Training

Preparation

•Whilemowing,alwayswearsubstantial,

slip-resistantfootwearandlongtrousers.Tieback

anylonghair.Donotwearjewelry.

•Thoroughlyinspecttheareawheretheequipment

istobeusedandremoveallobjectswhichmaybe

thrownbythemachine.

•Warning-Fuelishighlyammable.

–Storefuelincontainersspecicallydesigned

forthispurpose.

–Refueloutdoorsonlyanddonotsmokewhile

refueling.

–Addfuelbeforestartingtheengine.Never

removethecapofthefueltankoraddfuel

whiletheengineisrunningorwhentheengine

ishot.

–Iffuelisspilled,donotattempttostartthe

enginebutmovethemachineawayfromthe

areaofspillageandavoidcreatinganysource

ofignitionuntilfuelvaporshavedissipated.

–Replaceallfueltanksandcontainercaps

securely.

•Replacefaultysilencers.

•Beforeusing,alwaysvisuallyinspecttoseethat

theblades,bladeboltsandcutterassemblyare

notwornordamaged.Replacewornordamaged

bladesandboltsinsetstopreservebalance.

•Onmulti-bladedmachines,takecareasrotating

onebladecancauseotherbladestorotate.

Operation

•Bealert,slowdownandusecautionwhenmaking

turns.Lookbehindandtothesidebeforechanging

directions.

•Donotoperatetheengineinaconnedspace

wheredangerouscarbonmonoxidefumescan

collect.

•Mowonlyindaylightoringoodarticiallight.

•Beforeattemptingtostarttheengine,disengage

allbladeattachmentclutchesandshiftintoneutral.

•Donotuseonslopesofmorethan15degrees.

•Rememberthereisnosuchthingasasafeslope.

Travelongrassslopesrequiresparticularcare.To

guardagainstoverturning:

–donotstoporstartsuddenlywhengoingup

ordownhill;

–uselowspeedsonslopesandduringtight

turns;

–stayalertforhumpsandhollowsandother

hiddenhazards;

•Usecarewhenpullingloads.

–Useonlyapproveddrawbarhitchpoints.

–Limitloadstothoseyoucansafelycontrol.

–Donotturnsharply.Usecarewhenreversing.

•Watchoutfortrafcwhencrossingornear

roadways.

•Stopthebladesrotatingbeforecrossingsurfaces

otherthangrass.

•Whenusinganyattachments,neverdirect

dischargeofmaterialtowardbystandersnorallow

anyonenearthemachinewhileinoperation.

•Neveroperatethemachinewithdamagedguards

orwithoutsafetyprotectivedevicesinplace.

•Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingsor

overspeedtheengine.Operatingtheengine

atexcessivespeedcanincreasethehazardof

personalinjury.

•Beforeleavingtheoperator'sposition:

–Disengagethepowertake-offandlowerthe

attachments;

–Changeintoneutralandsettheparkingbrake;

–Shutofftheengineandremovethekey.

•Disengagedrivetoattachments,shutoffthe

engine,anddisconnectthesparkplugwire(s)or

removetheignitionkey.

–Beforeclearingblockagesoruncloggingchute;

–Beforechecking,cleaningorworkingonthe

lawnmower;

–Afterstrikingaforeignobject.Inspectthe

lawnmowerfordamageandmakerepairs

beforerestartingandoperatingtheequipment;

–Ifthemachinestartstovibrateabnormally

•Shutofftheengineanddisengagedriveto

•Reducethethrottlesettingduringenginerun-out

•Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.If

lightningisseenorthunderisheardinthearea,do

notoperatethemachine;seekshelter.

MaintenanceandStorage

•Keepallnuts,boltsandscrewstighttobesurethe

equipmentisinsafeworkingcondition.

•Neverstoretheequipmentwithfuelinthetank

insideabuildingwherefumescanreachanopen

ameorspark.

•Allowtheenginetocoolbeforestoringinany

enclosure.

•Toreducetherehazard,keeptheengine,

silencer,batterycompartmentandfuelstorage

areafreeofgrass,leaves,orexcessivegrease.

•Checkthegrasscatcherfrequentlyforwearor

deterioration.

•Replacewornordamagedpartsforsafety.
