Operating and safety instructions

Introduction

Please read the operating instructions thoroughly and carefully before initial opera-

tion of the product. The instruction manual is part of this product and contains impor-

tant information relating to initial operation and handling. Please always observe all

safety instructions. Before initial operation, please check that all parts are ﬁtted cor-

rectly. If you have any questions or are unsure about handling of the device, please

contact the service ofﬁce for your country. Please keep these instructions in a safe

place. If you give the device to anyone else, please also pass on all documents sup-

plied with it.

Proper use

The TM 605 pressure mat reacts to active pressure loads (visitors or pets) by way of

the inbuilt sensor ﬁlm. The alarm unit indicates pressure loads with an acoustic sig-

nal, either a loud siren or a quiet or loud gong tone. The pressure mat can be laid un-

der a ﬂexible, thin carpet, cloth or doormat and must be protected against moisture.

The alarm unit is connected to the twin-core cable (approx. 940 cm) and can be set

up either free-standing or installed with the aid of the supplied fastening material.

The device is suitable for use in dry rooms and areas protected from moisture. It

should be connected to a 9-volt block battery (not included) for operation. The device

is intended for private use only. Any other use or modiﬁcation of the device consti-

tutes improper use and poses a serious risk of accident. The manufacturer is not lia-

ble for damage caused by improper use or incorrect operation of the device.

The following instructions are for your own safety and satisfaction when oper-

ating the TM 605 pressure mat. Please note that non-compliance with these

safety instructions can lead to a serious risk of accident.

Explanation of the symbols and terms used:

Tip ! Following this advice will help you to achieve optimal results.

 Danger !

• Do not leave small children unsupervised with the packaging material.

This poses a danger to life by suffocation!

• Do not use the device in the presence of sick or disabled people or ani

mals! Shock caused by the siren poses a danger to life and risk of injury.

• Do not damage any gas, electricity, water or telecommunication lines

when ﬁtting the device! This poses a danger to life and risk of injury and

• Do not allow leaky or damaged batteries to come into contact with the

skin or eyes! Use suitable protective gloves and clothing. Corrosive acid

poses a danger to life and a risk of injury!

• Never expose the device to ﬁre, heat or to temperatures of over 50° C for

any length of time! This poses a danger to life by explosion.

• Do not short-circuit the batteries or recharge them! This poses a danger to

life by explosion!

• Make sure that your hearing is not exposed to the loud alarm signal for

any length of time! This can cause serious damage to the hearing.

• Make sure that the loud siren is not triggered close to the ears. This can

cause serious damage to the hearing!

• Handle the cable with care! Install it so that it cannot get damaged and

does not create a stumbling hazard. Otherwise there is a danger to life and

a risk of injury and ﬁre!

• Position the pressure mat and the cover so that they do not create a stum

bling hazard! Otherwise there is a danger to life and a risk of injury!

 Caution !

• Operate the device with a 9-volt block battery (6LR61, alkaline) only!

• Make sure that you insert the battery with the correct polarity!

• Remove the battery from the device during long periods of non-use!

• Only use new batteries and under no circumstances used ones!

• Do not cover the alarm unit with any objects. This may reduce the volume

of the acoustic signal on the loudspeaker

• Do not allow the pressure mat to come into contact with moisture. Protect

it from rainwater!

• Do not allow the alarm unit to come into contact with moisture!

• Protect the pressure mat and the alarm unit from strong magnetic or elec

tric ﬁelds, and from heavy mechanical strain and vibrations! Use the device

with the supplied original parts only or with parts that are suitable for it.

• Check before initial operation that all components are assembled in

accordance with the operating instructions!

• Before assembly and initial operation of the device, check that the delivery

is complete and undamaged!

• The device must only be repaired by authorized and skilled specialists!

Otherwise there is a risk of damage resulting from improper use and loss

of the warranty.

• When positioning the pressure mat, make sure that:

- there are no pointed or sharp-edged objects underneath it.

- the surface on which it is laid is even and smooth.

- it is covered by a thin, ﬂexible carpet, a cloth or a doormat to conceal

it from view.

• Use the alarm unit at temperatures of 0°C to + 40°C and the pressure mat

at temperatures of -15°C to +40°C! Higher or lower temperatures may

adversely affect operation.

Initial operation

Tip ! The pressure mat reacts sensitively and quickly to pressure loads.

You can use the pressure mat to indicate the presence of welcome visitors (e.g. fam

ily or pets) or of unwanted visitors (e.g. intruders) with an acoustic signal. There is a

choice of a quiet or loud gong tone or an approx. 30-second long siren signal.

Preparation and material required:

The stated materials are not included. The information provided here is non-

binding and intended as a guide. The quality of the material depends on indi

vidual local requirements.

You will need:

- A 9-volt block battery (6LR61, alkaline) for the power supply (not included).

- A pen to mark the installation points.

- A hammer drill with bit to make the holes for mounting the device on a

wall with the two wall plugs or for cable entry (e.g. in a door frame).

- A crosstip screwdriver for installation with the fastening screws.

Power supply

 Caution ! Operate the device with a 9-volt block battery (6LR61, alkaline)

only! Make sure that the battery is inserted with the correct polarity. Remove

the battery from the device during long periods of non-use.

Replace old batteries with new batteries only and never with used ones.

 Switch the function switch

Position

Position of the pressure mat

Tip ! Do not use a stiff carpet or doormat to cover the pressure mat, since it

reacts to points of pressure. If the ﬂoor and/or the underside of the carpet or

doormat is uneven, malfunctions may occur.

 Always spread the pressure mat out on a clean and even surface. Remove

any sharp objects, e.g. stones or grit, since these can cause malfunctions

or irreparably damage the pressure mat.

