1 INTRODUCTION
ESAT “ESAB Software Administration Tool” is a computer program.
The software update is made from a PC--computer, and from the ESAT it is possible
to update the software units.
The software update has to be performed by a trained service man.
The PC is connected to the welding equipment by a cable connector and a CAN
adapter.
ESAT contains also following service functions:
S control, change or read the different functions in the equipment
S changing of basic settings
S handling of synergy lines.
1.1 This document
This document describes what the various menues in the ESAT installation program
means, and what the various selection options do.
For the installation and use of ESAT program the following parts are recommended:
S Computer
S Operating system: Windows 9x, NT4, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
S One printer port (LPT) to connect the CAN adapter.
S The Service Kit include:
S CAN adapter MECEL PPCAN
S Connection Cable between CAN adapter and power source
S CAN adapter software
S ESAT software.
To make an update of the system, you will also need an application pr ogr am upgr ade.
This program will be sent to registered ESAT users by e--mail.
Please register by sending an e--mail to [email protected] and become a registered
ESAT--user. All registered ESAT--users will receive information when there are a new
release of software or updates of ESAT.

3.3 Main functions
ESAT (ESAB Software Administration Tool) has four main functions, each
represented by its own tab.
3.3.1 Load program
The Load program tab makes it possible to upgrade units of all CAN--bus products.
Unit types
S Weld data unit 0
S Cooler unit 1
S Power source 2
S Wire feeder unit 3
S Remote control unit 4
S AC control unit 5
S Motor driver unit 6
S Communication unit 7
Use the ’Search’ button to identify what units (types) there are in the system (i.e.
connected to the CAN bus). This will display all available units in the ’Found units on
CAN net’ box (see Figure 10).

3. Press the
button to initiate the CAN hardware.
(The PPCAN adapter get it‘s voltage supply from the power source. Every time
the power source is being restarted, the adapter also is restarted. The adapter
must then be initiated with actual parameters for the communication, for
example, busspeed).
4. Switch ON the power source.
5. Press the ‘Search’ button within 5 seconds, to stop the units in boot state.
The units:

3.3.2 Service function s / Application mode
The unit must be in application mode for using service functions.
The Service function tab makes it possible to test different functions in the machine
and set u p the system, after the customers requirements.
For example:
S Change the machine type of the units in the m achine
(Simple spare parts handling).
S Read the error log, service and fault--tracing.
S Change synergic group
(Adaption of the machine after the customers r equirements).
S Lock the panel to your language.
(Adaption of the machine after the customers r equirements).
S Test the fan and gas valve, service functions.
S Reset the machine.
Use this page to send messages to the system, either manually via the ’Send CAN
message’ box or via the menus in the ’Service function selection’ box (see Figure 11).
(This will only be used in exceptional cases and after contact with the development
division).
The drop--down windows control the message addresses and the content of each
message to be sent. T he list below explains the various drop--down items (see
Figure 11).

3.3.3 Default settings
The Default setting tab makes it possible to change some values (which are not
accessible in the control panel).
For example in U6:
S Change the hot start settings for MMA.
S Change the crater fill settings in MIG/MAG.
S Set the gas pre--flow and post--flow time.
S Change the control type.
The page ”Default settings” (se Figure 12) is used to manipulate and read
parameters that not are available from the control panel.

3.3.4 Synergic upload / download
The weld data units from ESAB contains default synergic data for combinations of
wire type, gas type and wire dimension.
The Synergic upload / download tab makes it possible to:
S upload your own synergic lines from U8
S save the synergic lines in files o n the computer
S compose synergic groups from different files
S download synergic lines
S combine synergic lines from opened synergic package files (*.syd) and uploaded lines.
Figure 13. The “Synergic upload / download” window
1 Weld data unit search
Before any action can be taken in, synergic upload or download a search for welding
data units has to be made. However, it is possible to open several synergic
packages and to combine those and save in a new file before any search for units
has been done.
GB
-- 1 8 --
bi11d1ea
2 Upload
To upload data from the welding
device click on the ‘Upload’ button.
(Only lines in group 99 for MA6 and
U6 and own creative lines in U8 can
be uploaded).
If an error occurred during upload for
example if the unit did not have any
upload able data, the error would be
displayed to the user in form of a
message box indicating what went wrong.
If the upload list is populated it is now possible to save the uploaded synergic data to
file. To save the data to file click on the ‘Save’ button. Choose a destination and click
OK.
If another upload is made the previously uploaded data will be lost if it has not been
saved to disc.
3 Open file
To open an existing file (*.syd), click on
the ‘Open file’ button.
Note that syd--files only can be opened.
Choose the file to open and click OK.
If the file is in correct file format and a
synergic package file, the open file list
will be populated.
The little yellow book represented the
synergic package (the open file) while
the little grey and yellow symbols and
their lines represents synergic lines.
If the package column is dragged to the right the file name will be visible in the first
package line.
4 Download and combine
If either the upload list or the open file
list are populated it is possible to move
synergic lines to the “combine list.
Right next to the open file list and the
upload list an arrow button is visible.
These buttons is out greyed if its
corresponding list is not populated.
To move a synergic line or a synergic
package select the line and click on the
corresponding ‘Arrow’ button.
Multiple lines can be selected.
To select multiple lines hold down the
control button on the keyboard (Ctrl)
and click on the lines to mark more
files.
In the open file list, whole packages can be moved by marking the file name and
then click on the ‘Move’ button.
Note that the lines that you moved are essentially copied since no lines are removed
while clicking on the arrow button.
GB
-- 1 9 --
bi11d1ea
To save a combined packet, click on the ‘Save’ button and select the destination to
save.
If the combine list is populated it is possible to download the combined list to the
welding data unit.
(There are limitations for how many lines that can be downloaded to the m achine,
max 10 lines per method and per material. For example 10 pcs F e short arc and 10
pcs Fe pulse).
To start a download click on the ‘Download’ button. If the download fails, an error
message box will be displayed.
Download is finished when the progress bar reaches hundred percent. After
download, a message box indicates to restart the unit.
Remark: If the download lists contain one or more lines that have incomplete choices it cannot be
downloaded to the welding data unit. Incomplete in this sense means that the synergic line does not
have a choice for method, material, gas or dimension. Alternatively, the corresponding choice has no
text that can be displayed.
Notes
Figure 14 Notes
It is possible to add a note to the synergic packages. This note will be saved in the
file with the synergic data.
The list displays the file version, global list version and the machine identity. In the
editable section, write your note. To save the note, click on the “Add note” button. To
close the note hit the close button.
Note that no note information will be saved to the welding device.
