the related Smartcard which are approved by the service provider of the

performance of such CI-modules and/or smartcards. If you use an

NOTE

After first use of the Top Up smartcard, the smartcard gets matched

with the receiver it was initialised in. Therefore the smartcard will not

work in other receivers. Please contact Top-Up TV if you want to use

this smartcard in another receiver.

SAFETY GUIDELINES

1. INTENDED USE

This documentation set is intended for anyone

who uses an EchoStar terrestrial receiver. It can

be used by both first-time and experienced

users of terrestrial receivers who want to install,

use and maintain their receiver.

This User guide is applicable for the EchoStar

Terrestrial receivers and is divided into separate

sections and chapters. For easy access to the

information, a clear table of content is provided.

2. NOTATIONAL CONVENTIONS

Throughout this user guide, there may be

blocks of text indicated by symbols and printed

in a different way then the surrounding text.

These blocks of text ask the attention of the

reader to avoid hazardous situations. The

hazard levels are indicated as:

SITUATION WHICH, IF NOT AVOIDED, COULD

RESULT IN (SERIOUS) INJURY.

CAUTION

This caution indicates a situation which, if

not avoided, could damage the equipment

or other properties.

the user to make the user aware of possible

problems and information of any importance

to help the user to understand, to use and to

maintain the installation.

3. GENERAL SAFETY

Read this user guide carefully and make sure you understand the instructions given. For your

safety, know what the reaction upon each action will be. Do not perform any actions which are not

described in this user guide, failing to do so might result in an uncontrolled behavior of the receiver

or even in a hazardous situation for persons and/or equipment.

Disconnect the receiver from the mains before you start any maintenance or installation

procedures. Do not use alcohol or ammonia based liquids to clean the receiver. If required, clean

with a soft lint-free cloth slightly made damp with a mild soap solution.

Consult an authorized service technician if the receiver does not operate normally when the

instructions in this user guide are strictly followed. Do not to attempt to open the receiver, as you

will be exposed to a shock hazard.

To avoid the risk of electrical shock and fire, do not put any objects on top of the receiver which:

■ contain liquids, such as vases, glasses, bottles, etc.

■ contain an open heat source or open fire, such as candles, cigarettes, ash trays, etc.

■ could fall through the ventilation slots or which could cover them and prevent proper cooling of

the components inside.

Make sure that nothing rests on the receivers cables and that the cables are not located where they

can cause injury to persons and pets (e.g to stumble over, eat the cable).

Do not install the receiver:

■ in the open air;

■ in a closed or poorly ventilated cabinet;

■ directly on top of or under another equipment;

■ on a surface which will obstruct the ventilation slots.

Do not expose the receiver and it’s accessories:

■ to rain or excessive moisture to avoid the risk of shock or permanent damage to your receiver;

■ to direct sunlight, heaters, stoves or any other heat generating equipment;

■ to any magnetic objects, such as speakers, electric motors, transformers, etc.;

■ to excessive vibration.

To help avoid possible damage to the receiver’s electronics, wait 5 seconds after you switched off

the receiver before you move the receiver or disconnect any equipment.

For receivers with conditional access capabilities:

■ do not put any foreign objects into the Common Interface (CI) slots or smartcard reader.

■ do not touch the components or pins on the CI-module/smartcard

■ hold the CI-module and the smartcard by it’s edges.

4. ELECTRICAL SAFETY

When you use or connect electrical equipment,

always obey the safety regulations as

applicable in your country, to reduce the risk of

fire, electrical shock and personal injury.

Read and comply at least with the given safety

instructions.

■ Always make sure that the electrical power

supply corresponds with the voltage on the

electrical identification plate on the

equipment next to the electrical connection.

■ Your equipment is double insulated in

compliance with the standards as stated in

the EC Declaration of Conformity; therefore

no additional earth wire is required, though

the use of an earth leak switch and/or over

voltage protection switch is recommended.

■ Only use an approved extension

(convenience) lead suitable for the electrical

power consumption of the installed

equipment.

5. ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY

Most of the packaging materials can be

recycled. Please discard these materials in an

environmental safe manner.

5.1. BATTERIES

Unsafe disposed batteries can be hazardous to

your environment.

5.2. END OF LIFE DISPOSAL

Your receiver and related accessories contain

materials which can be recycled and reused.

Specialized companies can recycle your

equipment to increase the amount of reusable

materials and to minimise the amount of

materials to be disposed of.

Please inform yourself on local regulations on

disposal of your equipment.

5.3. LOGOS

The CE logo.

This logo tells you that the receiver is

following the provisions of Council

Directive 89/336/EEC on the

approximation of the laws of the Member

States relating to the electromagnetic

compatibility and the provisions of Council

Directive 73/23/EEC and 93/68/EEC on

the approximation of the laws of the

Member States relating to low voltage and

electrical safety.

The double insulation logo.

This logo tells you that the receiver is

electrically safe within the normal use of

the receiver as stated in the safety

chapter.

The Dolby Digital logo tells you that the

receiver is compliant with the Dolby Digital

standard.

The Digital Video Broadcasting logo.

This logo tells you that the receiver is

compliant with the DVB standards as

registered.

The warning-read the manual logo.

This logo tells you that you have to read

and follow the instructions as given in the

user guide that came with the receiver.

Failing to do so might cause damage or

personal (serious) injury.

QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE

1. REMOTE CONTROL UNIT

1.1. THE BATTERIES

The EchoStar Remote Control Unit (RCU) is

used to control the receiver. The RCU requires

two AAA (LR03, UM4) alkaline batteries to

operate.

1.2. THE KEYS

■ Mute, to temporary, shut down the audio.

■ ON/STANDBY, to switch to stand-by or on.

■ MENU, to go to the main menu.

■ GUIDE, to view the Electronic Program

Guide.

■ EXIT,

to leave a menu or feature;

to go one menu level back.

■ V-, to decrease the volume.

■ V+, to increase the volume.

■ i, To view the help, or to view additional

information, or to select an active option.

■ P+, to go one program or channel up.

■ P-, to go one program or channel down.

■ , to go left, up, right or down.

■ SELECT, to go to the channel list, or to

make a menu selection.

■ TV, to switch the receiver signal to the TV on

or off (SCART connection only).

2. TO INSTALL THE RECEIVER

For the location and availability of the basic front panel controls, please refer to the front panel as

shown on the packaging. If available, the basic front panel controls are:

OFF. MAKE SURE THAT IT IS SAFE TO PROCEED WITH THE INSTALLATION TASK. UNSAFE CIRCUITS AND

INSTALLATIONS CAN CAUSE (SERIOUS) INJURY OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

The standby/on button, to switch the receiver to Standby or On.

The arrow up button, to move one channel up.

The arrow down button, to move one channel down.

Indicators The orange indicator shows that there is sufficient signal received;

The red indicator shows that the receiver is in standby;

The green indicator shows that the receiver is set to on.

ANT IN

(IEC), to connect a terrestrial aerial (analogue and digital broadcasts).

TV OUT (IEC), to connect a VCR or TV (analogue only).

RS-232 (sub-D), for the connection to the serial communication port of a PC.

(Black) S/PDIF (RCA), to connect to a Dolby Digital amplifier or home cinema equipment.

TV (SCART), to connect to a TV with a fully-featured SCART cable;

VCR (SCART), to connect to a VCR with a fully-featured SCART cable.

(White) AUDIO L (RCA), to connect to the left audio input of a stereo set.

(Red) AUDIO R (RCA), to connect to the right audio input of a stereo set.

3. FIRST TIME INSTALLATION

1. Make sure, all connections are made safely.

2. Switch the receiver to ON and wait for the

System setup menu to appear.

3. Select your Menu language and press the

SELECT key.

4. Wait for the Channels setup menu to

appear.

5. Press the red key to start the automatic

channel search.

