PREPARATION
Familiarize yourself with the above diagram for identification of parts.
Unpack/inventory items. Handle items with care as sharp edges are common on cut pipe.
Gather necessary tools: tape measure, sledge hammer, screw driver/power drill, hand
saw and adjustable wrench.
This package contains small parts. Please keep parts out of reach of young children.
Be observant of traffic on the roadway during installation of the mailbox post system.

STEP 1: MARK LOCATION FOR THE POST
Mailboxes must be placed so they can be safely and conveniently served by carriers without
leaving their vehicles. If possible, choose a location close to your residence or business and a
location that doesn’t require crossing a road or street (check with local post office, if unsure).
This will allow you to retrieve your mail without having to step into the street by simply
rotating the mailbox toward you.
The mailbox post should be positioned so the front of the
mailbox will be set back 6-8” from the face of the curb (or
the edge of the road) to the mailbox door. To determine the
location of the Ground Post, mark the desired set back
position to the front of the mailbox and add the length of
your mailbox mounting arm. Further set back can be
provided if the carrier can safely pull off and re-enter the
roadway. Be sure to mark the location for the post.
Try to pick a location that is of similar elevation as the
road bed for the Ground Post.
STEP 2: INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL GROUND POST. Hold the
ground post so the open channel is facing the
road. Put it in the marked location and use
the sledge hammer to pound it into the
ground about 24-inches. Make sure the post
is level/plumb. If the finished height is
different than desired, adjust the height of
the ground post accordingly.
2. INSTALL VERTICAL ARM AND MOUNTING ARM.
Align the holes on the vertical arm with the holes on the
ground post. Determine the desired height and put one of
the hex bolts through the hole from the outside. Loosely
tighten a nut onto the bolt.
Slide the mailbox mounting arm over the safety cable and
rest it on the top of the vertical arm. Use the tape measure
and measure the height from the ground to the mailbox
mounting arm.

The U.S. Postal System requires the bottom of the mailbox to be between 40 to 46-inches above
the road surface (42-inches is generally preferred). If required, adjust the height of the vertical
arm by removing the hex bolt and nut and moving the post up or down as needed to achieve the
desired 42 to 44-inch height from the roadbed surface. Slide the hex bolt into the desired hole
and add a second hex bolt. Tighten securely with a wrench.
3. INSTALL MAILBOX MOUNTING BRACKETS. Align the middle hole on the mailbox
mounting brackets with the holes at the end of the mailbox mounting arm. Use a Philip head
bolt to attach the brackets to the arm and tighten with the bolt underneath the arm. Securely
tighten the bolts using a wrench.

Once the mailbox mounting brackets are installed, the security cable will be locked. Pull the
mounting arm from the vertical arm to test.
4. INSTALL THE MAILBOX. A small piece of wood (not included) can be used to mount the
mailbox on top of the mounting brackets. Measure the width and length of your mailbox. Cut
the wood to fit and place under the mailbox. The wood should align with the mailbox mounting
brackets. One large or two small pieces of wood may be used. Put the mailbox on top of the post
over the mounting brackets and add screws through the hole in the mounting brackets into the
wood/mailbox. You may also wish to add screws to the side if the mailbox has pre-drilled holes.

STEP 3: FINISHING TOUCHES
We recommend putting your street number on both sides of the mailbox so it is visible from
both directions to aid the post office and emergency response units in identifying your residence
or business. The numbers should be a minimum of two (2) inches high and made of reflective
material.
A light coat of white grease, lithium grease or other suitable lubricant added to the tip of the
rotating arm under the mailbox mounting arm may aid rotation of the mounting arm.