Detecting people

 Choose the area in which the pressure mat is to detect the presence of peo-

ple, e.g. in the entrance area or in front of an area you wish to protect.

 Spread the pressure mat out completely on the ﬂoor/surface and smooth it

out ﬂat and even (see Fig. A).

Cover the full surface of the entry mat with a cloth, carpet or a doormat.

Detecting pets (dog or cat)

 Choose the area in which you wish the pressure mat to detect the pres-

ence of your cat or dog, e.g. a patio door.

 Cover the full surface of the pressure mat with a cloth or a doormat.

Positioning the alarm unit

Tip ! make sure that the acoustic signals cannot frighten pets. Position the

alarm unit so that your pet cannot hear the acoustic signals. You can install the

alarm unit close to the pressure mat or further away from it.

 Position the alarm unit so that you can operate it and change the battery

with ease. Make sure that any unwanted visitors (e.g. intruders) cannot

see or operate the alarm unit.

 Position the alarm unit in its chosen location either free-standing or lying

down.

Installing the alarm unit on the wall

 Danger ! Do not damage any gas, electricity, water or telecommunication

lines when installing the device! This poses a danger to life and a risk of injury

and damage.

 Mark two drill holes in a line one above the other 44 mm apart in the chosen

installation position.

 Drill the holes and push the two wall plugs supplied with the device com-

pletely into the holes.

 Screw the two fastening screws so far into the wall plugs that the two

screw heads protrude by approx. 6 mm from the surface of the wall.

Cable installation

 Caution ! Do not pass the cable over sharp edges and make sure that it

does not get trapped! If necessary protect the cable with insulating tape. Make

sure that the cable is not visible to unwanted visitors (e.g. intruders).

 Install the cable so that it does not create a stumbling hazard. Guide and

ﬁt the cable close in the joint between the wall and ﬂoor.

You wish to lay the cable through a doorway:

 Lay the cable inside the inner edges of the door frame so that it does not

hinder closing or use of the door. Make sure that the cable is not damaged

when the door is closed or used.

or :

 If necessary drill a suitably sized hole (outer measurement of the cable

socket

, approx. 10 mm) into the door frame and pass the cable through it.

Operation



Danger! Do not use the device in the presence of sick or disabled people or

animals. Shock resulting from the siren poses a danger to life and a risk of injury.

Make sure that your hearing is not exposed to the loud alarm signal for any

length of time. This can cause serious damage to the hearing.

Make sure that the loud siren is not triggered close to the ears. This can cause

serious damage to the hearing.

The alarm unit only generates acoustic signals if one of the three functions

has been activated. An active loading of the pressure mat causes

the chosen signal to be generated. For example, if a cat walks onto the pres

sure mat, the alarm unit will generate the signal for the activated function. As

long as the cat remains on the pressure mat, there is no active pressure load

and therefore no signal is generated.

The sensor ﬁlm inside the pressure mat is highly sensitive. It is possible that it

could be triggered by other animals or even by strong wind. Choose the function “0“

and switch the alarm unit off when you do not need it, particularly at night, to

avoid disturbances.

If you change from “0” to

function, the gong tone of the relevant function

rings once.

Siren

Select this function to indicate the presence of unwanted visitors (e.g. in-

truders). Every active pressure load on the pressure mat triggers a very

loud siren for approx. 30 seconds.

Switching off

0 Select this function if you wish to switch the alarm unit off.

Quiet gong

Select this function to indicate the presence of visitors (e.g. family) or pets.

Every active pressure load on the pressure mat triggers a quiet gong tone,

which rings twice.

Loud gong

Choose this function to indicate the presence of visitors (e.g. family) or

pets. Every active pressure load on the pressure mat triggers a loud gong

tone, which rings twice.

Troubleshooting

work.

 Check the technical safety and operation of the device on a regular basis.

 Use a ﬂuff-free cloth and a mild agent (no solvents) to clean the plastic

surfaces.

Disposal

Please take all packaging materials to a disposal facility in your city or district.

The recyclable packaging materials have been selected for their ecologically

compatible and disposable properties. In accordance with European Directive

2002 / 96 / EC on used electrical and electronic appliances and its implementa

tion in national law, used electrical appliances must be collected separately

and recycled in an ecologically compatible manner.

Remove the battery before disposing of the device.

Take the device to a disposal facility in your city or district after its useful life. As the

consumer you are required by law (Battery Ordinance) to return all used batteries.

Batteries containing harmful substances are identiﬁed with the symbols shown,

indicating that their disposal in household waste is prohibited. The abbrevia

tions for the critical heavy metals are:

Cd = Cadmium, Hg = Mercury, Pb = Lead.

Please take all used batteries to a disposal facility in your city or district, or return

them to the dealer.

By following these requirements you are meeting your legal obligations and

making an important contribution to protecting the environment.

Warranty

This device is supplied with a warranty of 3 years from the date of purchase.

The device was manufactured with care and inspected thoroughly prior to de-

livery. Please retain your receipt as proof of purchase. If you have any claim un

der the warranty, please contact the service ofﬁce for your country. This is the

only way to ensure that your device can be sent in free of charge. This warranty

is only valid for the ﬁrst purchaser and is not transferable. The warranty further

more covers material or manufacturing defects only. It does not apply to worn

parts or damage to fragile parts, e.g. switches. The product is solely intended for

private use and not for commercial use. No claim for damages may be made in

the event of a burglary. An alarm is no substitute for insurance cover and does

not replace your duty of care. In the event of incorrect and / or improper handling,

the use of force or any work on the device that is not performed by the service

ofﬁce, the warranty shall expire. This warranty does not restrict your statutory

rights.
