ThankyouforselectingtheExtechDCP42SwitchingModePowerSupply.Thisnewlyredesigned
laboratorygradepowersupplydiffersfromaconventionalpowersupplyinthatitcancalculate
andchangethevoltageandcurrentlimitpointsaccordingtotheavailablemaximumpower.
Thereforethemaximumlimitsofthevoltageandcurrentarechangeableaccordingtotherated
power.Aconventionalpowersupplyhasonlyasetmaximumvoltageandcurrentsuchthatallof
theoperatingV&Amustfallwithintheselimits.TheDCP42offerscostsavingandspacesaving
advantagesasoneconstantpowerpowersupply
candotheworkofseveralconventionalpower
supplies.
TheDCP42ishighlyefficient,incorporatesupgradedSMPScircuitrywithsmallformfactor,benefits
fromanautomaticcrossoverforCCandCV,hasthree(3)Voltage/Currentpresets,andcanbe

4. ControlModes
Therearefourcontrolmodesforthepowersupply:NORMAL,PRESET,SET,andREMOTECONTROL
modes.ThepowersupplyisfactorypresettoNormalModewithmaximumcurrentlevelCC.
4.1NormalMode
Thisisthefactorydefaultmode;thepowersupplyoutputVoltageandCurrentarecontrolledby
thedualactiongainknobs.
1. Pushtheknobstotogglethecoarseandfinetuning,noticethesubtlechangesin
brightnessoftherelatedLED.
2. Adjusttheknobstothedesiredvaluesusingcoarseandthenfinetuning.
3. Tocheckthepresetcurrentlevel,turntheCurrentKnoblightlyinanydirection.
4. Thedisplaywillresumeitsnormalbrightnessafterafewsecondstoreaffirmthe
adjustment.
4.2PresetMode

5. Operation
Note:TheDCP42TotalOutputVoltageRangeis42VDCandtheTotalRatedCurrentis0to10ADC
5.1PoweringtheSupply
ChecktheratinglabelofthepowersupplyandensurethatitcomplieswiththeACmainsvoltage
thatistobeused.ConnectthepowersupplytotheACMainsusingtheprovidedpowercord.
5.2SwitchingthePowerSupplyONandSelfTestInformation
ThepowersupplywillperformaseriesofselftestswhenitisswitchedON.TheLEDandother
indicatorsonthefrontpanelwillilluminateinsequence.Whenthecoolingfanisbeingchecked,
ahighspeedwindsoundcanbeheard.Aftertheselftests,theCV,V
andALEDindicatorsarelit
andtheunitdisplaysvoltageand0.0current.TofindtheCCcurrentlevel,turnthecurrent
controlknoboneclickineitherdirection.Thecurrentdisplayreturnsto0.0afterafewseconds.
5.3UsingtheControlknobs
Therotaryencodercontrolknobshavefineandcoarsetuningwith‘clicking’movement.Push
theknobstotogglebetweencoarseandfinetuning,noticethesubtlechangesinbrightnessof
therelatedLED.Adjusttheknobstothedesiredvaluesbyusingcoarseandthenfinetuning.
Thedisplaywillresumeitsnormalbrightnessafterfewsecondstoconfirmanadjustment.
5.4ConnectingthePowerSupplyandrunningaTest
1. Connecttheequipmentundertesttothepowersupply.Red(+)isconnectedtothepositive
polarityinputoftheequipmentandBlack()isconnectedtothenegativepolarityinputof
theequipment.
2. SwitchONthepowersupplyfirst;thepanelmeter&greenCVIndicatorshouldilluminate.
3. Next,switchONtheequipmentundertest;thepanelmeter&greenCVIndicatorshould
remainlitingreen.
4. Testingcannowbegin.
5. Whenfinished,switchOFFtheequipmentundertestfirstandthenswitchoffthepower
supply.
5.5KeypadLockoutfunction
1. PressLOCK/UNLOCKtolockorunlockallofthefunctionbuttonsandcontrolknob sonthe
frontpanel.

6.3UpperVoltageandCurrentLimits
Whenthevoltageorcurrentattheoutputterminalexceedsthemaximumallowablelimits,the
outputwillautomaticallyswitchOFF.Thisadditionalprotectionfeatureisnecessaryforapower
supplywithsuchawiderangeofvoltageandcurrentcapabilities.
TosettheUVL:
1. TosettheUVL:PresstheSHIFTbuttonandthenpresstheVoltagecontrolknob.The
voltmeterwillshowthecurrentlimitsettingandtheAmmeterwillshowSuul.
2. Turnthe Voltagecontrolknobtothedesiredlimitvalue.PressSHIFTtoconfirmandto
returntonormaloperation.
3. TosettheUCL,pressSHIFTandthenpresstheCurrentcontrolknob.TheAmmeterwill
showthecurrentlimitsettingandtheVoltmeterwillshowSUCL.
4. Turnthe Currentcontrolknobtothedesiredlimitvalue.PressSHIFTtoconfirmandto
returntonormaloperation.

Thisunithasabuiltintrackingovervoltageprotectionfeature.Intheeventofoutputvoltage
becominggreaterthanthesetvalue(seespecifiedrangefromspecificationstable),protection
willbetriggeredandtheoutputpowerwillbecutoffandOUPwarningappearsasbelow.
Toresetthewarning,switchofftheunitandremoveallloading.
Switchtheunitbackonagainanditshould resumenormaloperation.
Ifthisproblempersists,pleasecontactthecustomercaredepartmentorthepointofpurchase.
OTP:OverTemperatureProtection
Thereisathermosensorinsidetheunittomonitorandpreventtheunitfromundulyheating
internally.WhenanOTPerroroccurs,thereisnooutputandthefollowingwarningwillappear
ontheLEDdisplay.
Whenthiswarningappears,switchofftheunitandremoveallloading.
Checktheloadandoutputsetting.Allowtheunittocoolforatleast30minutes.
Checktoseeifanyventilationholesareblocked,alsocheckthatthereissufficientclearance
aroundthepowersupply.
Listencarefullyfortheshortwindsoundemanatingfromthecoolingfanwhentheunitis
switchedONagain.Ifthewindsoundisnotdetected,thefanmaybefaulty;donotusethe
powersupplyinthiscase,contactthecustomercaredepartmentortheagentfromthepointof
purchase.
