DP 601

DEXAPLAN DP 601 - 9-2005 includes an indoor and an outside unit. The outside unit is splash-proof, has a bell button, name plate window, microphone and a speaker. It can be mounted outside your house. The indoor unit is for inside mounting only, it has a door release button, microphone and a speaker and needs to be connected to the mains power (230V, 50 Hz). The indoor and outdoor unit can be connected via a twin-core cable (with coded cores, length max. 200 m) to enable communication and to unlock a door (if connected to a standard 12 V DC door release which is not included in the package).

Door Intercom DP 601

Introduction

Please read these operating instructions thoroughly

and carefully. They are part of this product and

contain important instructions relating to its operation

and handling.

Please always observe all safety instructions. Before

initial operation, please check that all parts are ﬁtted

correctly. If you have any questions or are unsure

about handling of the device, please consult a spe

cialist or contact the service ofﬁce. Please keep

these instructions in a safe place and pass them on

to anyone else intending to use the device.

Proper use

This door intercom comprises an indooor and an

outdoor unit. The indoor unit generates a ring sig

nal and is used to speak into, listen and to activate

an optionally connected standard 12 V DC door re

lease (not included). Installation of the indoor unit is

only permitted indoors. The power must be sup

plied from the 230 V ~ 50 Hz mains supply. Con

nection of a standard 12 V DC door release (not in

is possible with a twin-core cable with

coded cores (not included). The outdoor unit is sui

table for ringing the door bell, speaking, listening

and for ﬂush-mounted installation outside (entran

ce area). The connection between the indoor and

outdoor units can be made with twin-core ca-

ble (with coded cores, length max. 200 m) (9m

twin-core cable included). The installation location

must be protected or equipped with a suitable co-

ver (e.g. a permanently installed canopy). The door

intercom is intended for private use only. Any other

use or modiﬁcation of the device constitutes im

proper use and poses a serious risk of accident. The

manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by im

proper use or incorrect operation of the device.

intercom. Please note that non-compliance with

of accident.

Tip! following this advice will help you to

achieve optimal results.

 Danger!

• Do not leave small children unsupervised with

the packaging material. There is a risk of fatal

accident by suffocation.

• Do not leave children unsupervised with the

device. There is a risk of fatal accident and injury.

• The door intercom must be isolated from the po

wer supply for installation and connection.

Otherwise there is a risk of fatal accident by

electric shock.

• Do not damage any gas, electricity, water or

telecommunication lines when ﬁtting the device.

This poses a risk of fatal accident, injury and

damage.

• Never expose the device to ﬁre, heat or to tem

peratures of over 50° C for any length of time.

There is a danger to life from explosion.

• Handle the cable with care. Install it so that it

cannot get damaged and does not

create a stumbling hazard. This otherwise poses

a risk of fatal accident and injury.

• Never connect any external voltage to the ter

minal screws

• Make sure that the plug of the mains cable

is pushed completely into the mains socket

when connecting the device.

• Use the indoor unit

in dry areas only. Never

allow it to come into contact with water. Do not

cover the air vents with any objects, e.g. cur-

tains. Do not operate the indoor unit

in cup-

boards or very small spaces with insufﬁcient

ventilation. There is a risk of electric shock, ﬁre

and fatal accident.

• Clean the components with a dry or slightly

damp cloth only. Keep the components and cable

dry when cleaning. Otherwise there is a risk of

electric shock and fatal accident.

• Do not open the housing of the indoor unit

The device is under high voltage. There is a

risk of electric shock and fatal accident.

• Do not push any object through the openings.

You could touch live parts. This poses a risk of

electric shock, fatal accident and ﬁre.

• In the event of damage, isolate the device

immediately from the mains supply. Pull the

plug out of the mains socket. Contact the ser

vice ofﬁce. Any repair work must be carried out

immediately by a qualiﬁed electrician. Otherwi

se there is a risk of electric shock and fatal ac

cident.

• If any object or liquid gets into the compon

ents, disconnect from the mains supply imme

diately (pull the plug of the mains cable

out

of the mains socket immediately). The compo

nents must be checked by a qualiﬁed electrici

an before the device resumes operation.

Otherwise there is a risk of short circuit, elec

tric shock and fatal accident.

• Take care to avoid injury when preparing the

recess in the wall for outside installation of the

outdoor unit .

 Caution!

• Make sure before connection to the mains po

wer supply that it is 230 V ~ 50 Hz in accor

dance with regulations. The mains plug should

be ﬁtted with a 3 Amp fuse.

• Do not cover the indoor unit

or outdoor unit

with any object. This could adversely affect the

ring tone and voice transmission functions.

• Make sure that the indoor unit

and the out-

door unit do not come into contact with water.