6. Wait for the Search channels to complete.

7. Press the EXIT key (3x) until live video

shows.

4. OPERATION

Daily use of the receiver is similar to the

operation of your current TV and VCR. Extra

functions are the Electronic Program Guide,

MHEG applications (colour keys), subtitle and

audio language selection.

Every time when you change channels, a so

called InfoBanner appears to give you some

extra information about the program. You can

also call up the information with the i-key.

4.1. NAVIGATION

In the main menu and Guide:

■ the MENU key lets you access to the main

menu or go back one menu level;

■ the EXIT key lets you leave a menu or

selection and return directly to live;

■ the  keys let you scroll up and down

through the selectable items;

■ the  keys let you scroll left and right

through the selectable items;

■ The SELECT key lets you:

- confirm and execute a selection;

- open an option page.

In an option page:

■ the SELECT key lets you confirm the

selection;

■ the cursor shows the active selection.

In live TV or Radio:

■ the SELECT key lets you access the

channel list;

■ the cursor shows the active selection;

■ the page indicator shows when you can

scroll to the next page.

4.2. THE PROGRAM INFORMATION

The InfoBanner has a:

■ The channel information bar, to show the

channel number and name.

■ The service information bar, to show that

additional services are available. These

icons show only if the service is available.

- the icon, to show that the channel is

encrypted (Scrambled);

- the icon, to show that more Subtitle

languages are available;

- the icon, to show that teletext is

available;

- the , ,

icons, to show that

additional audio selections are available;

- the icon, to show that Dolby Digital

sound is available.

■ The program information bar, to show the

program information;

■ Technical channel information as well as a

signal indicator show when you press the

i-key on the remote control unit.

4.3. CHANNEL SELECTION

WHEN YOU WANT TO SELECT ANOTHER CHANNEL:

You can make use of:

■ the P+ and P- keys;

■ the numerical keys;

■ the recall key.

HEN YOU ARE IN A LIST, YOU CAN USE:

You can make use of the  keys.

HEN YOU WANT TO ZAP BETWEEN TV AND

RADIO CHANNELS:

1. Press the SELECT key.

2. Select the channel.

Note that all TV, Radio and MHEG

interactive channels are in one list.

4.4. VOLUME SELECTION

WHEN YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE VOLUME:

You can make use of the V+ and V- keys.

HEN YOU WANT TO SHUT DOWN THE VOLUME:

You can make use of:

■ the V- key;

■ the mute key.

4.5. INTERACTIVE SERVICES

The interactive (MHEG) services make use of

the (colour) keys on your remote control unit.

As every application has its own definition and

function for each key, please refer to the

available on-screen information.

CAUTION

The timer does not start or program your

video cassette recorder (VCR). You also

have to set the timer of your VCR to the

same time as on the timer. Please refer to

the user guide of your VCR how to make a

recording from an external receiver.

5. AERIAL MYTHS

Initially, if you use an existing analogue rooftop

or loft aerial now, often there is no need to buy a

new aerial, provided the aerial is in good

condition.

However, if the current aerial or it’s cabling is in

poor condition which results in unsatisfactorily

reception, you could improve this with a new

aerial suitable for digital terrestrial reception.

You can receive excellent digital TV and Radio:

■ if the service provider delivers enough

signal (level and quality) to your area;

■ if the indoor or outdoor aerial is healthy

(aerial is clean, in good condition and

correctly aimed);

■ if the connection between the aerial and TV

set is healthy (good quality cable, 75 ohm,

no sharp bends or kinks, metal connectors);

You can, in certain situations, improve the

digital TV and Radio reception:

■ if you use an outdoor aerial, which is not

obstructed by the metalwork that is used in

the building construction,

■ if you use an active aerial for situations

where you have a long cable between the

aerial and the receiver.

IF IN DOUBT

Please check with your retailer first in case you

need to upgrade your rooftop or loft aerial.

