5.4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
NOTE REGARDING CONNECTIONS
- The necessary electrical and general safety measures are to be
observed.
- If the motor is controlled by a frequency converter, the connections
must be made in accordance with the converter manufacturer’s
instructions. Take the fire mode into account (STEF-HT).
- Setting of parameters: see the converter manufacturer’s instructions.
- The motor must be earthed.
- In converter use, the maximum length of the power supply cable is
50 m (STEF-HT).
- A supply disconnect switch must be installed on the power supply
cable.
- The fan must always be equipped with a safety switch.
- The safety switch provided with the roof fan should be installed
near the roof fan. The safety switch also acts as a power supply
connection point.
- The motor must be protected by either the converter motor
protection or a motor protection switch.
- The supply voltage should match the voltage specified on the roof
fan’s machine label and wiring diagrams.
- The power supply cable and front fuses must be dimensioned to
conform to local regulations.
- The motor cable must be fire resistant (STEF-HT) of the installation
space requires it.
- If the plug in fuse for a small direct-drive three-phase motor (<0.55
kW) is dimensioned close to the rated current, there is a risk that a
fuse will blow on start-up and the motor will run in two phases. As a
consequence the motor will burn out. The current to the motor must
not vary so much as to trip the motor protection in this situation. The
fuse must be made larger or a three-phase circuit breaker must be
used.
- The thermistors of the ATEX motor must be connected to an
independently operating thermistor relay which will reliably cuts the
power supply to the motor in accordance with Section 1.5.1 of Annex
II (Essential health and safety requirements) to the ATEX Directive
2014/34/EU. Local installation regulations may allow thermistors to
be connected to devices other than thermistor relays, such as drive
control inputs.
- If the safety switch is installed in an ATEX space, it must be ATEX-
rated.
5.4.1 THE FAN IS EQUIPPED WITH A SAFETY SWITCH
1. Mount the safety switch in a suitable location (the mounting plate
supplied with the STEF-HT must be used, especially if the safety
switch is mounted on the fan casing or other surface that heats up
in the event of a fire); bear in mind opening the fan for maintenance.
2. Open the cover of the safety switch.
3. Thread the flexible power supply cable through the lead-in of the
safety switch. Save enough cable so that the fan section can be
opened during maintenance.
4. Make the connection and close the safety switch cover.
5. Check the operation of the safety switch.

1. Mount the safety switch in a suitable location; bear in mind opening
the fan for maintenance .
2. Open the safety switch cover.
3. Connect the cable from the fan motor to the safety switch.
4. safety switch. Save enough cable so that the fan section can be
opened during maintenance.
5. Make the connection and close the safety switch cover.
6. Check the operation of the safety switch.
