriver or similar object to carefully break the
sealant around the wires, taking care not to nick the wires.
2. Plug in the Multi-wire Harness (provided with the Panel
Backlight Kit) into the SimFlame module port with the red
wires (Figures 8 and 12) and the light wire harness into the
light module harness.
3. Plug in the light wire harness (provided with the Panel
Backlight Kit) into the SimFlame Module port with the black
and white wires.
NOTE: If NOT installing the SimFlame (fl icker) Module,
plug the Multi-Wire Harness directly into the light wire
harness (omitting the components outlined in Figure 8)
4. Route the wiring up through the access opening and slide it
into the slot (Figure 14).
5. Attach the wiring to each lamp assembly as described
below and shown in Figure 17:
a. Route one set of three leads (white/green/black)
through the hole in the front of the bracket.
b. Connect the green wire as shown in Figure 17.
c. Insert the lamp (with green wire attached) into the
bracket until the spring clip is engaged.
d. Attach the white (neutral) and black (hot) wires as
shown in Figure 17.
6. Carefully lay the Panel Backlight lamp assemblies and
wiring on the fi replace fl oor. The lamp assemblies will not
be installed until the back panel is installed (In Step 9,
Figure 18 on Page 6).

1. Insert the bottom edge of the back panel into the fi replace
rst, then position it in front of the previously installed
refl ector (Figure 13).
NOTE: Lift the back panel over the tabs on the rear ledge of
the fi replace.
2. Align the screw holes in the top and bottom edges of the
back panel with the holes in the fi replace ceiling and rear
ledge. Secure using seven (7) #10-16 x 3/8 hex-head sheet
metal screws provided with the fi rebox panel kit.

Determine optional fi rebox panel backlight kit wire
routing method
There are two approved methods for routing the wiring for the
optional fi rebox panel backlight kit.
The preferred method is outlined in the following sections. The
alternate method is included for installations where the fi rebox
rear ledge does not have backlight wire routing holes, and is
described in the Appendix section Route and connect optional
rebox panel backlight kit wiring and install lamp assemblies
as shown on Page 6.
1. Determine whether the fi rebox rear ledge has backlight wire
routing holes (Figure 14).

2. If the fi rebox rear ledge has backlight wire routing
holes, proceed with the instructions in Route and
connect optional fi rebox panel backlight kit wiring
and install lamp assemblies below.
If the rear ledge does not have backlight wire
mounting holes, follow the instructions detailed in
Route and connect optional fi rebox panel backlight
kit wiring and install lamp assemblies as shown on
this page.

1. Remove the three (3) cover plates in the lower front face
of the back panel. Discard the cover plates, but retain the
screws.

2. Route one set of three leads (white/green/black) through each
backlight wire routing hole in the rear ledge (Figure 14).
3. Route one set of three leads (white/green/black) through each
hole in the lower front face of the back panel (Figure 15).
4. With one set of three leads, connect the green wire to a
lamp (Figure 16).
5. Insert the lamp (with green wire attached) into a bracket
until the spring clip is engaged (Figure 16).
6. Connect the white (neutral) wire and black (hot) wire
(Figure 17).

7. Repeat the process in step 4 through step 6 for the
two remaining lamp assemblies.
8. Insert the three (3) lamp assemblies in the exact
orientation shown (Figure 18).

9. Secure the lamp assemblies using the six (6) previously
removed screws from the cover plates (Figure 18).

Door gasket instructions
1. Reinstall the door. If the door does not fully close easily,
the door gasket will need to be dressed. See Figure 21 and
Warning below.

be pressed down. If it has to be pressed down to
close, the gasket in the top of the door should be
dressed so it lays on the glass.

Clean porcelain panels (if applicable)
1. If applicable, use non-ammoniated glass cleaner and a soft
rag to remove fi ngerprints and smudges from porcelain
panels and fl oors.
Install glass door assembly
1. Hold the glass door assembly by the sides, and hook the
top edge to the fi replace. Then swing the bottom edge in
toward the fi replace (Figure 20).
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the glass.
2. Align the screw holes below the door assembly with the
holes in the fi replace, and secure using the (3) provided
screws.
Install baffl e (provided with fi replace)
1. With the baffl e oriented as shown (Figure 19), slide the rear
tabs into the slots in the back panel.
2. While sliding the tabs into the slots, engage the front lip of
the baffl e under the spring clips in the fi rebox ceiling.

