1 INTRODUCTION

ESAB Software Administration Tool, ESAT is a kit for service including software

and a CAN--interface.

With ESAT it is possible to:

S control, change or read the different functions in the connected equipment

S change basic settings

S handle synergy lines

S update software (firmware) in the connected equipment.

The software update has to be performed by a trained service technician.

The ESAT software runs on a PC with Windows. The PC is connected to the welding

equipment via the CAN--interface.

The ESAT CAN--interface are available in two versions:

S PPCAN, for connection to a parallell printer port

S USB2CAN, for connection to a USB port.

1.1 This document

This document describes what the various menues in the ESAT installation program

means, and what the various selection options do.

2 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

To use the ESAT you need a computer with operating system:

S Windows XP Professional 32--bit with latest service pack

S Windows Vista 32--bit, Business edition or Ultimate edition with latest service

pack.

The software might work with Windows; 9x Second Edition,NT4 or NT 2000 but this

is no longer supported.

2.1 Interface requirements

To make the connection between computer and machine there must be a

CAN--adapter. Suitable adapters are:

S Mecel PPCAN (ESAB Service kit for parallell port)

S ATAS USB2CAN (ESAB Service kit for USB)

S Other Interfaces are:

IXXAT Candy

IXXAT Compact

IXXAT USB--to--CAN

CC Systems IpME.

2.2 Updating of ESAB equipment

To make an update/upgrade of ESAB equipment, you will also need the file with

firmware to load into the connected equipment. Information about this are sent out

to registred users of ESAT.

2.3 Register the software to receive updates for equipment

Please register the software by sending an e--mail to [email protected] and become a

registered ESAT--user. All registered ESAT--users will receive information when there

are a new release of the ESAT software or new firmware to load into equipment.

3 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

3.1 Insert the ESAT CD--ROM

Note! Install software before connecting the CAN interface to the computer.

The ESAT software are delivered on a CD --ROM with autostart. If the the autostart is

disabled in Windows then run the ESAT.exe that can be found on the CD--ROM.

If installation is to be successful, the

user must be logged in as the

system administrator or have the

rights to install programs on the

computer.

Insert the CD into your

laptop/desktop and follow the

instructions described below.

S At the welcome messege,

click on Next.

S Select the components to

install.

The preselected components

are required to run ESAT with

the USB2CAN--interface.

S VCI, drivers required for all

USB interfaces

S USB2CAN, drivers required

for the USB2CAN

S ESAT, ESAB software

administration tool

S Asiob2--Bus--Server, tool

for tracing and recording of

the CAN--bus

S Adobe Reader 9, software

for reading PDF--files.

S Click on Next.

S You are now ready to start

installation, click on Next.

The installation wizard initiates.

S Read through the “Read Me

File” then click on Next.

S Select your type of equipment:

S Welding equipment

S Cutting equipment.

S Click on Next.

S Select your type of interface

S PPCAN for the parallel port

interface

S IXXAT and USB2CAN(Atas)

for USB interface

S Click on Next.

S Choose destination folder.

S To confirm the default

installation folder, click on

Next.

S To select a different

installation folder, click on

Browse and select a

different folder.

S Select “Program manager

group”.

S To confirm the default

“Program manager group”,

click on Next.

S To select a different

“Program manager group”,

click at the name of the

group. Then click on Next.

S To make a new “Program

manager group”, click on

ESAT v1.5 and type in a

new name. Then click on

Next.

S To install ESAT click on Next.

S ESAT software will be installed.

3.2 Installation of the Asiob2--Bus--Server

Optional software for tracing and recording of CAN--bus communication.

S If selected the installation

wizard will install

Asiob2--Bus--Server. Click on

Next to continue the software

installation.

S Read the notes for

Asiob2Server then click on

Next.

S Choose destination folder:

S To confirm the default

installation folder, click on

S To select a different

installation folder, click on

Browse and select a

different folder.

S To start the installation, click on

Next.

S Asiob2Server has been

installed, click on Next.

3.3 Installation of USB2CAN drivers

Required for USB2CAN--interface.

S If selected, the installation

wizard will install USB2CAN

drivers. Click on Next.

S Installing of software in

progress.

