Step 2 Configuring the 5300LF
You can configure the 5300LF EdgeMarc and 5300LF EdgeProtect appliances using a
simple web-based user interface. Configure the 5300LF EdgeView appliance using
YaST, a pre-installed, LINUX-based system management tool.
Configuring the 5300LF EdgeMarc and 5300LF EdgeProtect
You can configure the 5300LF EdgeMarc and 5300LF EdgeProtect appliance using a web
browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. The 5300LF is shipped with the
pre-configured IP address 192.168.1.1 for the LAN port (LAN port 1).
Requirement: To connect a PC directly to the appliance, you must use an ethernet
crossover cable.
To connect to the 5300LF EdgeMarc and 5300LF EdgeProtect, follow these steps:
1. Assign static IP address 192.168.1.2 with subnet 255.255.255.0 to a PC
2. Connect the PC to LAN port 1 of the 5300LF using an ethernet crossover cable
3. Launch a web browser on the PC and enter the URL string: 192.168.1.1. Press Return
The login window appears
4. Enter the username root and the password default to log into the system
The initial 5300LF main configuration menu appears

5. Select Network and start configuring the 5300LF appliance.
Note
For secure network management on an EdgeMarc or EdgeProtect 5300LF appliance,
change the default user name and password as described in the VOS for EdgeMarc User
Manual.
Configuring the 5300LF EdgeView
You can configure the 5300LF Edgeview appliance using YaST, a pre-installed,
LINUX-based system management tool. Access YaST from the command line
interface of the EdgeView appliance.
To connect to the 5300LF Edgeview appliance, follow these steps:
1. Connect a PC with a cross-over Ethernet cable to Port 1 of the EdgeView
chassis.
2. Since Port 1 is 192.168.1.1, configure your PC to have the IP address of
192.168.1.2, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and default gateway of 192.168.1.1.
3. Make sure you can ping 192.168.1.1 from your PC.
4. Open your favorite SSH application on your PC and SSH to the EdgeView.
(Note: The new LF chassis only accept SSH v2. In PuTTY, go to the SSH tab on
the left and under Preferred SSH Protocol Version, select 2)
5. Log into the CLI.
6. Type ‘yast’ at the # prompt. The configuration page appears as follows:

Step 3 Plan Your Configuration
The EdgeMarc 5300LF can be deployed as a gateway router in a network. It can also be
deployed in a network behind an existing firewall. Based on your deployment criteria, consult
the following documents for further configuration:

Helpful Hints
Although not recommended, the EdgeMarc 5300LF and IP phones can be installed behind an
existing enterprise firewall. In this instance the firewall will have to be configured to allow access
to and from the EdgeMarc 5300LF’s public IP address for the following ports:
Port Type
Firewall Ports to Open
UDP
161 (SNMP) and 162 (SNMPTRAP)
RTP
1056 to 1255
TCP
SSH TCP 22 for remote management & TCP 80 for WAN
configuration-downloads
Telnet
23
FTP
TCP 21 for stateful TCP-session control from 5300LF to
Edgewater FTP server
MGCP
2427, 2429, 2432, and 2727
NTP
¬
123
SIP
5060 and 5075
IP phones normally point to a local NTP server for their time reference. The NTP port 123
needs to be opened if your network does not have an NTP server.
Please Note: Traffic shaping for this configuration is only available if the enterprise data
devices are also installed behind the 5300LF appliance.
