Installation
1. Findsuitablemountinglocations
TheMeteringReservoirsmustbelocatedabovethehighestwaterlevelinthesump(oraquariumifyoudon’t
useasump)andthereplacementwaterbin,ataheightwheretheselectedpumpswillbeabletosupplyat
least1gallonofwater
perminute.TheMeteringReservoirsrarelyneedtobeaccessedafterinstallation,so
feelfreetotuckthemawaysomewherethatkeepsyourdaytodayaquariumworkspaceclear.
Rememberwaterisheavy!TheMeteringReservoirsmustbesecurelymountedonaverticalsurfacethat
cansupporta
minimumof20poundsperbin.WhenmountingtheMeteringReservoirsonawall,ensurethat
themountingscrewswillbedrivenintowallstudsorusewallanchorsthatwillsupporttheweightofthebins.
TheControlModulemustbelocatedinaneasilyaccessible,drylocationprotected
fromaccidentalsplashes.
Thecordsandcontrolcablessuppliedareapproximately6feetinlength,andlevelsensorcablesare
approximately8feetinlength.EnsurethattheywillreachfromtheControlModuletotheirrespective
locationsbeforepermanentlymountingthecomponents.
2. MounttheMeteringReservoirs
Ensurenoelectricalwiresorplumbingresidebehindorwithinthemountingarea.Beverycarefulwhen
drillingordrivingscrewsintoablindmountinglocation!
Usingthesuppliedtemplateasaguide,markanddrilltwopilotholesasindicated.Notethatalinedrawn
betweenthecenterpoints
ofthetwoholesmustbeperfectlyvertical.
Insertwallanchorsifnecessary,followingalldirectionsprovidedwiththeanchors.
Drivethemountingscrewsintotheholesoranchors,leavingabout1/8”inchbetweenthescrewheadandthe
mountingsurface.
SliptheMeteringReservoirsontothescrews
andgentlypulldownabout1/2"untilfullyseated.Thereshould
beno“play”betweentheReservoirsandthemountingsurfacewhenproperlysecured.
o Tip:itisoftenconvenienttoinstalltubing,ballvalves,andReservoirCoverspriortomounting
theMeteringReservoirsonthescrews

3. MounttheControlModule

pilotholesasindicated.
Insertwallanchorsifnecessary,followingalldirectionsprovidedwiththeanchors.
Drivethemountingscrewsintotheholesoranchors,leavingjustlessthan3/8”inchbetweenthescrewhead
andthemountingsurface.
SliptheControlModuleontothescrewsandgently
pulldownabout1/2"untilfullyseated.Thereshouldbe

aquariumsystem(thewaste

RENEW™ControlModule,andplugtheotherendintothecenter6pinreceptacleonthebackoftheSTORM
ControlModule.
6. Attach the 1/2”
supply tubing on the replacement water’s Metering Reservoir to a pump and place the pump in the
replacementwaterbin.Cutthetubingtolengthifdesired.
7. Attachthe1/2”su pply tubingonthewastewater ’sMeteringReservoirtoapumpandplacethepumpinthea quariumor
sump.Cutthetubingtolengthifdesired.
8. Routethe5/8”tubingattachedtothereplacementwater’sMeteringReservoirbacktothereplacementwaterbin.The
tubingshouldbesecuredsuchthattheendofthetubingisjustabovethehighestwaterlevelinthebinandso
thatthe
waterwillrundownthesideofthebinasthewaterleveldrops.Doingsowillimprovewaterflowandreducenoisewhen
waterflowsbackintothereplacementwaterbin.Cutthetubingtolengthifnecessary.
9. Route the 5/8” tubing attached to the waste
water’s Metering Reservoir back to the aquarium or sump.The tubing
shouldbesecuredsuchthattheendof thetubingisjustabovethewaterlevelandsothatthe waterwillrundownthe
side.Doing so will improve water flow and reduce noise when water flows back
into the aquariumor sump. Cut the
tubingtolengthifnecessary.
10. Route the 1/2" tubingattached to the valve on the replacement water’sMetering Reservoir to the aquarium orsump.
The end ofthe tubing should be secured such that theend of the tubingis just above
the water level and so that the
waterwillrundowntheside.Doingsowillimprovewaterflowandreducenoisewhenreplacementwaterflowsintothe
aquariumorsump.Cutthetubingtolengthifnecessary.
11. Routethe1/2"tubingattachedtothevalveonthewastewater’sMeteringReservoirtoa suitablereceivingreceptacleor
drain.