S The ESAT software has not

been verified against Windows

Logo testing, click Continue

anyway.

S The drivers for USB2CAN has

been installed, click on Finish.

3.4 Installing Adobe Reader 9

Optional software for reading PDF--files.

S The installation wizard will

continue with the installation of

Adobe Reader 9.

S To change destination

folder, click on Change

Destination folder and

change to desired folder.

S To continue with the

installation, click on Next.

S To install, click on Next.

S Installation in progress.

S Setup completed, click on

Finish.

3.5 Installation of VCI

VCI, Virtual Card Interface is needed for the USB interfaces.

S Click on Next.

S Read the licens agreement and

mark the radiobutton at

“I accept the agreement“

S Click on Next.

S Select destination folder for the

software.

S To change destination

folder, type the new

destination in the text box.

S Or click on Browse and

point and click to the

desired folder.

S To continue with the installation,

click on Next.

S Select “Start Menu Folder”

(Program manager group).

S To select a different “Start

Menu Folder”, type the new

destination in the text box.

S Or click on Browse and

point and click to the

desired folder.

S To continue with the installation,

click on Next.

S Mark preferred options, click on

Next.

The “Create a desktop icon for

all users/for current user only”

are usefull if there are different

user accounts at the computer

that have different tasks.

S The choosen options are

displayed, click on Next.

All steps of the software installation are now completed.

4 CONNECTING THE INTERFACE

4.1 Connection to the power source with PPCAN

S Connect the CAN adapter to the printer port on the computer.

S Connect the CAN cable to the CAN adapter.

S Connect the other end to the CAN bus outlet on the power source.

4.2 Connection to the power source with USB2CAN

S Connect the USB2CAN adapter to the USB port on the computer.

S Connect the CAN cable to the CAN adapter.

S Connect the other end to the CAN bus outlet on the power source.

5 The USB2CAN INTERFACE

5.1 Indicators

S USB--OK, green LED. Indicates working USB connection.

S Error, r ed LED. Indicates error. Try restarting systems and software.

S CAN, yellow LED. Indicates communication at the CAN--bus.

S Status, flashing green LED. Indicates a correct working USB2CAN.

5.2 Frontpanel switch

S 120R, terminates the CAN--bus with 120 Ohm inside the USB2CAN. Use when

connected on the end of a CAN--bus.

S Open, use when connected to the CAN--bus between the other equipment on

the CAN--bus.

6.1 List bar

6.1.1 File

S New,

New will close the open files and empty the wor kspace.

S Open,

Use Open to open an existing load file.

S Save/Save as,

Use Save/Save as to save modified or new load files.

S Exit,

Use Exit to close the program.

6.1.2 Options

S Select CAN hardware

S Simulation (IpME) Used if running ESAT together with simulation--CD.

(The user does not need any additional licences for starting ESAT from the

CD).

S PPCAN

S VCI

S USB2CAN

Used to select the particular CAN adapter.

After a new installation of ESAT, check this menu option so the right CAN

hardware is selected.

S Select CAN busspeed

S 125 kbit/s

S 250 kbit/s

S 400 kbit/s (Default)

S 500 kbit/s

S 889 kbit/s

Used to select communication speed. Check servicemanual for the connected

equipment for the correct busspeed.

S Select Hex/Dec, or .

Used to select data format, Hexadecimal or Decimal.

With choice how the numerical values in the CAN--message shall be presented.

S Reconfig CAN hardware,

Used when a new initialisation of the CAN hardware needs to be done.

This CAN occur if the power to the hardware disappears.

S Change equipment

S welding equipment

S cutting equipment.

Used if you want to change equipment.

6.1.3 Help

S Help,

Used for information of the program, in the form of name and version number.

The information display.

6.2 Tool bar

With the keys in the tool bar the same functions as from the menus can be used.

Open an existing file (only for fcf and fcb program load files, not for syd,

synergic lines).

Create a new file, will close the open files and empty the workspace.

Save file.

Present hexadecimal data.

Present decimal data.

Reconfiguration of CAN hardware.

Information of name and version number in the ESAT program.

6.3 Main functions

ESAT has four main functions, each represented by its own tab.

6.3.1 Load program

The Load program tab makes it possible to upgrade units of all CAN--bus products.
