Important Safety Precautions
Make sure you have a clear understanding of all basic shop safety practices and that you are wearing appropriate
clothing and using safety equipment. When performing any service task, be especially careful of the following:
Read all of the instructions before you begin, and make sure you have the tools, the replacement or repair parts,
and the skills required to perform the tasks safely and completely.
Protect your eyes by using proper safety glasses, goggles or face shields any time you hammer, drill, grind, pry or
work around pressurized air or liquids, and springs or other stored-energy components. If there is any doubt, put on
eye protection.
Use other protective wear when necessary, for example gloves or safety shoes. Handling hot or sharp parts can
cause severe burns or cuts. Before you grab something that looks like it can hurt you, stop and put on gloves.
Protect yourself and others whenever you have the vehicle up in the air. Any time you lift the vehicle, either with a
hoist or a jack, make sure that it is always securely supported. Use jack stands.
Make sure the engine is off before you begin any servicing procedures, unless the instruction tells you to do otherwise.
This will help eliminate several potential hazards:
Carbon monoxide poisoning from engine exhaust. Be sure there is adequate ventilation whenever you run the
engine
Burns from hot parts or coolant. Let the engine and exhaust system cool before working in those areas.
Injury from moving parts. If the instruction tells you to run the engine, be sure your hands, fingers and clothing are
out of the way.
Gasoline vapors and hydrogen gases from batteries are explosive. To reduce the possibility of a fire or explosion, be
careful when working around gasoline or batteries.
Use only a nonflammable solvent, not gasoline, to clean parts.
Never drain or store gasoline in an open container.
Keep all cigarettes, sparks and flames away from the battery and all fuel-related parts.
Improper set-up or pre-delivery service can create an

This set-up and pre-delivery manual describes the service procedures for the VT1300CX.
Follow the complete sequence of steps as shown. Do not shortcut any steps. The sequence has been established to
ensure the unit is properly assembled.

SET-UP SECTION
POLYPROPLYENE COVERED CRATE
Check the unit for damage.
If damage is found, follow the instructions on the Delivery and Dam-
age Claims Guidelines wall chart (Reorder No. S0477) before pro-
ceeding further.
Cut the strap, open the fastener, and remove the polypropylene
cover.
PARTS CARTON
Cut the strap and remove the parts carton from the crate base.
Cut the tie and remove the key and helmet holder from the left side
footpeg.

booklet from the parts carton and hand deliver it to the customer at

CRATE FRAME REMOVAL
Using two people, carefully lift off the top crate frame.
Take care not to damage the motorcycle while removing the top
crate frame and posts.
Remove the top crate frame.
Remove the four posts.
MOTORCYCLE REMOVAL FROM THE CRATE BASE
Support the motorcycle and remove the two rear tie-downs.
Loosen the rear support bolt.
Support the motorcycle and remove the two front tie-downs.
Support the motorcycle, remove the two bolts and rear support
bracket off the crate base.

Remove the rear support bracket by pulling it towards the rear of the
motorcycle.
Using two people, carefully roll the motorcycle forward off the crate
base.
Place the motorcycle on its sidestand.
NOTE: Do NOT roll the motorcycle backwards as it may dam-
age the underside of the frame.
REAR VIEW MIRRORS
Thread the mirrors into the holders and secure them with the lock
nuts.
HELMET HOLDER (OPTIONAL)
The helmet holder is a customer convenience feature, and it is
not essential to the operation of the motorcycle. Some customers
may prefer the appearance of this motorcycle without the helmet
holder installed. If your sales department instructs that a pre-sold
Fury should not have the helmet holder installed, please tag it to
be provided to the customer. AHM will not be responsible for
missing parts or installation after a retail sale.

Remove the 8 x 32 mm socket bolts and rear seat belt.
Remove the rear seat mounting socket bolts, collar and rear seat.
Remove the front seat mounting socket bolts and front seat.
Be careful not to damage the rear fender with the seat prong.
Remove the trim clips and rear fender.
Attach the helmet holder onto the seat frame using two 6 x 13 mm
torx bolts.
Tighten the torx bolts to the specified torque.
Reinstall the rear fender and trim clips.

When reinstalling the rear fender, insert the rear fender mudguards
between the engine and swingarm.
Attach the Velcro tape onto the rear fender under the seat.
Attach one of the bags onto the rear fender. This bag will be used to
store personal documents.
Align the front seat hooks with the raised lip of the frame properly.
Reinstall the front seat and socket bolts.
Tighten the socket bolts to the specified torque. Be careful not to
cross-thread the seat bolts.
Reinstall the rear seat.
Attach the rear seat belt.
Temporarily install the rear socket bolt.
Reinstall the 8 x 32 mm socket bolts.
Tighten the rear socket bolt to the specified torque.
Tighten the 8 x 32 mm socket bolts to the specified torque.
Be careful not to damage the rear fender with the seat prong.
OWNER’S MANUAL
Remove the left and right side cover.
Place the Owner’s Manual in the bag and attach it to the inside of
the right side cover.

Align then the tabs, then reinstall the right side cover.
LICENSE PLATE
Place a 6 mm plain washer on both of the 6 x 16 mm flange bolts
and insert the bolts into the license plate mounting bracket slots.
Place a tail light collar, and 6 mm flange nut on each bolt.
Tighten the nuts.

Remove the protective coverings from the muffler, engine, side
cover, and turn signal lights.

