Congratulations on your purchase of a PolyVision™ Walk-and-Talk™
Presentation Series interactive whiteboard, which provides a sleek and
simple solution to whiteboard interactivity using your computer and
projector.
This manual describes how to install the Walk-and-Talk Presentation Series
interactive whiteboard (models 1400, 1600 and 1800). For information
about using the whiteboard, refer to the
Walk-and-Talk Presentation Series
User Manual
. An electronic (PDF) version of this user guide is installed with
the software (or available for download at www.polyvision.com).
To view the user guide:
Click “Start” in the lower left corner of your desktop, choose

This manual describes how to install the PolyVision™ Walk-and-Talk™
Presentation Series interactive whiteboard (models 1400, 1600 and 1800).
Installation options include:
Mounting the board to a sheetrock, brick, cinderblock, plaster, or
metal wall. Instructions and some fasteners are provided to help you
install the Walk-and-Talk whiteboard when walls have metal or wood
studs. Be sure to locate studs and drive mounting screws into them
whenever possible.
Mounting the board to a mobile stand available from your PolyVision
dealer. If you use this option, follow the mounting instructions
provided with the mobile stand, then proceed to “Connecting Power
and Data to the Board” on page 12.
Mounting the board to the Walk-and-Talk™ Track System, a rolling
power and data track system that works over an existing whiteboard
or on a blank wall. If you use this option, follow the mounting
instructions provided with the Track System.
Adding wireless infrared communication between the board and your
computer by installing the Walk-and-Talk wireless option. If you are
using this option, complete the instructions in this manual first, then
proceed using instructions provided with your Walk-and-Talk wireless
system.
The board weighs 45 to 75 pounds (20 to 34 kg). Plan your installation
work accordingly. Two people are needed for portions of this installation.

Preparing to Mount the Wall Brackets
These instructions guide you through installing Walk-and-Talk on a
sheetrock wall. If your wall material is some other substance, such as
concrete or brick, use these instructions as a guideline but install
appropriate anchors to secure the unit to the wall.
Locate and have ready to use:
Tape measure
Phillips screwdriver
Drill
Model 1400 or 1600: three wall brackets and six sheetrock anchors
with screws
Model 1800: four wall brackets and eight sheetrock anchors with
screws

To position the wall brackets:

Choose a location on the wall with convenient access to your
computer, an AC power outlet, and a projector or network connection
you plan to use.

Using a stud nder, locate wooden or metal wall studs that can be
used to secure the wall brackets to the wall.
note:NOTE:
The mounting pockets on the back of the whiteboard can be adjusted left
or right. This enables you to attach wall brackets to studs, and then adjust
the position of the mounting pockets to align with the wall bracket. Refer to
“Mounting the Board to the Wall Brackets” on page 10.

Carefully mark three (model 1400 or 1600) or four (model 1800) drill
hole locations as indicated in the table and illustration below, based on
your Walk-and-Talk model. Measurements are for a standard (adult)
height whiteboard*:
*To allow access for young children, reduce vertical measurements by
6 inches (152 mm).

Using a wall bracket as a template, mark the lower screw hole
locations for each wall bracket.

Mounting the Wall Brackets
note:NOTE:
Instructions and fasteners are provided to help you install the Walk-and-
Talk whiteboard when walls have metal or wood studs. Be sure to locate
wall studs and use them to drive mounting screws whenever possible. On
the back of the board, the mounting pockets can move left or right to help
you align the wall brackets with studs. Refer to “Mounting the Board to the
Wall Brackets” on page 10.
To mount the wall brackets:
1For sheet rock walls where there is no wall stud available, screw the
self-tapping sheet rock anchors provided into the wall using a power
driver. Fasten wall brackets to wall anchors using Phillips screws
provided.
2Where wall studs are available, fasten the wall brackets directly to the
wall using two Phillips screws (provided) per wall bracket.
3Assure that the screws are snug.