NOTE

In some parts of the UK, FREEVIEW signals

use a different frequency or transmitter from

your existing analogue service and therefore

it is recommended to fit a so called

“wide band” type of aerial.

6. CLEANING

1. Switch the receiver to OFF.

2. Wait at least five seconds, to help avoid

possible damage to the receiver’s

electronics.

3. Use a dry, soft and clean lint-free cleaning

cloth to clean the receiver.

4. If you need to use a detergent, make a mild-

soap solution. Other cleaning agents can

cause damage to the outside surface.

b. Carefully wipe the surface and make sure

that no moisture gets into the receiver.

c. Let the receiver dry on the air.

WARNING

RECEIVER. MAKE SURE, IF USED, CLEANING

GETTING STARTED

1. UNPACKING

1.1. TO UNPACK YOUR RECEIVER:

When you unpack the contents of the box,

confirm that all the parts are included.

Unpack the contents of the box carefully.

Electronic equipment as receivers are easily

damaged when you handle it roughly. Examine

all parts for damage that may have occurred

during shipment. If you find any damage, stop to

unpack the box and call the shop where you

bought the receiver.

To help avoid possible damage to the receiver’s

electronics, allow the receiver to adapt to the

ambient temperature and humidity level. This to

avoid condensation.

1.2. THE CONTENTS OF THE BOX

The box contains:

■ A receiver;

■ A remote control unit (RCU);

■ A pair of batteries (for the RCU);

■ A set of cables;

■ A set of documentation

■ A Top Up information leaflet or a Top-Up

subscription package.

CAUTION

It is recommended to keep the packaging

materials for a period of time. In case of

warranty claims, we can request to return

the receiver in the original packaging to

protect the electronics. Failing to do so

might void the warranty.

WARNING

2. INSTALL YOUR RECEIVER

2.1. PROGRAM THE RECEIVER

This section assumes that the aerial installation

is completed and operational and your receiver

is connected to your TV.

1. Make sure, all connections are made safely.

2. Switch the receiver to ON and wait for the

System setup menu to appear.

3. Select your Menu language and press the

SELECT key.

4. Press the EXIT key until the Installation

menu shows.

5. Select Channels setup and press the

SELECT key.

6. Press the red key to start the automatic

channel search.

7. Wait for the Search channels to complete.

8. Press the EXIT key until live video shows.

9. Press the SELECT key to access the

channel list.

If there are no channels found, Make sure the

aerial is aimed in the correct direction.

1. Make sure you can receive the terrestrial

services in your neighbourhood.

2. Turn the aerial in the correct direction and use

the signal indicator to find the best signal.

WARNING

ALL EQUIPMENT INVOLVED IN THE INSTALLATION

TASK MUST BE INSTALLED CORRECTLY AND

SWITCHED OFF. MAKE SURE THAT IT IS SAFE TO

PROCEED WITH THE INSTALLATION TASK.

Delete - To delete a channel from the channel list.

Timer Save - To save a timer setting and advance to the next timer.

Save/Exit - To save a timer setting and return to the previous menu.

Return - To quit the timer menu without saving the changes.

Installation System setup Language To set the language you want to use for menu, audio and subtitle.

Connection To configure the output signals.

Menu settings To configure the menu appearance.

Time setting To set the local time.

Power on channel To define the channel that shows at power up.

Software upgrade To start the Software upgrade procedure.

System info To show the receiver and company information.

Mediaguard To show the Mediaguard related information.

Factory reset To delete all personal settings and replace them with the factory defaults.

Antenna setup - To select a passive (Off) or active aerial (On).

Channel setup - To scan for channels automatically or manually.

Parental lock - To lock the menu for unauthorized users.

To change the PIN-code for the receiver, not for the smartcard.

Smart card* System info - To show the smartcard reader information.

Maturity level - To set the maturity level for the scrambled channels.

Password - To set the password for the smartcard, not for the receiver.

Operators - To show the operators which are required for the descramble keys.