• Protect the indoor unit

and the outdoor unit

from strong magnetic or electric ﬁelds and

heavy mechanical loads or vibrations.

• Only use the device with the supplied original

parts or parts suitable for it.

• Check before initial operation that all components

are assembled in accordance with the operating

instructions.

• Before assembly and initial operation of the

device, check that the delivery is complete and

undamaged.

• The device must only be repaired by authorized

and skilled specialists. Failure to observe this

instruction risks damage resulting from improper

use and loss of the warranty.

• Use the indoor unit

at an operating tempera-

ture of + 5° C - + 40° C. Higher or lower tempe

ratures can adversely affect operation.

• If required, a standard 12 V DC door release

can be connected to the system. The door

release must be operated with 12 V DC and

have a max. current consumption of 1 A.

• The mains cable

for this door intercom

must only be replaced by the manufacturer or

by an authorized specialist.

• Only use suitable tools for installation (faste

ning screws and wall plugs are included).

• Install the outdoor unit so that it is protected

from external inﬂuences (e.g. rain or snow).

• Make sure that the device is not exposed to

strong static, electric or high frequency ﬁelds

(static discharge, mobile radiotelephone, radio

sets, microwaves). These may have an adverse

effect on the function of the door intercom.

• The packaging material and old appliances

should not be thrown away but recycled. Please

take packaging materials to a disposal facility

in your city or district. When the device has

reached the end of its useful life, please like

wise take it to an appropriate disposal facility

in your city or district. By doing this, you are

fulﬁlling your legal obligations and making an

important contribution to protecting the envi-

ronment.

The connection between the outdoor unit and the

Preparation and material required

The stated materials are not included. The informa-

tion provided here is non-binding and intended as a

guide. The quality of the material depends on indi

vidual local requirements.

 A mains socket for mains power supply

230 V ~ 50 Hz (equipped with a max. 16 A fuse).

 A pen to mark the mounting points.

 A crosstip screwdriver for installation with the

fastening screws and dowels, and for connection

of the cable.

 Wire stripper for connection of the cables.

 A hammer drill and 6 mm ø drill bit for the drilled

holes.

 Tools (e.g. hammer and ﬂat chisel) to make the

necessary recess 110 x 175 x 45 mm (w x h x d)

for ﬂush installation of the outdoor unit.

Optional:

 A standard cable duct for installation of the

twin-core cable.

 Silicone for sealing work after installation of

the ﬂush mount box

 A standard 12 V DC door release and a second

twin-core cable (with coded cores, in accor

dance with the instructions of the door release

manufacturer) for connection of the door re

lease (not included) to the indoor unit

Choosing the installation positions

 Danger! when making the installation,

disconnect the indoor unit

from the mains

power supply.

 Decide on a suitable position for installation of

the indoor unit

, the outdoor unit and optio-

nally for the door release (see manufacturer‘s

instructions in the operating manual for the

door release). Please make sure that there is a

mains socket for the mains power supply at a

max. distance of 1.5 m from the indoor unit

 You may install the indoor unit

either on an

even surface (shelf or cabinet) or on a wall.

Make sure that the cable is a suitable length.

Connection

The cable included is equipped with cable lugs

(fork-type) for connection of the indoor unit

and

the outdoor unit.

 Lead the twin-core cable from the installation

site of the indoor unit

to the installation site

of the outdoor unit.

 Install the cable so that it is protected from ex-

ternal inﬂuences, e.g. concealed, if

necessary use a standard cable duct.

 Make sure that you have approx. 50 cm of ca-

ble available for connection directly at the con

necting areas for the indoor unit

and out-

door unit.

Optional

If you are using a cable without cable lugs (fork-

type), you will need to bare the ends of the cables.

 Carefully remove the insulation from the end of

the cable cores to a length of approx. 8 mm.

The bared cores can be connected to the ter-

minal screws.

Indoor unit (see Fig. B)

 Caution! make sure that the cable is connec-

ted correctly. The cable must be connected ac

cording to the core coding. If the cores are

connected incorrectly, the DP 601 door inter

com cannot work properly.

 Remove the mounting plate

from the

indoor unit

 Guide the ﬁrst cable (and a second if connec-

ting a door release) through the centre of the

mounting plate

and the cable opening

 Push the plug of the receiver cable

into the receiver cable socket on the handset

(at the bottom in the centre of the handset

 Carry out the installation and connection pre-

parations for the door release according to the

manufacturer‘s instructions (operating manual).

 Connect the ﬁrst core (e.g. blue) of the second

cable (from the door release to the indoor unit

)

to terminal screw S1

and the corresponding

terminal screw of the door release.

 Connect the second core (e.g. red) of the

second cable (from the door release to the in

door unit

) to terminal screw S2

and the

Installation

 Danger! Do not damage any gas, electricity,

water or telecommunication lines when ﬁtting

the device. This poses a risk of fatal accident,

injury and damage.

