ADTRAN 1000 DSLAM Quad H2 Installation and Maintenance

Type
Installation and Maintenance

ADTRAN 1000 DSLAM Quad H2 is a device that can be used to connect up to four HDSL2 lines, providing an interface to the network. It supports both SF and ESF data framing formats, and B8ZS line code format. The device also has local and remote loopbacks, and front panel indicators that show the status of the unit.

Here are some possible use cases for the ADTRAN 1000 DSLAM Quad H2:

  • Connecting multiple HDSL2 lines to a network
  • Providing an interface between a network and a customer premises
  • Troubleshooting HDSL2 lines

1000 DSLAM Quad H2LIU (HDSL2 Line Interface Unit)
Installation and Maintenance
1. GENERAL
This section provides installation and maintenance
information for the ADTRAN Total Access 1000
Quad H2LIU (HDSL2 Line Interface Unit). Figure 1
is an illustration of the unit.
Revision History
This is the second release of this document. This
revision change was to incorporate new loop
requirements.
Features
The basic features of the Total Access 1000 Quad
H2LIU, List 1, P/N 1179109L1 include the following:
Terminates up to four HDSL2 lines providing
an interface to the network.
NOTE
When using the Quad H2LIU to span power the
Total Access 1000 DSLAM the system may be
powered using two, three or four HDSL2 loops.
Deployment limits of the HDSL2 interfaces will
depend upon the service mix and cross-talk
environment of the feeder pairs used to provide
the HDSL2 service in a given installation. The
HDSL2 interfaces of the Quad H2LIU will
operate at a range of 7,500 feet of 26 AWG with
5 dBm of noise margin using the ANSI
T1.418-2002 crosstalk models. If it is desired to
deploy the Total Access 1000 DSLAM on two
HDSL2 interfaces, the DC loop resistance of
each loop should be less than 614 ohms which is
approximately 7,360 ft of 26 AWG cable. The
Total Access 1000 DSLAM can not in any
circumstance be powered by a single HDSL2
loop. When using two or more HDSL2 loops to
span power the Total Access 1000 DSLAM the
maximum difference in the DC resistance of any
two pairs should be less than 83 ohms, which
equates to approximately 1000 ft of 26 AWG
cable. The Adtran Quad H2LIU is only designed
to operate with 3
rd
generation Adtran H2TUCs
(122300XLX, 1181113LX or equivalent).
Questions on the compatibility of the Total
Access 1000 Quad H2LIU and other H2TUCs
should be directed to Adtran Technical Support
at (800) 726-8863.

General Description
The ADTRAN Total Access 1000 Quad H2LIU is a
common card plug-in for the ADTRAN Total Access
1000 DSLAM. It connects the Data Access Terminal
to a HDSL2 line. All data formatting and line
encoding as well as backplane timing and control are
performed by the Total Access 1000 Quad H2LIU.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
(1) This device may not cause harmful interference,
and (2) this device must accept any interference
received, including interference that may cause
undesired operation.
Changes or modifications not expressly approved by
ADTRAN could void the user’s authority to operate
this equipment.

HANDLING PRECAUTIONS REQUIRED.
After unpacking the unit, inspect it for damage. If
damage is noted, file a claim with the carrier, and then
contact ADTRAN. Refer to Warranty and Customer
Service.
The Total Access 1000 Quad H2LIU, List 1, plugs
directly into the ADTRAN Total Access 1000 Data
Access Terminal. No installation wiring is required.
The Total Access 1000 Quad H2LIU should be
installed in the Total Access 1000 Data Access
Terminal channel bank in the slot labeled LIU. When
installing the H2LIU in the Total Access 1000, grasp
the unit by the front panel and push the unit into the
connector until the unit is fully seated. Lock the unit
into position.
Compliance Codes
This product is intended to be installed in product
providing a Type “B” or “E” enclosure, and in a
Restricted Access Location. Table 1 shows the
compliance codes for the Total Access 1000 LIU.
Provisioning Options
All options on the H2LIU are provisionable
electronically using the craft interface on the ATM
BCU. See Figure 2.
Electronic Provisioning
The craft interfaces on the Total Access 1000 ATM
BCU are used to change default options and obtain
access module status through menu screens. To access
the menu screens, connect a VT100 terminal or
computer running a terminal emulation program to the
faceplate craft interface ADMIN port using a standard
male-to-male RS-232 DB-9 cable. Craft port settings
are as follows:
9600 Baud (default) (changeable to 19200 or
38400 in menus)
No parity
8 Data bits
1 Stop bit
Windows HyperTerminal
Windows HyperTerminal can be used as a VT100
terminal emulation program. Open HyperTerminal by
selecting PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/
HYPERTERMINAL. Refer to the Help section of
HyperTerminal for additional questions.
NOTE
To ensure proper display background, select
VT100 terminal emulation under SETTINGS.
Password
The ATM BCU will display the log on screen, and a
valid user ID and password are required to access
menus. The factory default is ADMIN for the account
administrator, and PASSWORD for the password.
Menu Navigation
To traverse through the menus, select the desired entry
and press ENTER. To work backward in the menu
press the ESC (escape) key.

Front Panel Indicators
The front panel LEDs provide status and alarm
information. There are four LED indicators on the
LIU front panel, one for each HDSL2 network loop.
See Table 2 for LED indicators.
3. TESTING
Loopback Tests
Network Loopback
HDSL2 data is looped back toward the network with
framing and line coding unchanged.
Backplane Loopback
HDSL2 data is looped back toward both the network
and the customer. The network data is looped back
after it has passed through the framer and LIU
circuitry. The customer data is looped back
immediately upon entry to the LIU.
4. MAINTENANCE
The Total Access 1000 Quad H2LIU requires no
routine maintenance to operate properly. In case of
equipment malfunction, use the front panel indicators
to determine the trouble source.
