GENERAL WARNINGS
!
CAREL bases the development of its products on decades of
experience in HVAC/R, on continuous investments in technological
innovations to products, procedures and strict quality processes
with in-circuit and functional testing on 100% of its products, and
on the most innovative production technology available on the
market. CAREL and its subsidiaries/affiliates nonetheless cannot
guarantee that all the aspects of the product and the software
included with the product respond to the requirements of the
final application, despite the product being developed according
to start- of- the- art techniques. The customer (manufacturer,
developer or installer of the final equipment) accepts all liability
and risk relating to the configuration of the product in order to

setup/configuration/programming/commissioning to be able to
operate in the best possible way for the specific application.
Failure to complete such operations, which are
required/indicated in the user manual, may cause the final
product to malfunction; CAREL accepts no liability in such cases.
Only qualified personnel may install or carry out technical service
on the product. The customer must only use the product in the
manner described in the documentation relating to the product.
In addition to observing any further warnings described in this
manual, the following warnings must be heeded for all CAREL

l prevent the electronic circuits from getting wet. Rain,
humidity and all types of liquids or condensate contain
corrosive minerals that may damage the electronic circuits. In

With reference to European Union directive 2012/19/EU issued on
4 July 2012 and related national legislation, please note that:
1. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) cannot be
disposed of as municipal waste but must be collected separately
so as to allow subsequent recycling, treatment or disposal, as
required by law;
2. users are required to take Electrical and Electronic Equipment
(EEE) at end- of- life, complete with all essential components, to
the WEEE collection centres identified by local authorities. The
directive also provides for the possibility to return the equipment
to the distributor or retailer at end-of-life if purchasing equivalent

1. Introduction
k.Air is a pre-programmed controller for air conditioning and ventilation units.
k.Air ensures simple commissioning, application flexibility, advanced connectivity and usability, thanks to
the following features:
l preloaded configurations of air handling units, configuration tool or manual procedure;
l modular concept for the management of additional configurations by coupling together c.pCOe
expansion modules via a built-in serial card;
l management of high-efficiency direct expansion units
l application of energy saving and adiabatic humidification management algorithms;
l advanced connectivity, thanks to three serial ports and an Ethernet port, certified Bacnet protocol and
remote control via tERA.
l integrated web server interface.
k.Air is available in two sizes: mini P/N P+DA00FHD*FK and large P/N P+5A00SFC*LK. Both models share
the same software functions, however they differ in terms of the number and characteristics of the
available inputs/outputs and serial communication ports.
The number of inputs/outputs can be expanded using up to 4 c.pCOe expansion modules.

It is possible to connect CAREL temperature and humidity probes, active differential pressure probes,
flow switches and thermostats, with control functions or to signal alarms in the event of a fault.
The application offers numerous pre- set basic unit configurations (I/O map and related associated
functions); if the unit being configured deviates from these models (e.g. if the devices are connected to a
different input/output or the unit has other devices and functions), the software can be reconfigured on
the PGDE display or using the configuration tool.

pGDE graphic terminal
The pGDE graphic terminal part number PGNE000* allows complete graphics management, with icons
and international fonts.
Installation accessories:

th-Tune terminal
th-Tune part number AT* is the room terminal that, together with the k.Air programmable controller,
allows the user to set the room temperature and humidity (when the corresponding probes are
available). Based on the model, the power supply can be chosen between 230 Vac and 24 Vac/Vdc. th-
Tune is compatible with the main recessed wall boxes on the market. The temperature set point can be
set simply and intuitively using the front knob. For assembly details, see the technical leaflet +0500016IE.

pGDX terminal
The 4.3-inch pGDx graphic terminal, P/N PGB04*** is part of the touch screen family, designed to make
the user interface with k.Air controllers simple and intuitive. The electronic technology used and the 65K
colour display enable management of high quality images and advanced features to ensure a high
aesthetic standard. The touch screen display guarantees simple human-machine interaction, making it
easier to browse between the various screens. The pGDx terminal can be used to fully browse the k.Air
webserver, thus acting as a unit terminal. In the version with built-in T/H probe, it can be used as a room
terminal, getting the temperature and humidity values directly from the main controller.

HumiSonic ultrasonic humidifier
Adiabatic ultrasonic humidifier for installation inside the air handling unit.
Installed directly in the air flow, humiSonic atomises water into very small droplets (5 µm on average),
which are instantly absorbed by the air flow. This is proposed as a high energy efficiency alternative to
steam humidification.
It is available in the Ventilation and Compact versions.
In the Ventilation version, it has capacity of 2 kg/h at 18 kg/h, and is designed for installation inside air
handling units or ducts.
It comprises an atomising production and distribution unit and an external electrical panel. For more
details see manual +0300063EN.

Humifog high pressure sprayer
High pressure adiabatic humidifier for humidity control and evaporative cooling. humiFog combines an
intelligent pumping station with a modular distribution system, equipped with special nozzles capable
of maximising water atomisation and allowing a short absorption distance. Inverter modulation ensures
very accurate control of pump speed, reducing energy consumption and optimising water use. With
capacities from 100 to 1000 kg/h, it is designed for applications with high humidification demand, where
precision and hygiene are distinctive factors.

uChiller
μChiller is Carel’s solution for the complete management of direct expansion units. The maximum
configuration manages 2 compressors per circuit (On/Off or BLDC), up to a maximum of 2 circuits (using
an expansion card for circuit 2). The distinctive element of μChiller is complete control of high-efficiency
units through integrated management electronic expansion valves (ExV) and the brushless DC
compressors, guaranteeing
greater compressor protection and reliability and high unit efficiency. CAREL’s APPLICA” app, available
on Google Play for the Android operating system, makes it easier to configure parameters and
