1 General
1.1 Overview
This document contains detailed information and procedures about equipment maintenance, troubleshooting
and alarm clearing.
Maintenance consists of a set of op
erations which maintain or bring back the assembly to optimum
operating conditions in a very short time, with the aim of obtaining maximum operational availability.
The maintenance activities have been su
bdivided in the following topics:
Routine maintenance - Periodic checks to discover deteriorated devices.
Corrective maintenance (troubleshooting) - Mainly managed with the use of the available com-
mand interfaces (ZIC (Zero-Installation Craft), T
L1 and CLI), to identify alarms and consequently
locate faults and repair and restore to normal condition.
Maintenance procedures - These are to be executed on the equipment (example: upgrading).
Frequently asked question - These are to facilitate the solution of customer maintenance activ-
ities.
The first part of this guide contains general maintenance indications.

1.2 Instruments and Accessories
There is a Personal Computer which displays all of the alarms. It also manages the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-
320 equipment by a suitable interface:

CT (ZI
C = Zero Installation Craft terminal)
Where Telecommunication Management Network (TMN) is implemented, an Opera
tion System (OS)
displays alarms and manages all the connected equipment of the network.
The need of special tools and accessories to perform possible
routine and corrective maintenance procedures
is described inside the procedures themselves.
Besides the usual accessories, kits and spare parts, Table 2. on page 16 lists the main accessories for the
maintenance operator.

SAFETY RULES
Carefully observe the front-panel warning labels prior to working on optical
con
nections while the equipment is in-service.
Should it be necessary to cut off power during
the operative phase, proceed to switch
off the power supply units as well as cut off power station upstream (rack or station
distribution frame).

A TNV-2 (battery) voltage could be present on
R/M interface connector" (cable side);
do NOT touch the pins when unplugged.
Possibility of personal injury.
Short circuiting, low–voltage, low–impedance,
DC circuits can cause severe arcing
that can result in burns and/or eye damage. Remove rings, watches, and other metal
jewelry before working with primary circuits. Exercise caution to avoid shorting power
input terminals.
