IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Installation DOs and DON’Ts
WARNING: FIRE AND ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD – This device should
be installed by a qualified service technician with due regard
for safety as improper installation could result in a fire and
electric shock hazard.
DO
Shut o all power to system before installing.
Read enre manual before installing.
Make sure that all wiring conforms to naonal and local codes.
DO NOT

thermostat. The SMART 2000
is a mul-funcon thermostat. Many conguraons may be programmed through
the buon interface or remotely using ModBus communicaons.
This manual is a guide on how to perform the basic installaon, programming and
tesng of the SMART 2000 so it funcons as a single-stage, manual thermostat.
Only the steps needed to provide a funconing thermostat with minimal features
and programming will be discussed. When nished, the thermostat will be
operaonal for the following:
Manual thermostat
1 Heat/1 Cool
1 Speed Fan
Fan is controlled by thermostat
Short cycle timer at four minutes
Minimum run time of two minutes
Single setpoint
4
IMPORTANT: The SMART 2000 should be mounted in a location that is typical of
the ambient room temperature. Do not install it near the floor, in a
draft, behind a door, or on a non-insulated, exterior wall. Install the
SMART 2000 away from exposure to sunlight and four to five feet
above the floor.
Figure 1
Lift the cover (Figure 1) on the housing to expose a slot at the bottom. Take
notice of the decorative cover hinge points and the connection between the
two halves.
Insert a screwdriver or coin into the slot and twist. This will separate the two
halves.
Step 1 - Mount the Base Plate
5
Continue to swing the top half upward. This will release the decorative cover
hinge and the tabs holding the top half in place. Continue to secure the
thermostat until it is fully mounted.
Pull the control wires through the large opening in the base plate.
Position the base plate on the wall and attach it with appropriate fasteners
(Figure 2) (two screws with drywall anchors are supplied). The base plate
should be visibly level.
Block any holes where wires are pulled through a wall opening. This will
prevent drafts from entering the back of the thermostat.

Step 2 - Battery and Switch Set-Up
Locate the battery on the circuit board and remove the plastic tab. The battery
will make contact with the terminals in the holder.
Locate the row of eight DIP switches (Figure 3).
Use a small screwdriver to position the switches as listed in Table 1. DO NOT
USE A LEAD PENCIL.

thermostat should be OFF.

Step 3 - Attach Wires
Figure 4 shows the wiring connecons for this applicaon. Other wires may be
present, but will not be used.
Cover the ends of unused wires with electrical tape to prevent electrical
contact.
The wires will push into the terminal strips from the top. Strip the wire back
3/16" (5mm). Loosen the screw and insert the wire. Tighten the screw.
8
Pull on the wire to be certain it is clamped properly.
The SMART 2000 is powered by 24V AC +/-15%. The program, as well as
day and time are backed up with a battery. If the 24 Volt power is lost, the
equipment will not function.

Step 4 - Close the Cover
Position the top decorative cover with the pins in the base plate openings.
Hold the decorative cover up and connect the top hinge points between the
two halves.
Swing the top half downward until it snaps in place. This will trap the
decorative cover hinge pins. The electrical pins at the bottom will slide into the
terminal strips.

Step 5 - Apply Power
Apply the 24V AC power to the SMART 2000.
All of the segments on the screen should display, followed by the soware
version.
The display will then show a me of day, current temperature, mode and fan
status.
Step 6 - Test
Test the fan operation.
Test heating and cooling. Turn the SMART 2000 to Auto Changeover mode by
pressing the MODE button until the words HEAT and COOL are shown on
the LCD.
