1 Safety instructions
Basic information
The UPS device has left our plant in a perfectly safe state. In order to maintain this safe state and
assure safe operations the user must observe all instructions and warnings contained in these
operating instructions.
Only qualified electricians may work on the electrical installations at any time. They must be able to
assess the jobs they are assigned, recognise potential sources of danger, and implement suitable
safety measures.
Conversions and modifications are permitted only after consultation with and the approval of the
manufacturer. Your safety is assured only by original replacement parts and accessories approved
by the manufacturer. Our liability becomes null and void when other parts are used.
The delivered UPS device operates reliably only when it is used for its designated purpose. The
thresholds listed in the specifications may not be exceeded under any circumstances (see the
respective sections in the operating instructions).
Rules and regulations pertaining to safety
The installation, commissioning, maintenance, and testing of the UPS device must observe the
safety and accident prevention regulations pertaining to the specific application.
This also extends to all standards and regulations applying to the operating site and in particular
the following rules (here only some examples):
VDE rules
- DIN EN 418
machine safety
emergency stop facility, functional aspects
- DIN EN 60204-1 / VDE 0113-1
electrical installations with electrical equipment
Explanation of danger warnings
These operating instructions use the following symbols that are important for proper and safe
operations with the UPS devices.
The meaning of each symbol is as follows.
DANGER
This means that there is danger to the user’s life or health when the specified
precautionary measures are not implemented.
IMPORT
A
NT
This warns of potential damage to the device when the specified precautionary
measures are not implemented.

General warnings and safety precautions
The following warnings must be interpreted as general guidelines on how to handle the UPS
devices in conjunction with controllers and the ELEKTROMATEN
®
. You must heed these warnings
without fail when installing and operating the devices.
The UPS device may be operated by qualified electricians only. The operating
instructions from the manufacturer must be observed.
The supply line to the UPS device must have a PE. The UPS device may also
be under voltage during mains failure.
There are hazardous voltages inside the UPS device. Any and all repair work
must be performed exclusively by qualified electricians. The battery circuit
must be disconnected before all maintenance and servicing work.
In the event of mains failure (battery mode) the power supply cable may not
under any circumstances be disconnected from the UPS device.
The UPS device and the power sockets must allow easy access.
Whenever the door drive has to be shut down or in the event of danger the
mains supply must be disconnected and the OFF key pressed on the UPS
device.
Replaced batteries fall under the hazardous waste laws and must be disposed
of accordingly. Do not use batteries during a fire: they may explode. Do not
open or damage the batteries: the electrolyte is harmful to skin and eyes.
A battery may pose a risk in the form of current surges and high short-circuit
currents.
When handling batteries you must observe the following precautionary measures:
Take off watches, rings, and other metal objects,
Use tools with insulated handles.
The pertinent rules and regulations must be observed on doors for escape routes.

2 General description
The UPS device safeguards the uninterrupted supply of electrical energy to a connected
alternating current ELEKTROMATEN
®
when mains power fails.
The sheet steel enclosure serves as mechanical protection and exhibits slits for optimal ventilation.
The provided mounting lugs make sure that the device is secured properly to a wall. The
connectors are CEE plugs. In backup mode the ELEKTROMATEN
®
can therefore be used to open
the door.

4 Description of the UPS device
The UPS device detects a voltage failure and switches directly to backup mode. It is fitted with
backup batteries (2 x 12V or 3 x 12V) that can bypass a power failure provided that the utilised
capacity does not exceed the max threshold. The batteries are constantly charged when they are
connected to the mains supply. After six to eight hours the batteries are fully charged and on
standby. We recommend replacing the batteries every two years.
As soon as the UPS device has been fully installed the control panel can be connected. The
control panel must have a 16 A CEE plug connector. The size of the drive must correspond to the
UPS delivery. Note the prescribed device layout.

5.1 Installation requirements
The installation of the UPS device must take into account the following specifications and
requirements.
1. When fitting make sure that the UPS is not exposed to direct sunlight or other heat sources.
The sheet steel enclosure is installed on a vertical wall at a height of 1.5 m.
2. The ambient temperature must be no lower than 0°C and no higher than +40°C.
3. The air humidity must be less than 90%.
4. Avoid installations in dusty rooms (protection class IP23). No liquids and no foreign bodies may
enter the UPS.
5. The cable connecting the UPS to the ELEKTROMATEN
®
may not be longer than 10m.
5.2 Installing the UPS device
5.2.1 Contents of delivery and transport
Examine the UPS device immediately on receipt. The UPS device and the sheet steel enclosure
are delivered in separate packaging. This packaging is recyclable and adequate for the safe
transport of the UPS under normal conditions. We therefore recommend that you keep this
packaging for future transports. Otherwise this must be disposed of in a suitable manner.
5.2.2 Installing
The device is installed in two steps.
1. First secure the empty sheet steel enclosure to the wall.
2. Afterwards insert the UPS device in the sheet steel enclosure. The rubber feet under the
UPS device prevent it from slipping around in the sheet steel enclosure.
5.2.3 Connecting
The sheet steel enclosure is delivered with plugs and cables. So that the UPS device cannot be
installed incorrectly it features non-interchangeable plug connectors. To simplify connection push
the UPS device to the left inside the sheet steel enclosure. The arrangement of plug connectors is
depicted under Section 4.2.
For the power supply a three-pin (1/N/PE) CEE socket must be installed with a 10A slow mains
fuse (not provided) directly next to the UPS device.
