PREFACE
INTRODUCTION
The EchoStar User Interface is a family of user interfaces which are dedicated for a specific
range of satellite receivers. Every satellite receiver is equipped with different options. Some
options are related to the EchoStar User Interface, others are related to physical options as
Common Interface slots, Embedded reader, display or not, etc.
Please note that this user manual contains the information for the most comprehensive
model. Sometimes you find that an option is not available on your receiver which means that
you can ignore the related descriptions and instructions. Please refer to the specifications of
your receiver to find the available options that are present in your model.
DOCUMENTATION
This user manual is part of the documentation set that comes with your EchoStar satellite
receiver. The documentation set contains the user manuals:
User Manual - Receiver Description;
User Manual - EchoStar User Interface - Fixed.
Sometimes you can also find a Manual update which describes the last minute changes to
either the receiver itself or the EchoStar User Interface which are not described in the user
manuals that come with your EchoStar satellite receiver.
INTENDED USE
The receiver is intended to be installed for private domestic use. This receiver has not been
designed for other types of usage (including but not limited to commercial or head-end
installations), therefore EchoStar International Corporation makes no warranties with respect
to product performance or reliability in such installations.
This documentation set is intended for anyone who uses an EchoStar satellite receiver. It can
be used by both first-time and experienced users of satellite receivers who want to install, use
and maintain their receiver.
This user manual gives an explanation and an instruction on the use of the EchoStar user
interface and is divided into separate sections and chapters. For easy access to the
information, a clear table of content and an index are provided.
LIMITED WARRANTY
If your receiver has conditional access capabilities:
For pay-services, please only use Common Interface (CI) modules and the related Smartcard
which are approved by the service provider of the encrypted program you want to receive.
Only this will enable the receiver to work properly.
Anomalies can occur when an unapproved CI-module and/or Smartcard is used. EchoStar
can not and will not accept any responsibility for the performance of such CI-modules and/or
smartcards. If you use an unapproved CI-module and/or Smartcard, EchoStar is no longer
able to provide any assistance or support. Use of an unapproved CI-module and/or
Smartcard will void any warranty claim. If you have any doubt which CI-modules are
approved, please ask your service provider for assistance.

INIT IAL INST ALLATIO N
1. INTRODUCTION
The satellite receiver is pre-programmed with the FTA channels for ASTRA1 and HOTBIRD
as know during the manufacturing of the receiver. Note that it is possible to update the
channel lists easily, for a detailed instruction, please refer to installation update. The pre-
programmed channels are only for use in a single fixed dish installation with a so called
universal LNB. If your installation is different some extra programming needs to be done. For
a detailed instruction, please refer to the Guided setup.
2. NAVIGATION
The EchoStar User Interface has various ways to navigate through the menus and functions.
Some of the keys on the remote control unit give direct access to functions. Important keys
are identified as EPG, colored keys, MENU, OK and EXIT. Other keys are multi-functional
which means that their function can change with the selections you make.
3. TO INSTALL YOUR RECEIVER FOR THE FIRST TIME
This section assumes that the dish installation is completed and operational and your
receiver is connected to your TV and other equipment with suitable cables. Note that your
receiver is pre-programmed for a fixed dish installation with a universal LNBF. If you have
another dish installation (multiple LNBs or motorized), additional settings are required.
NOTE
Unless otherwise specified; this note explains the navigation through the menus and
functions.
In the main, user and EPG menu:
1. the MENU key lets you access to the main menu or go back one menu level;
2. the EXIT key lets you leave a menu or selection and return directly to live;
3. the keys let you scroll up and down through the selectable items;
4. the keys let you scroll left and right through the selectable items;
5. The OK key lets you:
- confirm and execute a selection;
- open a pull-down menu.
In a pull-down menu:
1. the OK key lets you confirm the selection;
2. the highlighted cursor indicates the active selection.
NOTE
For receivers that are connected with an UHF cable, make sure that the TV is set to
UHF channel 38 (607.25Mhz). If the channel number on the TV and receiver are not
the same, you will have a distorted or no image at all.
For more information, please refer to the user manual of the TV.
NOTE
For receivers that are connected with a SVHS cable, make sure that the audio to the
TV is connected with either the S/PDIF or the AUDIO L/R connector.
For more information, please refer to the user manual of the TV/VCR.
NOTE
From the next step onwards, the procedure is divided in different installation
procedures. The given procedures are; Fixed, Multiple LNBs, DiSEqC1.2 and GoTo X.
Fixed means install a single dish with an Universal LNB;
Multiple LNBs means install a dish with multiple LNBs or multiple dishes;
DiSEqC1.2 means install a moveable dish according the DiSEqC1.2 spec;
GoTo X means install a moveable dish that is GoTo X compatible.

To select Yes / No before you actually start the download action.
If you select Yes and the software version is the same as the
current software, you are asked if you want to continue.
If you select No, the download starts automatically and the
software version is written to the receiver memory where it
deletes the current installed version.
Start Starts the Software upgrade procedure.
If a new software version is found on the satellite, the receiver
starts to download the new software version in temporary
memory. When the download is complete, the new software
version is written to the receiver memory where it deletes the
previous version. This process can take up to approximately
30 minutes. The Software upgrade is completed when the
receiver restarts and returns with live video.
Check OTA (green) To look on the satellite if new software is available for download.
Signal indicator To show the signal level and quality of the download signal. If
you have a poor reception due to weather conditions, please try
later.
Delete settings To delete all channels from the channel and favorite lists.
Difference with the Full reset is that all installation settings are
kept.
Delete settings It is advised to write down the most important settings before
you confirm the Factory reset (e.g. Switch and Port settings,
LNBs, User data, etc.).
The receiver deletes all user defined settings, channels, timers
and (favorite) lists and replace them with the factory defaults
and pre-programmed channel lists.
Delete settings To delete all channels from the channel and favorite lists as well
as the installation settings.
The receiver automatically deletes all settings and starts with
the Guided setup.

GMT* Shows the time-offset as a result of the time zone selection.

4. THE EPG MENU STRUCTURE
The key gives access to the EPG menu, that helps you to control the timers and to view
the information in the Electronic Program Guide (EPG).
The EPG menu makes use of the EPG, i-key and the color keys on your Remote Control Unit
(RCU) to allow for quick access to the different EPG and timer functions. When the EPG
menu shows:
The (Red) key gives access to the timers.
The (Green) key gives, if available from the service provider, access to the scheduled
program information which can be available for a few hours up until 14 days in advance.
The key gives, if available from the service provider, access to the detailed program
information of the current selected program. Sometimes the information is not directly
available, if necessary allow the receiver to collect the detailed program information.
NOTE
Most digital channels broadcast program data as an EPG. Digital channels that
broadcast EPG offer you program information in advance for a certain period of time.
The EPG information is not always available. Sometimes the service provider supplies
only the program name, the now/next information or sometimes nothing at all. EchoStar
has no influence on this matter.
CAUTION
Note that the timer does not start or program your video recorder (VCR). You have to
set the timer of your VCR also to the same time as on the receiver. Please refer to the
user’s guide of your VCR how to record from a satellite receiver.
On quite a lot of VCRs you have to select the so called external channel (E1).
