3 TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The fan is used to produce a required air volume at a specific pressure
that corresponds to the pressure losses of the duct system connect-
ed to the fan. This is achieved with a rotating impeller. The fan unit is
hinged onto the bottom plate so it can be tilted open for cleaning.
3.1 APPLICATIONS
Roof fans are designed to be used for the extraction of exhaust air. Do
not run the fan at a higher rotational speed than that specified in the
technical manual.
3.2 MOTORS
Below is a list of the motor types used in our different fans.
1 IMPORTANT INFORMATION

4 TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE
4.1 DELIVERY INSPECTION
Immediately upon receiving the fan, inspect it for damage that may
have occurred during transport. If you detect any damage caused in
transport, please contact the company responsible for transportation
without delay.
Check the fan specifications on the rating plate.
Proper procedures must be followed when transporting the product.
Inappropriate conditions may seriously damage the product.
4.2 TRANSPORT SAFETY
Transport equipment should be selected based on the package and
product weight. Loading must be performed according to instructions.
4.3 INTERMEDIATE STORAGE
If the fan is stored before use or between use, please take note of the
following:
- The original packaging should be used when storing the product;
additional protection may be used.
- The storage environment should be dry and dust free, and the
humidity must not exceed 70%.
- The storage temperature should be between -25 °C and +60 °C.
The appropriate instructions should be reviewed thoroughly before
commissioning.
4.4 LIFTING THE FAN
Ensure that a safe lifting method is used. The fans’ masses are listed
in section 5.3 (Installation of roof fan) and on the fan’s machine label.
5 INSTALLATION
The fan should be installed on the BOGA roof curb or on a chimney
built on site using a mounting frame.
5.1 SAFETY REGULATIONS
The fan meets the CE marking requirements. The fan must be installed
according to ENISO12100:2010.
Electrical installation should be performed by
authorized personnel only.
Power is to be isolated at the main switch
5 minutes before carrying out any electrical
installation or product repairs. Sudden start-ups

5.4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
NOTE REGARDING CONNECTIONS
- The necessary electrical and general safety measures are to be
observed.
- If the motor is controlled by a frequency converter, the connections
must be made in accordance with the converter manufacturer’s
instructions. Take the fire mode into account (STEF-HT).
- Setting of parameters: see the converter manufacturer’s instructions.
- The motor must be earthed.
- In converter use, the maximum length of the power supply cable is
50 m (STEF-HT).
- A supply disconnect switch must be installed on the power supply
cable.
- The fan must always be equipped with a safety switch.
- The safety switch provided with the roof fan should be installed
near the roof fan. The safety switch also acts as a power supply
connection point.
- The motor must be protected by either the converter motor
protection or a motor protection switch.
- The supply voltage should match the voltage specified on the roof
fan’s machine label and wiring diagrams.
- The power supply cable and front fuses must be dimensioned to
conform to local regulations.
- The motor cable must be fire resistant (STEF-HT) of the installation
space requires it.
- If the plug in fuse for a small direct-drive three-phase motor (<0.55
kW) is dimensioned close to the rated current, there is a risk that a
fuse will blow on start-up and the motor will run in two phases. As a
consequence the motor will burn out. The current to the motor must
not vary so much as to trip the motor protection in this situation. The
fuse must be made larger or a three-phase circuit breaker must be
used.
- The thermistors of the ATEX motor must be connected to an
independently operating thermistor relay which will reliably cuts the
power supply to the motor in accordance with Section 1.5.1 of Annex
II (Essential health and safety requirements) to the ATEX Directive
2014/34/EU. Local installation regulations may allow thermistors to
be connected to devices other than thermistor relays, such as drive
control inputs.
- If the safety switch is installed in an ATEX space, it must be ATEX-
rated.
5.4.1 THE FAN IS EQUIPPED WITH A SAFETY SWITCH
1. Mount the safety switch in a suitable location (the mounting plate
supplied with the STEF-HT must be used, especially if the safety
switch is mounted on the fan casing or other surface that heats up
in the event of a fire); bear in mind opening the fan for maintenance.
2. Open the cover of the safety switch.
3. Thread the flexible power supply cable through the lead-in of the
safety switch. Save enough cable so that the fan section can be
opened during maintenance.

6 COMMISSIONING
6.1 SAFETY INSPECTION
Prior to start-up check that there are no loose or foreign objects in the
fan or duct system. Also check also that the fan has been installed
according to instructions. All the required protective equipment should
be installed.
The fan may only be commissioned once the appropriate instructions
have been followed and inspections have been performed.
6.2 TEST RUN
Run the fan briefly to check that the direction of rotation is correct
and that the fan wheel rotates freely. If this is the case, the fan can be
switched on. Also check for abnormal mechanical noise from the fan,
and that the fan is firmly mounted.
7 MAINTENANCE
7.1 ATEX FAN
The non-sparking version (ATEX) must be checked at least twice a
year (impeller and motor) for possible
problems. If necessary, the impeller/motor must be cleaned/replaced.
7.2 FLUE GAS FAN
The operation of the flue gas fan is to be checked in accordance with
local regulations. However, it should be verified at least every 6 months
by starting the fan and ensuring its trouble-free operation. If the fan
is also used for normal ventilation, the operation of the fan and the
need for cleaning (with any accessories) must be checked more often,
taking into operating conditions into account. Motor replacement is
recommended after 20,000 operating hours.
7.3 GUARANTEE
This guarantee is granted on condition that installation has been
carried out correctly and that the required maintenance has been
performed accordingly. Faults covered by the guarantee should be
reported to the manufacturer or importer immediately. The guarantee
does not cover maintenance operations or indirect costs.
7.4 MAINTENANCE
Power is to be isolated at the main switch
5 minutes before carrying out maintenance
operations. Sudden start-ups should be
prevented.
Make sure that fans that have been opened for
maintenance cannot fall closed.
7.4.1 CLEANING THE FAN WHEEL, MOTOR AND CASING
1. Disconnect the power supply to the fan at the safety switch and wait
at least 5 minutes.

8 AIRFLOW MEASUREMENT (STEF-HT)
The STEF-HT roof fan can measure airflow as standard. Airflow
measurement is taken using a manometer as a differential pressure
measurement. The measuring connections are located on the outer
casing of the roof fan and marked with +/-. A manometer or a separate
measuring device can be connected to the measuring connections. The
accuracy of airflow measurement is ± 10%.
To obtain the airflow corresponding to the differential pressure
measurement with an air density of 1.2kg/m³, the following formula is
used:
q
v
= airflow [m

/s]
k = fan-specific constant
Δp
m
= differential pressure measurement [Pa]
The fan-specific values for k can be found on the rating plate next to
the measuring connections and in the table below. The values apply
