This document describes the features that have been added in this update.

In order to fully understand the M-380’s new features, please read this document together with the Owner’s Manual for the M-380.

DCA group assign

This displays the assignments for the selected DCA groups.

Pressing [ENTER] lets you switch an assignment to a DCA group on or off.

SOLO button

This switches SOLO for a DCA group on or off.

MUTE button

This switches MUTE for a DCA group on or off.

Fader

This adjusts the level of a DCA group within a range of -Inf dB to +10 dB.

Accessing the CHANNEL DISPLAY screen for DCA groups

1. At the GROUP section, press [DCA].

The DCA GROUP screen appears.

Button Function

[ F2 (NAME EDIT) ] Displays the NAME EDIT popup.

[ F7 (CLEAR ALL) ] Switches off all assignments to DCA groups.

2. Move the cursor to the target DCA group, then press [F1 (CH DISP)].

The CHANNEL DISPLAY screen appears.

When DCA groups have been assigned to user fader layers, pressing [SEL] for a fader module where a DCA group has

been assigned lets you access the CHANNEL DISPLAY screen.

When DCA groups have been assigned to user fader layers, the DCA group assignments can be checked at the METER screen (LAYER VIEW tab).

DCA group assign

This displays a view of all DCA group assignments.

Pressing [ENTER] displays the DCA GROUP ASSIGN popup.

S button

This switches SOLO for a DCA group on or off.

M button

This switches MUTE for a DCA group on or off.

Fader

This adjusts the level of a DCA group within a range of -Inf dB to +10 dB.

METER screen (LAYER VIEW tab)

Functionality added in version 1.32

• A dimmer function has been added.

• Operations from the LEVEL knobs in the top panel's MONITOR section can be prohibited.

This is useful when you want to want to keep the monitor level unchanged during use.

MONITOR LEVEL CONTROL selection button

This lets you select either of the following as the operation performed by the monitor level.

MONITOR LEVEL

This adjusts the monitor level within a range of -Inf to 10 dB.

(Operation is possible only when SCREEN has been selected using the MONITOR LEVEL CONTROL selection button.)

DIMMER LEVEL

This adjusts the dimmer level within a range of -Inf to 0.0 dB.

TALKBACK DIMMER button

Selecting this check box interlinks on/off switching of the dimmer function with on/off switching of talkback.

When SCREEN has been selected using the MONITOR LEVEL CONTROL selection button, the fader for the MONITOR

meter on the METER screen can also be used to adjust the monitor level.

The dimmer function lowers the monitor signal output to MONITOR OUT L/R by the amount set using DIMMER level.

It is also possible to interlink on/off switching of the dimmer function with on/off switching of talkback.

The dimmer function has no effect on PHONES OUT (headphones output).

Using the dimmer function

1. At the top panel's MONITOR section, press [DISP].

The MONITOR screen appears.

2. Press [F4 (DIMMER)] to switch on the dimmer function.

The functioning of the DIMMER button can be assigned to a user button.

You can setup the preamp gain of the input jacks directly.

It is useful when an input jack is not patched to M-480’s input channel, but is a split source used for a multi-channel recording system.

1. Access the PATCHBAY screen.

2. Press [F1 (INPUT)] to access the INPUT tab.

3. Press [F3 (REAC A)], [F4 (REAC B)], or [F5 (CONSOLE)] to select the desired location for the input jack.

4. Press [F7 (PREAMP EDIT)] to access the PREAMP EDIT popup.

The PREAMP EDIT popup will appear.

Device indication

This indicates the input/output unit or the M-480 itself that is the target of the PREAMP EDIT popup.

Preamp

Here you can setup the preamps.

Input number

This indicates the input jack number.

Channel name

If the input jack is patched to the M-480’s input channel, this indicates the name of the input channel to which the input jack is patched.

If the input jack is patched to more than one channel, the name of the lowest number channel is shown.

Level meter

This indicates the input level.

+48V buttons

This turns the +48V phantom power on/off.

