SAFE OPERATION 1
A
SAFE
OPERATION
Careful operation is your best insurance against an
accident. Read this section carefully before operating the
mower and the grass catcher.
All operators, no matter
how much experience they may have had,
should read
this
manual, the mower manual, the machine manual, and
other related manuals before operating the mower and
the grass catcher.
It is the owner's obligation to instruct all
operators
in
safe operation.
1. BEFORE OPERATING
Operator
1.
Allow only a properly trained person to operate the
machine.
2.
Do not operate the machine while under the influence
of
alcohol, medication, other substances or while
fatigued.
3.
Be thoroughly familiar with the controls and learn how
to stop
quickly
in
an
emergency. Know your equipment
and its
limitations.
4. Do not wear loose, torn, or bulky clothing around
machine. The clothing may catch
on
moving parts or
controls, leading to the risk of accident.
Wear and use any
additional safety items such as hard
hat, safety boots or shoes, eye and hearing protection,
gloves, etc., as appropriate or required.
5.
Never allow children to operate the mower and the
grass catcher, even under
adult supervision.
6.
Do not ride on or put anything
on
any grass catcher
component.
Machine, blades and equipment
1.
Never operate the mower without proper guards,
shields, and all grass catcher components or
discharge deflector
in
place.
2.
The mower and the grass catcher are equipped with
many safety devices.
Do not
alter or remove any part of safety system for
you r safety.
3.
Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure the
mower is
in
safe working condition.
4.
Inspect the impeller for wear and damage. The
impeller that
is
worn out, bent, cracked or otherwise
damaged must be
replaced.
5.
Replace damaged or illegible safety labels.
See
the following page for required labels.
6.
Make sure the machine is counterweighted as
recommended by this
manual. Weights provide the
necessary
balance to prevent tip-over or loss of
traction or steering.
Working area
1.
Thoroughly inspect the area where the mower and the
grass catcher are to be used.
Remove
all stones, sticks, wires, bones and other
objects that
could be thrown at high speed.
2.
Keep the area of operation clear of all persons,
particularly small children, and pets.
All people and pets should
be
kept at a safe distance
from the work area.
2. OPERATING
Starting
1.
Never start engine or operate levers from anywhere
other than the seat.
2.
Before starting the engine make sure that the motion
control levers are
in
neutral lock, the parking brake
is
applied, and Power Take Off (PTO)
is
disengaged
(OFF).
Operation
1.
Keep bystanders at a safe distance from the machine
during mowing operations.
2.
Do not allow passengers, children or non-qualified
operators
on
the machine / mower / grass catcher at
any time. The operator must remain
in
the machine
seat throughout operation.
3.
While making turns
in
rough terrain, reduce machine
speed.
4. Do not mow
while
in
reverse unless absolutely
necessary and then only after inspecting the entire
area behind the mower and the grass catcher.
Be extra
careful
of
children.
5.
Upon striking a foreign object, stop and inspect the
machine, the mower and the grass catcher for
damage. Repair the damage before resuming
operation.
6.
If the grass catcher chute becomes clogged, stop the
machine; disengage the mower drive; shut off the
engine and remove the key, and clean out the chute
before continuing.
7.
Hillside operation is dangerous and is not
recommended.
If it is necessary to use the grass
catcher
on
a hillside, use extreme caution. To avoid
tipping over, operate across
slopes, not up and down.
8.
Do not use the grass catcher on steep inclines, rough
terrain or near drop-offs.
9.
Do not mow on wet grass. Reducing traction could
cause sliding and loss of control.
10.
Do not park the machine on dry grass or leaves.
2 .SAFE OPERATION
3.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
1.
Never attempt to make adjustments or repairs of any
kind
while the machine
and
the mower are running.
Shut off the engine, remove the
key,
set the parking
brake and
allow the blades
and
the impeller to stop.
2.
To reduce fire hazards, clean the machine thoroughly
before storage. Dry grass
and
leaves around the
engine
and
the muffler may ignite.
3.
Moisture content
in
most grasses
can
damage the
mower
and
the grass catcher if these components are
not
properly cleaned after use. Also, dry grass
and
leaves left
in
the container
can
be
a fire hazard.
Always make sure the container
and
the duct are clean
and
completely empty before storage.
4.
The cloth grass bags are subject to wear
and
deterioration. Check them frequently. Use only
genuine replacement bags from KUBOTA.