 Remove the plug of the mains cable

from

the mains socket.

 Take care to avoid injury when making the

recess in the wall for outside installation of the

outdoor unit.

Tip! mount the outdoor unit at a comfortable

height for visitors to use.

Outdoor unit

 Make a recess in the wall of approx.

110 x 175 x 45 mm (w x h x d) at the required in

stallation position for the outdoor unit. It is

important that the recess is not too large, as

this would make it difﬁcult to secure the out

door unit. Make sure that the twin-core cable

is inside the wall recess.

 Fit the ﬂush mount box

[

exactly into the wall

recess. Make sure that the front outer edge of

the ﬂush mount box

is ﬂush with the surface

of the wall (ﬁxing clip

necessary, ﬁll any spaces between the wall

recess and the ﬂush mount box

 Carefully push the lefthand side of the name

plate window

inwards and then to the left.

 Open the name plate window

and remove

the name insert.

 Write your name on the insert and replace it

behind the name plate window

push it to the right until it clicks in place.

Door release

(optional)

 To install a 12 V DC door release, follow the

instructions and information provided in the

operating manual for the door release.

Power supply

 Push the plug of the mains cable

completely

into a mains socket. The two red LEDs behind

the name insert on the name plate window

light up. If the two red LEDs do not light up, the

connection between the indoor unit

and the

outdoor unit has not been made properly.

 Connect the indoor unit

and the outdoor

unit properly. The door intercom is now ready

for operation.

Operation

A visitor presses the bell button

on the outdoor unit.

The two red LEDs behind the name insert on the

name plate window

are not illuminated for as

long as the bell button remains pressed. A two-tone

signal rings twice on the indoor unit

. If the visi-

tor holds the bell button

down longer, the ring

tone occurs a corresponding number of times.

 Remove the receiver

from the indoor unit

 Speak to the visitor into the bottom part

(mouthpiece) of the receiver

The visitor can hear you through the loudspeaker

and answers with the aid of the microphone

on the outdoor unit.

 You can hear the visitor through the upper part

(earpiece) of the receiver

 When you have ﬁnished your conversation,

replace the receiver

Door release

(optional)

If a door release is connected, you can unlock the

door/the gate in the following way:

Door release with holding function

A door release with holding function is unlocked

when the signal is given.

 Press the door release button

. The gate or

the door is locked once it has been opened

and closed again.

Door release without holding function

 Keep the door release button

pressed until

the visitor has opened the door. It is possible to

open the door during the time in which you are

pressing the door release button

 When you let go of the door release button

the door is locked immediately. It is also possible

to unlock the door / the gate when the receiver

is hooked up on the indoor unit.

Troubleshooting

Correct the fault in the cable. Use the 9m cable

provided to check the correct function. Obser

ve the polarity marking on the cable.

Replace the 3 Amp fuse in the mains plug with

a fuse of the same rating.

The sound of the visitor‘s voice is weak.

The visitor is standing too far away from the

outdoor unit.

Ask the visitor to move closer to the outdoor unit.

Maintenance and cleaning

 Disconnect the indoor unit

from the power

supply before maintenance and cleaning.

 Check the technical safety and function of the

device regularly.

 Use a soft cloth and a mild agent, if necessary

mild soap suds, to clean the plastic and metallic

surfaces.

 Never use solvents, thinner or similar chemical

substances.

 Remove deposits of dust from the air vents

with a brush or use a vacuum cleaner at

min. 5 cm distance from the components.

Disposal

Please take all packaging materials to a disposal

facility in your city or district. The recyclable

packaging materials have been selected for their

ecologically compatible and disposable properties.

In accordance with European Directive 2002/96/EC

on used electrical and electronic appliances and its

implementation in national law, used electrical

devices must be collected separately and recycled

in an ecologically compatible manner. Please take

the device to a disposal facility in your city or district

after its useful life. By following these requirements

you are meeting your legal obligations and making

an important contribution to protecting the

environment.

Warranty

This device has a warranty of 3 years from the date

of purchase. The device was manufactured with

care and inspected thoroughly before delivery. Ple

ase keep your receipt as proof of purchase. If you

have a claim under the warranty, please contact

the service ofﬁce for your country. This is the only

way to ensure that your device can be sent in free

of charge. This warranty is only valid for the ﬁrst

purchaser and is not transferable.

The warranty only covers material or manufacturing

defects. It does not apply to worn parts or damage

to fragile parts, e.g. switches. The product is intended

solely for private use and not for commercial use.

In the event of incorrect and/or improper handling,

the use of force or any work on the device that is

not performed by the service ofﬁce, the warranty

shall expire. This warranty does not restrict your

statutory rights.
