This product has been made to the highest standards of
quality, functionality and design. We hope that it will give
you many years of satisfaction.
Functions
The Braun time control AB 55 fsl is set and controlled
automatically by the long wave radio signal of the German
time transmitter DCF 77 (Central European Time). The
transmitter is situated in Mainflingen, 24 km south of
Frankfurt/Main. The DU 77 transmitter uses the caesium
atomic clock of the Federal Physical Technical Institute in
Brunswick as its time source.
Reception
The radio signal can be received within a 1000 km radius of
the transmitter, depending on the position of the clock and
the local conditions. Interference can occur as with any
radio receiver, for example from external factors such as TV
sets, computers or radios, or by metal panelling in or on
buildings. Please see separate paragraph «Interference».
Batteries
The Braun time control uses 2 alkaline Mignon batteries
(LR 6, MM 1500, AM 3, AA alkaline). Do not use
rechargeable batteries, since their voltage level is too low.
The batteries provide operation for approximately
one year.
Used batteries should not be thrown away with the
household rubbish. Please dispose of them at
special collection points or return them to your
dealer.
Setting in operation
To open the battery compartment, slide the lid at the bottom
of the clock in the direction of the arrow. Make sure that
the poles of the batteries are in the right direction. Slide the
lid back into the clock until it engages.
Reception
1. Initial reception
As soon as the batteries have been inserted, the clock
automatically sets the time. The hands are moving to 12
o'clock. The light (under the figure 6) flashes at intervals of
1 second thus showing that reception is beginning.
Normal reception
After 1 to 2 minutes, provided there is no interference, the
hands of the clock perform a full turn and then automatically
move to the right places. The light (under the figure 6)
goes off.
Interference
Should the reception be disturbed, the light (under the
figure 6) flashes at irregular intervals for up to 6 minutes.
Turn the clock around or move it to another place.
lf the clock is not being set automatically (no reception), the
clock can be set manually (see paragraph «Functions»).
Should contact to the radio signal be restored, the time is
automatically adjusted according to the signal received.
2. Checking the exact time
The time which has been previously compared with the
transmitted information every hour and corrected if
necessary.
Should it not be possible to receive the signal during such a
checking phase, the time programmed in previously is
stored and the clock continues to run on its quartz
mechanism.
3. Checking the signal reception
lf there had been a reception of the time signal within the
past 12 hours, the light (under the figure 6) flashes once
briefly when pressing the «snooze/light» button.
Functions
Setting the time manually
The time can be set manually when setting the clock in
operation, before the reception of the time signal is possible.
After the batteries are inserted, the hands move to 12
o'clock. Press the «snooze/light» button for approximately 8
seconds and hold for fast setting of the clock hands. For
exact setting of the minutes the «snooze/light» button can
be pressed in intervals. During the interval-setting no
pauses of more than 15 seconds should be made,
otherwise the setting mode would be finished.
Setting the alarm
The alarm setting wheel at the right side of the clock is used
to move the alarm hand to the desired position. This wheel
can be turned only in the direction of the arrow.
Alarm function
The alarm function is turned on and off by pressing the bar
«alarm on/off». The green side of the alarm bar is visible
when the alarm is turned on.
Snooze/light function
Both functions are operated by pressing the button
«snooze/light». The clock face is illuminated as long as the
button is being pressed.
Once the alarm goes off, the snooze function can be
activated; the alarm signal is interrupted for 8 minutes. This
function can be activated for a total of 3 times.
Setting time zones
When the clock had been set automatically by radio signal,
a different time zone can be set manually.
To do so press the «snooze/light» button for approximately
8 seconds. Thereafter, the hands will move for ward 1 hour.
lf the «snooze/light» button is pressed again for 8 seconds,
the hands will move forward another hour. This procedure
can be repeated as often as desired – however, only
forward. The selected time zone setting will be retained
during the next radio reception of the time signal.
Should the clock be reset to the original setting, the time
zone setting can be operated until the original setting is
reached.
The original setting can also be obtained by removing and
subsequently re-inserting the batteries (see paragraph
«Setting in operation»). The batteries should not be re-
inserted sooner than after 15 seconds.
Subject to change without notice.