HEX PLUG
Attach the hex plug 5 mm onto the cylinder head cover.
Attach the hex plug 6 mm onto the swingarm.
BRAKE DISC
Clean the front and rear brake discs with brake cleaner and a clean
shop towel.
PRE-DELIVERY SECTION
BATTERY INSTALLATION
Service the battery only if the motorcycle has been sold or is to be
used as a demonstration vehicle.
Ensure the ignition is in the OFF position.
The electrolyte has already been added to the battery.
Remove the battery band and battery.
Remove the protective cap from the positive (+) terminal.
Remove the battery terminal bolts and nuts.

The battery used in this motorcycle is a pre-charged, maintenance-
free type.
Follow the instructions included on the battery case and in Service
Letter #48.
Align the battery cables, located in the battery compartment.
Slide the battery terminal nuts into the battery terminals.
Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the end of the negative
battery terminal to prevent the nut from falling out during battery
installation.
Set the battery into its compartment.
Connect the positive battery cable to the positive (+) battery terminal
using the terminal bolts.
Tighten the bolts securely, and pull the red cover over the positive
terminal.
Connect the negative (-) battery cable to the negative (-) battery ter-
minal using the terminal bolts.
Tighten the bolts securely.
Verify the correct routing of the battery cables by referring to the bat-
tery routing illustration (page 12).
Attach the battery band.
Attach the wire band.
Be careful not to close the fuel breather tube when attaching the
wire band.
Reinstall the left side cover.
When installing the side covers, align the tabs.

ENGINE OIL
Before starting the engine, remove the anti-rust coating from the
engine and exhaust system using a mild detergent and water.
Rinse with clean water.
Hold the motorcycle in an upright position.
Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick and check the dipstick to make
sure the engine has oil.
Replace the oil filler cap/dipstick.
Start the engine and let it idle for 3 – 5 minutes.
Stop the engine and wait 2 – 3 minutes.
Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick and wipe it clean.
Insert the oil filler cap/dipstick without screwing it in, remove it and
check the oil level.
If the oil level is below or near the lower level line on the oil filler cap/
dipstick, and add the recommended engine oil to the UPPER level.
Reinstall the oil filler cap/dipstick.
When replacing the engine oil, refer to the Service Manual.
RECOMMENDED ENGINE OIL:
Pro Honda GN4 4-stroke oil or an equivalent motorcycle oil.
Viscosity: SAE 10W-30
API Classification: SG or higher.
JASO T 903 standard: MA
ENGINE COOLANT
Using coolant with silicate inhibitors may cause premature wear
of water pump seals or blockage of radiator passages.
Using tap water may cause engine damage.
Do not spill coolant on painted or plastic surfaces as it may dam-
age the finish.
The effectiveness of coolant decreases with the accumulation of
rust or if there is a change in the mixing proportion during usage.
For best performance change the coolant regularly as specified
in the maintenance schedule.
Mix only distilled, low mineral water with coolant.
Hold the motorcycle in an upright position.
Check the reserve tank coolant level.
If the level is low, remove the coolant reserve tank cap, add coolant
to restore the level to the UPPER level mark.
When replacing the coolant, refer to the Service Manual.

CLUTCH LEVER
Measure the clutch lever freeplay at the end of the clutch lever.
ADJUSTMENT
Adjust the clutch lever freeplay by the adjuster.
Make small adjustments at the lever end of the cable by loosening
the lock nut and turning the adjuster.
Tighten the lock nut after making the adjustment.
Before making any large adjustments, loosen the lever lock nut and
turn the adjuster all the way in.
Make large adjustments at the engine end of the cable.
Tighten the lock nut after making the adjustment.
BRAKE FLUID
Park the motorcycle on a level surface.
Turn the handlebar so the front brake reservoir is level and check
the brake fluid level mark.
Check the rear brake reservoir.
If the fluid level in either reservoir is low, remove the cap screws,
cap, plate, and diaphragm.
Add fresh Pro Honda DOT 4 Brake Fluid or equivalent from a sealed
container to bring the level up to the upper level.
Brake fluid can cause irritation; avoid contact with the eyes and
skin.
Handle brake fluid with care as it can cause damage to paint and
plastics.
Reinstall the diaphragm, plate, cap, and cap screws.
Tighten the cap screws to the specified torque.
Operate the brake lever and pedal.
If the freeplay is excessive, bleed the system.

THROTTLE OPERATION
Check for smooth operation of the throttle and that it returns auto-
matically to the fully closed position from any open position and from
any steering position.
Measure the freeplay at the throttle grip flange.
ADJUSTMENT
Adjust the freeplay by loosening the lock nut and turning the
adjuster.
After adjustment, tighten the lock nut securely.
Recheck the throttle operation.
FINAL DRIVE OIL
Place the motorcycle on its sidestand.
Remove the oil filler cap from the final gear case.
Check that the oil level is up to the lower edge of the oil filler hole.
Check for leaks if the oil level is low.
Pour the recommended oil through the oil filler hole until it reaches
the lower edge of the hole.
When replacing the final gear oil, refer to the Service Manual.
Install and tighten the oil filler cap.
TIRE PRESSURE

With the ignition ON. Push the Select button to display the clock.
Push and hold the Select button for more then 2 seconds until the
Hour starts to flash.
Push the Select button to choose the desired hour.

Push and hold the select for more then 2 seconds to end the clock
