–Disconnectbatteriesformaximumprotection.
Whenyoureceiveamobilitydeviceforserviceanditsbatteriesare
connected,youshoulddisconnectthemimmediatelybeforeleaving
themobilitydeviceunattended.Otherwise,onamobilitydevicewith
afaultcondition,connectedbatteriescombinedwithasecondary

Markallcurrentsettingsforthemobilitydevice(seat,
armrests,backrestetc.),andtheassociatedcableconnecting
plugs,beforedismantling.Thismakesreassemblyeasier.All
plugsarefittedwithmechanicalsafetydeviceswhichprevent
releaseoftheconnectingplugsduringoperation.Torelease
theconnectingplugsthesafetydevicesmustbepressedin.
Whenreassemblingensurethatthesesafetydevicesare
correctlyengaged.

1.Onthe4–pinmotorconnectorB,locatethetwocontactsin
theREDandBLACKhousings.
2.Setthedigitalmultimetertomeasureresistance(ohms).
3.Measuretheresistancebetweenthetwomotorcontacts.
Anormalreadingisbetween0.5and5ohms,depending
onthemotorA.
Areadingof0ohmsorinexcessof15ohmsindicates
aproblem.Highreadingsaregenerallycausedbybad
connectionsand/ordamagedbrushes.ContactInvacare.

brake
Thisprocedureshouldonlybeperformedonmobility
deviceswithconventionalmotor/gearboxassembly.
1.Engagethemotorengaginglever,referto4.4.1Disengaging

connectorsintheblackhousings.
3.Setthemultimetertomeasureresistance(ohms).
4.Measuretheresistancebetweenthetwobrakecontacts.
Anormalreadingisbetween45–100ohmsdepending
onthemotorA.
Areadingof0ohmsoraveryhighreading(Megaohms
orO.L.(outoflimits))indicatesashortedbrakeor
anopenconnectionrespectively.Ifeithercondition
exists,sendthemotortoInvacareTechnicalServicefor
inspection/repair.
WARNING!
Ashortedelectro-mechanicalbrakewilldamage
thebrakeoutputsectioninthepowermodule.
–Donotconnectashortedelectro-mechanicalbrake
toagoodpowermodule.Ashortedbrakemustbe
replaced.
Abadmotorcandamagethepowermodulebutabadpower
modulewillnotdamageamotor.
3.3Raintest
•ChecktoensurethattheREDandGREYbatteryterminalcaps
aresecuredinplace,remotebootisnottornorcrackedwhere
watercanenterandthatallelectricalconnectionsaresecure
atalltimes.
•Donotusethemobilitydeviceiftheremotebootistornor
cracked.Iftheremotebootbecomestornorcracked,replace
immediately.
3.4Fieldloadtest
Oldbatteriesloosetheirabilitytostoreandreleasepowerdueto
increasedinternalresistance.Inthisprocedure,batteriesaretested
underloadusingadigitalvoltmetertocheckbatterychargelevel
atthechargerconnector.Thechargerconnectorislocatedonthe
remote.Whenvoltageattheoutputdrops1.0voltsunderload(2.0
forapair),replacethebatteries.
Readtheseinstructionscarefullyandthemanufacturer’s
instructionsonthedigitalvoltmeterbeforeproceeding.
1.SwitchtheelectronicsOFFontheremote.
2.Makesurebatteryisfullycharged.Anextremelydischarged
batterywillexhibitthesamesymptomsasabadbattery.
3.Removethefootboard/legrestsfromthemobilitydevice.
4.
ConnectthevoltmeterleadstothechargerconnectorAonthe
mobilitydevice.MostdigitalvoltmetersBarenotaffectedby
polarity.However,analogmeters(meterswithswingingneedles)
canbeandshouldbeusedcarefully.
Agoodmeterreadingshouldbe25.5to26VDCwith
thechairinneutral.
WARNING!
–Whenperformingtheremainingsteps,ensureyour
feetareclearfromcastersandwall,otherwiseinjury
mayresult.
5.Runthemobilitydeviceinneutralforatleast2minutes.
6.Sitinmobilitydeviceandplaceyourfeetagainstadoorjam,
workbenchorotherstationaryobject.
7.Carefullypushtheremoteforward,tryingtodrivethemobility
devicethroughthestationaryobject.Theloadshoulddraw
between30to40ampsfromthebatteriesfor0.3seconds.
Performingthisstepputsaheavyloadonthebatteries
astheytrytopushthroughthestationaryobject.Ifthe
wheelsspin,havetwoindividuals(oneoneacharm)
applyasmuchdownwardpressureaspossibleonthe
armsofthemobilitydevice.
8.Readthemeterwhilethemotorsarestrainingtodeterminethe
voltageunderload.
Ifthevoltagedropsmorethan2voltsfromapairoffully
chargedbatteriesduringthe0.3seconds,theyshouldbe
replacedregardlessoftheunloadedvoltages.

beforehand.
Installationtakesplaceinreverseorder.Alwaysensurethat
thewheelisreplacedonthesamesideandinthesame
directionasitwasremoved.
7.Applythewheelrimhalvestothewheelagain.
Wheninstallingtheouterrimintoapneumatictire
ensurethevalvestemoftheinnertubeprotrudes
throughthestemopeningintheouterrim.
8.InsertthehubEintotheinnerrimDandalignthefourmounting
holesofthehubandthewheelrimhalves.
Ensurethattheinnertubeisnotclampedbetweenthewheel
rimhalves.
9.Ensurethatthetireiscontactingthewheelrimdirectly.
10.Securetheouterrimtotheinnerrimandhubwiththescrews,
washersandlocknuts.
Tightenthelocknutswith20Nm(±10%).
11.Inflatethetiretotherecommendedpressure.Refertothe
TechnicalspecificationsintheUserManual.
12.Ensurethatthetireisstillcloselycontactingthewheelrim.