GettingtoknowyourRENEW™AutomaticWaterChangeSystem
1. Afterinstallingyoursystem,pluggingitin,andpreparing yourreplacementwater,turnontheRENEW™systembyusing
thepowerswitchonthefrontfaceoftheControlModule.Whenpoweris“ON,”theswitchwillilluminate.SeveralLED
indicatorsandthedisplaywillilluminatewhenthepower
isonaswell.
2. Therearefour userinputbuttonsontheControlModule.Startingontheleftandmovingtowardtheright,thebuttons
areMODE,START/PAUSE/CANCEL,andthenINCREASEandDECREASEontheright.Allarelabeledaccordingly.
3. DepressingtheMODEbuttonchangeswhetherthesystem
willperformawaterchangeoverthecourseofaday,aweek,
oronegallonafteranotheruntilcomplete.Forexample,ifyouwantperforma24gallonwaterchangeoverthecourseof
24hours,usetheINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonsuntilthedisplayreads“24”andthen
presstheMODEbuttonuntilthe
indicatornextto“DAY”isilluminated.WhentheSTARTbuttonisdepressed thesystemwillstartasequenceof24one
gallon water changes, with 1 onegallon water change performed every hour (24 hrs/day divided by 24 gallons).
Changingthemodeto “WEEK” will
stretchthe24 gallon waterchangeoverthetimespan ofoneweekbyperforminga
onegallon water change every 7 hours (168 hrs/week divided by 24 gallons).Finally, changing the mode to
“CONTINUOUS” and pressing the START button would result in a onegallon water change followed immediately by
anotheronegallonwaterchange,foratotalof24changes.
4. The START/PAUSE/CANCEL button is the primary control button for the RENEW™ system.Momentarily pressing and
releasing the button will start asequenceof water changes.Momentarilypressing and releasing thebutton during an
activesequenceofwaterchangespauses
thesequenceuntilpressedagain,atwhichtimethesequenceofwaterchanges
will resume.Pressing and holding the button for between three and five seconds will permanently cancel an active
sequenceofwaterchanges.Pressingandholdingthebuttonforfivesecondsorlongerwillpermanentlycancelanactive
sequenceofwaterchangesandwillorderthesystemtoemptytheMeteringReservoirs.
The START/PAUSE/CANCEL buttonis the only buttonthat is activeduring a sequenceof water changes.Once a water
changesequencehasbeenstarted, the system will ignoreinputfromtheotherthreebuttons until the
waterchangeis
canceledorhascompleted.

OperationSettingsfortheRENEW™system.Thesesettingsallowtheusertoset
thetypeofsystemthattheyhave(Basic,
Advanced, or Pro), andare generally not needed afterthe system is initially installed unless the systemis upgradedto
includeadditional levelsensors.OnceinOperationSettings,theINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonsareusedtoselectthe
operation mode.Basic (“b”) mode
is the default andwill need to be changed if you have an Advanced or Pro model.
Basicmodedoes not monitor level sensorinput.Advanced (“A”) mode monitors thetwostandalone level sensorsthat
are placed inthe sump (or aquarium) andreplacement bin.Pro models can be run
in two different operating modes:
standard (“PS”) orabbreviated(“PA”).Pro Standard operatingmodewill monitor all six possible level sensorsand will
adjustthecycletimesbasedonthereservoirlevelsensors’inputs,andwillincludetheStandbystageaftereachDispense
stage.Pro Abbreviated operation will function similarly, but
will skip the Standby stage and immediatelystart another
cycle when in Continuous mode.Skipping the Standby stage allows the system to exchange a volume of water more
quickly,butdoesnotallowthewaterjustreplacedtomixwiththeentireaquariumvolumeasthoroughly.
7. Thepowerswitch
canbeusedatanytimetoquicklysh utoffyourRENEW™systemandisequippedwithathermalcircuit
breakerthatwillautomaticallyshutdownthesystemifitdrawsmorethan10amps.

andwhilestillholdingthemturntheunitbackon.YourRENEW™systemwill

InterruptingandCancelingaWaterChangeSequence
IfyoueverneedtopauseyourRENEW™systemwhileitisinanactivewaterchangesequence,simplypressandreleasethe
START/PAUSE/CANCELbutton.Thecurrentstageindicatorwillblinktoindicatethatthesystemispaused.Toresumethesequence,

Many factors beyond Genesis Reef Systems’ control and uniquely within the user’s knowledge and control can affect the use and performance of a Genesis Reef
Systems product in a particular application. Given the variety of factors that can affect the use and performance of a Genesis Reef Systems product, the user is
solely responsible for evaluating the Genesis Reef Systems product and determining whether it is fit for a particular purpose and suitable for the user’s method of
application.
Limited Warranty
Genesis Reef Systems warrants for 6 months from the date of purchase that Genesis Reef Systems products will be free of defects in material and manufacture.
Genesis Reef Systems makes no other warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular
purpose. This limited warranty does not cover damage resulting from use or misuse of a Genesis Reef Systems product, workmanship in application, or application
or storage not in accordance with Genesis Reef Systems recommended procedures. This warranty does not apply to products not directly manufactured by Genesis
Reef Systems or consumable items that may degrade as part of normal use.
Limitation of
Remedies and
Liability
If the Genesis Reef Systems product is proved to be defective within the warranty period stated above the exclusive remedy, at Genesis Reef Systems’ option, shall
be to refund the purchase price of or to repair or replace the defective Genesis Reef Systems product. Genesis Reef Systems shall not otherwise be liable for loss or
damages, whether direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential, regardless of legal theory asserted, including negligence, warranty, or strict liability.
