ControlTemp Basic Tamper Proof Thermostat Operating instructions

  • Hello! I've reviewed the supplemental instructions for the CT72, CT74, and CT76 thermostats. This document covers wiring configurations and terminal functions. I understand these thermostats can operate with or without batteries when connected to the C terminal and that wire function is key, not wire color. I'm prepared to answer your questions about these thermostats.
  • Can the thermostat be used without batteries?
Does the color of the wires matter?
What should I do before removing my old thermostat?
Common Wiring Configurations
Two wire heat only should be connected to Rh/B and W
Three wire furnace w/o AC should be connected to Rh/B, W, G
Four wire furnace with AC should be connected to Rh/B, W, Y and G
Single stage Heat Pump should be connected to R, G, Y, Rc/O (cool)
or Rh/B (heat)
Note: Before removing your old thermostat, label what wires are connected to which terminals.
You should connect the wires to the same terminals on the CT72/CT74/CT76 units.
Keep Jumper in place.
Thermostat can be used with or without batteries if connected to the C terminal.
The colors do not matter. What matters is what function the wire performs.