MOUNTING THE BOARD TO THE WALL
Preparing to Mount the Board
Locate and have ready to use:
Screwdriver
Allen wrench
An assistant to lift the board
Mounting the Board to the Wall Brackets
1On the back of the board, adjust the horizontal position of the
mounting pockets as necessary to match the positions of the wall
brackets. To do so, use an Allen wrench (provided) to loosen the set
screws that secure the mounting pocket on the back of the
whiteboard. Slide the pocket horizontally in its track. Tighten the
screws when the pocket aligns with the position of the wall bracket.

2With the help of an assistant, lift the board and hang it on the three
(model 1400 or 1600) or four (model 1800) wall brackets.

CONNECTING POWER AND DATA TO THE BOARD

Locate and have ready to use:
Power adapter
USB cable with PolyKey
Connecting Cables
To connect power to the whiteboard:
Plug the power adapter into a power outlet and to the board.

The Power/Status LED on the lower left corner of the board glows solid
yellow until the Walk-and-Talk software is communicating with the board,
then it turns green.
Refer to the Walk-and-Talk User Guide for details on LED status.
If you need to install Walk-and-Talk software on your computer, use the
PolyKey for instant plug and play. (Windows 98 users: install software using
the CD provided)
To install Walk-and-Talk software on your computer using Windows ME,
2000, XP, or Tablet XP:
1Locate the Walk-and-Talk USB cable.
2Connect the PolyKey on the USB cable to your computers USB port.
3On many computers, installation will start automatically. If it doesnt
double-click My Computer on your desktop and double-click the
Power/Status LED

removable disk drive named PolyKey. Walk-and-Talk software installs
on your computer.
4Follow the prompts you see on the screen to complete the installation.
To install Walk-and-Talk software on a computer using Windows 98:
1Turn on your computer and wait for Windows to start. For best results,
make sure no applications are running.
2Place the Walk-and-Talk software CD in your CD-ROM drive. The
setup program starts. If the setup program does not start, open
Windows Explorer and double-click Setup.exe on the CD.
3Follow the prompts to install the software.
4Restart, if prompted.
When installation is complete, a message appears on your computer
screen and the Walk-and-Talk icon appears in your system tray.
To start using Walk-and-Talk:
5Disconnect the PolyKey from your computers USB port after
installation is complete.
6Connect the USB cable to your computers USB port and the other
cable end to the Walk-and-Talk whiteboard.

Walk-and-Talk runs unobtrusively in the background whenever your
computer is on and connected to the Walk-and-Talk board via the USB
cable.
For information about using your Walk-and-Talk electronic whiteboard, refer
to the Walk-and-Talk Presentation Series User Guide. An electronic (PDF)
version of the user guide is installed with the software (and is also available
for download at www.polyvision.com).
To view the user guide:
In Windows: Click Start in the lower left corner of your desktop,

PREPARING THE WALK-AND-TALK WHITEBOARD FOR USE
INSTALL THE REMOTE CONTROL HOLSTER
The remote control holster ts on either edge of the whiteboard and is easy
to raise or lower.
To install the holster:
1Locate the two thumbscrews for the holster bracket.
2Gently wrap the holster bracket onto one edge of the whiteboard. Do
not force it.
3Fasten the bracket to the board using the two thumbscrews.
To raise or lower the holster:
1Loosen the two thumbscrews that hold the holster to the board.
2Slide the holster up or down.
3Tighten the thumbscrews.
To move the holster to the other side of the board:
1Remove the two thumbscrews that hold the holster to the board.
2Loosen the thumbscrew on the back of the holster, reverse the
bracket position, and tighten the thumbscrew again.
3Position the holster on the opposite whiteboard edge.
4Replace the two thumbscrews that hold the holster to the board.

ADD BATTERIES TO THE REMOTE
The Walk-and-Talk infrared remote control uses two AA batteries
(provided).
To add batteries:
Press down and pull back to release the battery compartment door.

ADD BATTERIES TO THE ERASER
The Walk-and-Talk eraser uses two AAA batteries (provided).
To add batteries:
1Gently peel back the soft eraser handle to expose the battery
compartment.
2Insert the batteries as marked. Make sure that you place the batteries
in with the positive terminals on the positive (+) side.
REGISTER WALK-AND-TALK
By registering your product, your warranty is automatically extended by
three years and you will receive enhanced customer service with
information on software upgrades.