Subscriptions - To show the channels to which you have subscribed.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. ELECTRONIC PROGRAM GUIDE (GUIDE)

The key gives access to the Electronic Program Guide from where you can control the timers

and view the program details.

The Electronic Program Guide makes use of the GUIDE and the colour keys on your Remote

Control Unit to allow for quick access to the different functions. The help line shows you which

colour keys are active for the selected Guide pages. When the Guide shows:

■ The (Red) key;

- gives access to the program information of the previous day;

- lets you scroll through the program details of a program (for synopsis only);

- lets you save the timer settings (for timer only).

■ The (Green) key:

- gives access to the program information of the next day, if available from the service provider,

which can be available for a few hours up until 7 days in advance;

- lets you save the timer settings and leave the timer menu (for timer only).

■ The (Yellow) key:

- gives access to the program details of the current program;

- lets you return to the main Guide (for synopsis and timer only).

■ The (Blue) key gives access to the Guide-supported timers.

NOTE

Most digital channels broadcast program data as an Electronic Program Guide. Digital channels

that broadcast a guide offer you program information in advance for a certain period of time.

The Guide is not always available. Sometimes the service provider supplies only the program

name, the now/next information or sometimes nothing at all. EchoStar has no influence on this

matter.

CAUTION

The timer does not start or program your video cassette recorder (VCR). You also have to set

the timer of your VCR to the same time as on the timer. Please refer to the user guide of your

2. TIMERS

CAUTION

The timer does not start or program your video cassette recorder (VCR). You also have to set

the timer of your VCR to the same time as on the timer. Please refer to the user guide of your

VCR how to make a recording from an external receiver.

NOTE

You can not set a timer in the past.

ONTO AN GUIDE EVENT:

1. Press the GUIDE key.

2. Press the blue key.

3. Review the timer settings as

retrieved from the Guide.

4. If required, change the

settings.

5. Press the green key to

confirm and leave the timer.

IF YOU WANT TO SET A TIMER

WHEN THERE IS NO GUIDE:

2. Select the Timer option.

3. Press the SELECT key.

4. Select a free timer.

5. Select Status = Enabled.

6. Select Action = Time interval.

7. Make the required settings.

IF YOU WANT TO DO A FACTORY

RESET:

1. Press the MENU key.

2. Select Installation - System

setup - Factory reset.

3. Press the SELECT key to

confirm.

4. Press the SELECT key to

start the factory reset.

5. Wait for the System setup

menu to appear.

6. Select your Menu language

and press the SELECT key.

7. Wait for the Channels setup

menu to appear.

8. Press the red key to start

the automatic channel

search.

9. Wait for the Search

channels to complete.

10.Press the EXIT key until live

video shows.

F YOU WANT TO ADD A NEW

CHANNEL:

1. Press the MENU key.

2. Select Installation -

Channels setup.

3. Press the red key to start

the automatic channel

search.

4. Wait for the Search

channels to complete which

will add the new channels.

F YOU WANT TO DELETE A

CHANNEL:

1. Press the MENU key.

2. Select Channel organizer

and press the SELECT key.

3. Select the channel that you

want to delete.

4. Press the green key to

confirm.

2. Select Channel organizer

and press the SELECT key.

3. Press the red key to reveal

the sort options.

4. Use the colour keys sort:

red: by name,

green: by channel number,

yellow: by FTA/scrambled,

blue: by transponder.

5. Press the EXIT key until live

F YOU WANT TO SET THE LOCAL

TIME:

1. Press the MENU key.

2. Select Installation - System

setup - Time settings.

3. Press the SELECT key.

4. Select GMT usage.

5. Press the SELECT key.

6. Select OFF for manual time

Select ON for GMT time.

If you use GMT time:

a. Select Time zone.

b. Press the SELECT key.

c. Select you local GMT

offset.

If you use local time:

a. Select Adjust time.

b. Press the left key.

c. Use the numerical keys

to set the correct time.

d. Press the SELECT key to

confirm.

e. Select Date.

f. Press the left key.

g. Use the numerical keys

to set the correct date.

h. Press the SELECT key to

confirm.