Gather and reseal all wiring
1. Gather all wiring and pilot connections together at the end
of the slot, and reseal with high-temperature sealant, such
as Mill-Pac® (not provided) (Figure 7).
2. Reposition the right burner bracket and secure with the
three (3) previously removed screws; tighten the fourth
screw (Figure 7).
3. Replace the control compartment access door and gasket,
and secure with the twelve (12) previously removed screws
(Figure 7).
4. Carefully slide the burner assembly venturi onto the orifi ce.
While placing the burner assembly onto the brackets,
reinstall the air shutter adjustment lever (Figure 5). Secure
the burner assembly with the two (2) previously removed
screws.
Install rear fl oor section (from required fl oor kit)
1. Place lower back edge of rear fl oor section on rear ledge of
replace, behind the tabs (Figure 22).
2. Align outermost front hole on either side of rear fl oor
section with hole in center lower tab in each side panel. Pull
rear fl oor section forward until it butts against the burner,
and secure using fi ve (5) #10-16 x 3/8 hex-head sheet
metal screws provided with the fl oor kit.

Install front fl oor section (from required fl oor kit)
1. Engage the lower front lip of the front fl oor section under
the locking clips attached to the fi replace front ledge, and
then slide it back (Figure 23).
2. Align the notches in the back edge of the front fl oor section over
the holes in the rear fl oor section. Push the front fl oor section
backward until it butts against the burner, and screw the front
oor section as shown in Figure 23.

Install media (from optional media kit)
WARNING
Handle media only when cool. Turn OFF all electricity
to the appliance before installing media. Media gets
very HOT during fi replace use and will remain hot up
to ONE HOUR after the gas supply is turned off.
Any attempt to use media not specifi ed for your fi replace
confi guration will result in incomplete combustion,
sooting, and poor fl ame quality, and will void the
warranty.
Do NOT mound up media, especially on the burner.
If using multiple colors of media, NEVER use more
than fi ve (5) pounds total (approximately) at one time.
Do NOT allow media to get into the pilot hole.
1. If installing a fl oor kit that requires media, place an even
layer of media in the recessed area around the burner (see
bold outlined area in Figure 24; also refer to Figure 1).

Install optional surround
1. Remove clean face trim and install brackets - Remove
the clean face frame shown in Figure 27. Attach surround
mounting brackets to unit (10 screws). See Figure 25.
Surround will be mounted to these brackets (see Figure 26).
2. Attach the surround and secure it using the nine (9) screws
provided with the surround kit (Figure 26).
Finishing with optional Surround and Bezel
1. With unit in framing, secure nailing fl anges to the wall framing.
2. Retrieve and secure heat shield to top front of unit with two
screws.
3. Remove the clean face frame (see Figure 27).
4. Place insulation fl at across the top of the fi replace lengthwise
behind heat shield.
5. Install top, bottom and two (2) side surround support pieces
with screws from step 1 (see Figure 27).
6. Cut top noncombustible fi reboard to size and install fl ush with
top frame pieces (side noncombustible boards not used).
7. Install glass media.
8. Remove top, bottom and two side trim pieces of barrier as-
sembly. Insert remaining barrier assembly into bezel assem-
bly and attach with screws.
9. Reinstall the door.
10. Attach surround to surround support with six (6) screws.
11. Hang barrier assembly on door and snap underneath door.

6 Secure Barrier screen to Bezel assembly with screws
removed in step 2.
7 Install barrier/bezel assembly onto glass door.
4. Hook the bezel upper fl ange to the top edge of the glass
door assembly, and then swing the lower edge of the bezel
toward the door (Figure 29).
5. Gently push the lower edge of the bezel to attach the bezel
lower fl ange to the lower edge of the glass door frame.

Installing Barrier into Bezel

1. Remove barrier assembly that is shipped with unit.
2 Remove barrier screen from assembly by removing 3
screws top and bottom and one on each side.
3 Place barrier screen on Bezel assembly. See Figure 28.

APPENDIX: ALTERNATE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Route and connect optional fi rebox panel backlight kit
wiring and install lamp assemblies
NOTE: These instructions should be used in place of Route and
connect optional fi rebox panel backlight kit wiring and install
lamp assemblies on Page 6, for fi replaces without backlight
wiring kit routing holes as shown in Figure 14 on Page 6.
1. Route one set of three leads (white/green/black) through
the hole in the front of the bracket (Figure 33).

2. Connect the green wire to the lamp (Figure 34).
3. Insert the lamp (with green wire attached) into bracket until
the spring clip is engaged (Figure 34).
4. Connect the white (neutral) wire, and black (hot) wire
(Figure 35).

5. Repeat the process in step 1 through step 4 for the two
remaining lamp assemblies.
6. Carefully lay the fi rebox backlight lamp assemblies and
wiring on the fi replace fl oor. The lamp assemblies will not
be installed until the back panel is installed (in a later step).
7. Remove the three (3) cover plates in the lower front face
of the back panel. Discard the cover plates, but retain the
screws.
8. Insert the three (3) previously assembled lamp assemblies
in the orientation shown (Figure 36).
NOTE: The wires will be routed under the rear fl oor section
in the next step.
9. Secure the lamp assemblies using the six (6) previously
removed screws from the cover plates.