New functionality for patchbay

PREAMP EDIT popup

Functionality added in version 1.32

You must turn the phantom power off if you’ve connected equipment that does not require +48V phantom power. Mistakenly supplying phantom

power to a dynamic microphone, audio playback device, or any other device that does not require phantom power will cause malfunctions. Carefully

read the owner’s manual for your microphone or other device, and make sure of its specifications.

Since noise will be produced when you switch the phantom power setting, the output of the channel whose setting

you change will be briefly muted.

PAD button

This switches the pad on/off. Turning this on will lower the input sensitivity of the preamp by 20 dB.

Since noise will be produced when you switch the pad setting, the output of the channel whose setting you change

will be briefly muted.

GAIN knob

This adjusts the preamp gain in a range of -65 dBu– -10 dBu (if PAD is on, a range of -45 dBu– +10 dBu).

The preamp gain is not a continuous control, it is digital with stepped control. In certain situations artifact noise may occur when changing preamp

gain. This is normal.

For the following cases, the preamp area will not show +48 button, PAD button, and GAIN knob:

• Digital input (the SI-AES4 for example).

• When the REAC port is REAC split.

5. Move cursor to the desired input jack.

6. Use the +48V button, PAD button and GAIN knob to setup the preamp.

7. Press [F8 (CLOSE)] to close the popup.

Functionality added in version 1.32

• The M-380 can be set to always boot in GUEST mode regardless of the previous settings.

• You can edit the user level to prohibit more operations.

You can make the unit always start with Guest Mode when the power is turned on.

1. Call up the USER screen.

Press the [DISP] button in USER section to call up the USER screen.

2. Change the setting

Check the [Startup as GUEST] box. While this is checked, the unit always starts up with guest mode.

You can edit the User Level in order to prohibit the specified operations.

* If you are operating the unit with ADMIN and desire to set user level with current user preference, create a new user setting according to the

steps below.

* It is not possible to prohibit any operations for the ADMIN user.

Creating a New User Setting that Takes Over the Current User Setting

1. Connect a USB memory.

Connect a USB memory device to the USB MEMORY port of the M-380.

2. Call up the USER screen.

Press the [DISP] button in USER section to call up the USER screen.

3. Call up the CREATE NEW USER popup.

Press [F2 (CREATE USER)] to call the CREATE NEW USER popup.

4. Edit the user name.

Edit the user name in USER NAME field.

5. Make it to copy the current settings.

Check the [Copy current user settings] box and make the unit to copy current user settings to the new one.

6. Create a new user setting.

Press [F8 (CREATE)] to create a setting. A new user with the same settings as the current user will be created in the USB memory.

7. Enable the new user setting.

Select the newly created user setting in user list and press [F1 (CHANGE USER)]. The user setting will become active.

Prohibiting Specified Operations

1. Call up the USER screen.

Press the [DISP] button in USER section to call up the USER screen.

2. Call up the USER LEVEL popup.

Select the target user setting in user list and press [F5 (USER LEVEL)]. The USER LEVEL popup will be called up.

3. Display the PANEL tab.

Press [F5 (PANEL)] to display the PANEL tab.

Specify the operation to prohibit on this panel tab.

4. Close the popup.

Press [F8 (OK)] to finalize the settings of USER LEVEL and close the popup.

AUX13-16/MTX LAYER This prohibits switching to AUX13-16/MTX LAYER.

AUX1-12 LAYER This prohibits switching to AUX1-12 LAYER.

CH37-48 LAYER This prohibits switching to CH37-48 LAYER.

CH25-36 LAYER This prohibits switching to CH25-36 LAYER.

CH13-24 LAYER This prohibits switching to CH13-24 LAYER.

CH1-12 LAYER This prohibits switching to CH1-12 LAYER.

USER LAYER 6 This prohibits switching to USER LAYER 6.

USER LAYER 5 This prohibits switching to USER LAYER 5.

USER LAYER 4 This prohibits switching to USER LAYER 4.

USER LAYER 3 This prohibits switching to USER LAYER 3.

USER LAYER 2 This prohibits switching to USER LAYER 2.

