XVS-2 update
The following features are no longer supported by XVS-2. Any and all references to these features, related
setup, and hardware information should be disregarded.
- Standby operate including support for a separate Data Server.
- Content storage installation (for Operate systems only Operate, XML Blaster, Live Data, and Data Ser-
vices installs are needed and supported).
- Live video capture for both Operate and Playback systems.
- Digital Audio - support to play audio files or audio embedded in video files is still supported though as
analog audio.

1. Introduction
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Real time data management
RTD
Real Time Data is inform ation availa ble in real time.
RDE
Real Time Data engine. Window service responsible for managing the RTD coming from the
service and deliver it to the player.
What is Real Time Data management?
The real time data management system controls incoming data from any data sources, e.g.:
software packages
hardware, such as a temperature sensor, etc.
web sites (RSS feeds)
How RTD collects its information
RTD collects its data via Services that are managed by the RDE.
This RDE c ontains some standard built-in services, but can be extended by external services that must
be declared in the RDE.
This RDE sends the collected data to one or more displays. A display with a scheduled messa
ge can
display the information.
1.2 XVS RTD startup
Default
During installation, XVS Live Data will be configured to startup with Windows operating system. If this
behavior is not desired, you may remove it from Startup (Start All Pro gram s Startup)
How to start RTD manually?
1. On the desktop, click on the XVS-2 RTD icon ( ).
Or,
click on Start All Programs Barco XVS-2 Live Data XVS-2 RTD
The application starts up and an application icon will be added to the system tray.

2.1 Introduction
Overview
The RTD System Manager module gives an overview of the known services and makes it possible to
manage these services by activating or deactivating services as well as creating new servi
ces.
How to open RTD System Manager
1. Right click on the XVS RTD system tray icon. (image 2-1)
A pop-up menu appears.
2. Select RTD System Manager.
The RTD System Manager window opens.

The RTD System Manager window contains at least 2 panes:
the services pane, with online and offline services and also actions
the service properties pane.
The description pane can be switched on and off with the description toggle button in the toolbar.
2.3 About services
Service
Services are internal or extern
al programs that collect information for the R DE. These services
can be on line or offline.

Online service
Online services are services that are logged on to the RDE and are able to send information to the RDE.
While in th e o nline state, the service ca n b e
activated : service is logged on and sends information to the RDE. An ’active’ icon (
) indicates the
active state of the service.
deactivated : the service is logged on but sends no information to the RDE. An ’inactive’ icon (
)in
front of the service indicates the inactive state of the service.
Offline service
The service is known by the RDE but is not logged on. E.g. software package providing the information
is not started. When the software is started, logon information will be exchanged with the RDE. When the
logon procedure is terminated with success, the offline service becomes online.
An offline service is indicated by an ’inactive’ ico n in front of the service name.
2.4 Service Properties
What is possible?
From each service , o nlin e o r offline, it is possible to display th e se rvice properties a
nd the service fields.
The service properties are an identity card for the service and are used to logon the service to the RDE.
The service fields give the different fields that are provided by the service.
How to display the properties
1. Click on a service (online or offline) in the service ove rv iew pane. (image 2-3)
The properties of the selected service are displayed in the properties pane.
- for an online service : the properties of the service and the service fields available in the service are
displayed.
- for an offline service : only the properties of the s ervice are displayed.

2.5 Organizing the services properties pane
Organize by category
1. Click on in the toolbar.
The service properties will be organized by category. E.g. first service properties, followed by the
service fields, etc. (image 2 -4 )

1. Click on icon to expand the complete tree.

2.7 Description pane
How to toggle the pane?
1. Click on the Show/hide description pane icon ( ) to toggle the description pane at the bottom of the
properties pane.
This pane gives extra information about the selected field (service) in the properties pane.
A square around the button indicates that it is pressed.
2.8 Configure an online service
What can be done?
How the incoming information of a service is displayed can be configured in the service configuration.E.g.
how a time indication is displayed can b e different in Europe and in the US.
Not all services can be configured. Some services have predefined configurations.
How to configure a service
1. Right click on an online service (a). (image 2-6)
A pop-up menu appears (b).
2. Select Live Data Source Co n figurat ion (b).
The fields that can be configured are displayed in the service field configuration pane in a table form.
The left column shows the name of the field, which cannot be changed, while the right column shows
the property which can be changed. The cont
ent of this pane can change from service to service.
If the selected service does not have any properties which can be configured, nothing is displayed in
the right pane.

3. Click on the property to be changed and change it accordingly.
Sometimes a drop down box opens or a dialog box appears, depending on the property type.
4. When all changes have been made, click on Save to save the service configuration.

2.9 Activate - Deactivate an online service

A pop-up menu will be displayed.
2. Select Activate Live Data Source (b).
The service is activated. An ’active’ icon appears in front of the service (c).

2. Select Deactivate Live Data Source (b).
The service is deactivated. An ’inactive’ icon appears in front of the service (c).

2.10 Remove an offline service
Only offline services can be removed from the list of services. Online services based
on an RSS feed must be removed via the R SS feed services.
How to remove an offline service
1. Right click on an offline service (a). (image 2-9)
A pop-up menu appears.
2. Select Remove Service (b).
The service is removed from the list.

A new service will b e created in the right pan e with the following ’fill ou t’ fields (b):
- Service Login: NameusedbytheservicetologontotheRDE
- Service Password: password used by the service to logon to the R DE
- Service Name: name of t he service as displayed in the list of services.
2. Click in the Servic e L og in input field (c) and fill out the login information that will be used to logon to the
RDE (d).
3. Click in the Service Password input field and fill out a password that will be used by the service to logon
to the RDE.
4. Click in the Service Name input field and fill out a name for the service.
This name is u se d to display the service in the list of services.
5. Click on Finish (e).
The service is created as on offline service and added to the list of Offline services.
The service is able to logon to the RDE, based on the login and password provided by the operator.

3. RSS FEED SERVICES
RSS
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a way to easily distribute a list of h ea dlines,
update notices, and sometimes content to a wide number of people. It is used by computer
programs that organize those headlines and notices for easy reading.
RSS feeds
Also called a channel. RSS feeds allow you to stay up to date with the latest news and features
you wa nt from a specific web site.
3.1 Activate the RSS feed service window

1. Right click on XVS RTD system tray icon. (image 3-1)
A pop-up menu appears.
2. Select Live Data and move the mouse to the right.
A menu expands with a sub menu.
3. Click on RSS feeds Manager.

3.3 Accessing the Internet
Only necessary when a proxy server is used to access the Internet.
This set up has to be done only the first time when trying to access the Internet.

A proxy server is a server that acts as an intermediary between a workstation user and the
Internet so that the enterprise can ensure security, administrative control, and caching service