7. Press the EXIT key until live

4. THE MAIN MENU STRUCTURE

The main menu has a tree structure where each sub-menu has one or

more option pages. Each sub-menu allows you to customise the settings

to match your installation and preferences. Note that the menu contains

dynamic pages which means that options are, or are not available

depending on the selections you make.

The key gives access to the main menu, that gives you control over

the settings in the Installation menu, the User data menu and the

Information menu.

■ Sort To sort the channel list.

red: by name,

green: by number (channel number),

yellow: by Type (FTA/scrambled),

blue: by TP (transponder).

■ Delete To delete a channel from the channel list.

■ Current hour Shows the current time.

■ Current date Shows the current date.

■ Timer number Shows the timer number (1 to 8).

■ Status To activate or de-activate a timer.

■ Action To set a wake-up (Power On, sleep (Power Off)

or normal (Time interval) timer.

■ Repetition To set the timer, once or repeat for every

occurrence.

■ Date To set the start date for the timer.

■ Hour To set the start time for the timer.

■ End time To set the stop time for the timer.

■ Channel To select the channel that you want to record

from.

■ colour keys red; to save the timer and advance to the next;

green; to save the timer and leave the menu;

yellow; to leave the timer menu without saving.

4.3. INSTALLATION - SYSTEM SETUP

LANGUAGE

CONNECTION

Menu To set the language you want to use in the

menus.

■ Language 1 To set the language for programs with multi-

lingual audio.

For multi-lingual programs, if available, you can

choose your own language. The receiver will first

look for the 1st selected language, if not

available, for the 2nd. If the two selected

languages are not transmitted, audio is given in

the native language of that channel.

■ Language 2

NOTE

You can override the selection per channel with use of the alternative

audio and subtitle key on the RCU.

■ TV mode To set the video format supported by your TV.

■ Video output To set the video signal type, If you use a SCART

connection, select RGB for the best quality.

■ TV format To set the image size for the TV.

If you have a TV with a 4:3 screen size and the

transmission is in 16:9 format, you can select

either 4:3 or 16:9.

4:3 shows the full screen completely where

some of the image sides is cut off, 16:9 will show

the full image with black top and bottom banners.

■ Audio output Not used.

■ SPDIF output To tell the receiver that it is connected to a

Dolby Digital amplifier or not. When you have

selected On, note that analogueaudio is not

given to the TV, so no audio is heard. If you want

to listen through the TV audio, select Off.

Color scheme To set the menu colours.

■ Transparency To set the menu transparency level.

■ Brightness To set the menu brightness.

■ Duration When you change to another channel, the

InfoBanner shows momentarily. With this option

you can set the view time for the InfoBanner.

■ GMT usage* To select internal (Off) or GMT-supported (On)

clock.

■ Time zone* To select the time offset with respect to GMT.

GMT= +0 hours

Daylight saving time = +1 hour.

■ Adjust time* To set the current time.

■ Date* To set the current Date.

NOTE

The time shown in the Local time field offers you a possibility to check

for the correct time. Guide and timers will not operate correctly if the

Local time not set correctly.

■ Last channel Shows the last selected channel at power up.

■ Defined channel To define the channel that shows at power up.

Upgrade red; to start the OTA software upgrade

procedure.

If a new software version is found, the receiver

starts to download the new software version in

temporary memory. When the download is

complete, the new software version is written to

the receiver memory where it deletes the

previous version.

This process can take up to approximately

30 minutes.

■ green; to start a manual search for the

availability of software upgrades.

■ Model Shows the model number.

■ Boot version Shows the current boot version.

■ Company Shows the Company name.

■ Address Shows the visit address of EchoStar.

■ Website Shows the EchoStar Internet site.

■ Serial number Shows the receiver serial number.

■ Libraries Shows the library data that is used by the

smartcard reader.

factory defaults (out-of-the-box).

■ Cancel Leaves the factory reset procedure without any

changes.