The SYSTEM screen appears.

2. At the MAIN OPTION selection buttons, select the check box for Mutually Exclusive LR/C Assign.

Exclusion control is performed for sends to MAIN L/R and MAIN C.

A function has been added that automatically applies the channel names on the M-380 to the track names on the R-1000 when an R-1000 48-track recorder/

player is connected via REAC and the M-380 is used as a recording source.

This function does not work when the version of the R-1000's system program is earlier than 1.100.

1. Display the R-1000 CONTROL popup.

2. At PREFERENCE, select the Name sync check box.

When recording is performed on the R-1000, the channel names on the M-380 used as the recording source are applied to the track names on the R-1000.

The following rules are used to assign the track names according to the settings for the recording-use INPUT patchbay on the R-1000 (the input connector

assigned to the recording track) and the M-380's patchbay settings.

Saving/Loading

The M-400/M-380 project files saved in version 1.2 or later can be loaded into M-480, M-400, M-380, M-300 or M-200i.

User Settings

● “MAIN FADER” option has been added to the USER PREFERENCE popup.

If you check “SENDS ON FADER MASTER”, the MAIN fader becomes the send-destination AUX master fader, while the SENDS ON FADER mode is on.

● “SYSTEM SETUP” in the USER LEVEL popup also disables S-4000M CONFIGURATION operation.

● [F6 (PREV FADER)] and [F7 (NEXT FADER)] have been added to the USER FADER ASSIGN popup.

● The Auto MDI/MDI-X function has been added.

This function automatically detects the type of the connected Ethernet cable (Crossover or Straight) and configures the connection appropriately.

By enabling this, both Crossover and Straight Ethernet cable can be supported for REAC connection.

1. In the SETUP section, hold down [SYSTEM] and turn the power on.

The SYSTEM CONFIG screen will appear.

2. Press [F4 (REAC)].

The REAC popup will appear.

3. Press [ENTER] to check “Auto MDI/MDI-X”.

4. Press [F8 (OK)].

5. Turn off the power.

By designating an M-48 located beside the engineer as the Engineer’s Monitor, he/she can monitor and control the mix of any musician’s M-48 unit from the

Engineer’s Monitor.

You cannot use the Engineer’s Monitor function if the system program version of the M-48 is prior to 1.01.

On the Engineer’s Monitor, you cannot monitor the AUX IN or the AMBIENT MIC on the musician’s side.

Using the Engineer’s Monitor function with the M-48 Personal Mixing System

1. Press [MONITOR] to access the MONITOR screen.

2. Press [F8 (M-48 MANAGER)] to access the M-48

MANAGER popup.

3. In the M-48 list, move the cursor to the desired M-48 unit

and press [F8 (SET AS ENG MON)].

A message will ask you to confirm the operation.

4. Press [F8 (SET)] to specify the selected M-48 unit as the

Engineer’s Monitor.

5. To monitor a musician’s mix, select the corresponding M-

48 unit in the M-380’s screen.

6. You can also control the musician’s group mix from the

Engineer’s Monitor.

To control the musician’s mix from the Engineer’s Monitor, the

MONITOR-ONLY select button on the M-48 ENGINEER’S MONITOR SETUP

popup must be cleared.

The solo function on the M-48 works independently on the musician’s

side and engineer’s side. Therefore, solo operation on engineer’s side

does not affect the musician’s side.

The M-48 unit specified as the Engineer’s Monitor will be registered to

the M-380’s system settings, and it can be saved to the M-380’s project

file. When you initialize the M-380’s system settings, the Engineer’s

Monitor setting will be cleared. You can load the Engineer’s Monitor

settings by loading the system settings from the M-380’s project file you

saved.

The following knobs work independently on the engineer’s side and

musician’s side. The position of each knob on the musician’s side are

displayed on the M-48 SETUP popup:

• [AUX IN] knob

• [AMBIENT MIC] knob

• LINE OUT [VOLUME] knob

• [BASS] knob, [TREBLE] knob

• [LIMITER] knob

• PHONES [VOLUME] knob
