A1.DuetothesecurenatureoftheDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceenvironment,certainpagesmaynot

displaycorrectly.Therestrictionshavebeenputintoplacetoprovidethesafestbrowsing

environmentpossible,butthisdoescausesomelimitations.Toviewthispageinanunprotected

browser,clickonthepreferencesdropdownlocatedonthetopedgeofthebrowserwindow.From

thedropdown,select“UnprotectCurrentPage”andthatpagewillbereopenedinthenative

browser.

Q2.InolongerwantDellDataProtection|ProtectedWorkspacetobemydefaultbrowser,how

toIturnitoff?

A2.Justlikeanyotherwebbrowser,youcandisableDDP|ProtectedWorkspacefrombeingyour

defaultbrowserbyopeningupanyothernativebrowserandsettingthatasthedefaultbrowser.

Q3.IwanttojustuseDellDataProtection|ProtectedWorkspaceforinternetbrowsing,notfor

viewingdocuments,howdoIturnoff thedocumentprotectionfeature?

A3a.Todisablethedocumentprotectionfeatureforalldocuments,gointothePreferencesmenu

andchoosetheAppstab.Foreachapplicationthatislisted,makesurethat“EnableDocument

Protection”optionisnotchecked.

intothePreferencesmenuandchoosetheAppstab.Forthefiletypethatyouwishtoremove

paneforeachapplication.

Q4.EverymorningwhenIsitdownatmycomputer,thereisamessageboxthatsays“A

restoreisrecommended”,whyisthis?

A4.Thisdialogboxisdisplayedwhenevertheproducttriestoinitiateanauto‐restore.Itislikely

thattheauto‐restoretimerissettoatimewhenyouarenotintheoffice,sothisdialogboxappears

duringtheeveninghourswhenthecomputerisstillrunningandtheuseraccountisstillloggedon.

ThisfeaturecanbeconfiguredfromthePreferencesmenu,undertheauto‐restoretobettercontrol

whentheauto‐restorehappensortodisablethefeature

uptodate.Thisdialogwillappearanytimeanewupdatehasbeendownloadedandisnowbeing

applied.Aftertheupgradecompletes,theproductwillstartasitnormallydoes.

Q7.WhenstartingDellDataProtection|ProtectedWorkspaceforthefirsttime,itasksmefor

anActivationKey?WheredoIgetone?

A7.DDP|ProtectedWorkspacedoesnotrequireyoutoenteranactivationkey;howeveritdoes

requireyoutohaveanactiveinternetconnectionwhenrunningitforthefirsttime.Ifyoureceive

thiswindowpressthered“X”inthetopcorner,verifyyouhaveanactiveinternetconnectionthen

runtheproductagain.Itwillstartsuccessfullyonceanactiveconnectionisestablished.

Q8.I’veinstalledMozillaFirefoxonmyPC,butitdoesnotshowupasanavailablebrowser

withintheDellDataProtection|ProtectedWorkspaceproduct.IthoughtMozillaFirefoxwas

supported?

A8.MozillaFirefoxisasupportedapplicationwithintheDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceproduct,

howeveronlycertainversionsaresupportedcurrently.YoumustberunningFirefoxversion10‐19

forittoappearasaprotectedapplicationwithinDDP|ProtectedWorkspace.

Q9.ApopupappearedsayinganewappwasdetectedandIneedtorestoreDellData

Protection|ProtectedWorkspace.Whatdoesthismean?

A9.DDP|ProtectedWorkspacesupportsavarietyofdifferentapplications,howevernotallofthese

applicationsareinstalledonyourmachinewhenitfirstarrives.Ifasupportedapplication(suchas

AdobeFlashorJava)isinstalledwhileDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceisrunning,theproductneedsto

berestoredbeforeitisabletoprotectthatapplication.Pressingthe“RestoreNow”buttononthe

messageboxwillresettheprotectedenvironmentwithsupportforthenewlyinstalledapplication.

Q10.Itriedtoinstallanadd‐oninprotectedFirefox,butafterIrestore,theadd‐onisnolonger

there,whyisthis?

A10.DDP|ProtectedWorkspaceisdesignedtobeasecurebrowsingenvironment.Sincetoolbars

andadd‐onsareaknownvectorformalwareattacks,DDP|ProtectedWorkspaceremovesthese

add‐onsandtoolbarsaftereveryrestoretoensureacleanbrowsingenvironment.

Q11:WhenDellDataProtection|ProtectedWorkspacestartsup,itdisplaysanInternet

Explorerwindow.CanIchangethistoanotherbrowser?

A11:YoucanchangethepreferredbrowserthatDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceuses(theonethatwill

openwhentheproductlaunchorahyperlinkisaccessed)inthePreferencesmenu.Startbyright‐

clickingontheDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceIconintheSystemTray.Fromthemenu,choosethe

Preferencesoption.Next,selecttheAppstab.OntheAppstab,bothInternetExploreandMozilla

Firefox(ifinstalledonthesystem)willbeavailableasanoption.Selectthebrowseryouwishtobe

preferred,andthenselecttheoption“Usethisbrowsertoopenwebpages.”Oncethisoptionhas

beenselectedforthechosenbrowserpressokayonthePreferencesmenutoconfirmthechange.

Now,thenexttimetheproductisrestarted,oriftheDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceiconisclicked,the

newlyselectedbrowserwillopenintheprotectedenvironment.

Q12:Whentryingtoaccess“Viewobjects”and“Viewfiles”undertheTemporaryInternetFiles

andHistorySettingsinInternetExplorer,nothinghappens.Whyisthis?

A12:ThisInternetExplorerfunctionisblockedbydesignintheprotectedenvironment.Thisisto

ensurethatthehostenvironmentisnotsusceptibletoamaliciousattack.

Q13:WhenviewingtheservicespriortofirstrunofDellDataProtection|Protected

Workspace,theInvinceaEnterpriseServiceandtheSboxSvcservicesaredisabledandnot

running.Isthisnormal?

A13:AllDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceservicesaredisableduntilthefirstrun.Oncetheproductis

startedforthefirsttime,theseserviceswillbechangedfrom“Disabled”to“Automatic”andwillbe

started.

Q14:Ausersettheirhomepagetoatrustedsiteandnoweverytimetheytrytoopena

protectedbrowserinDellDataProtection|ProtectedWorkspace,anunprotectedwindow

appears.HowcanIcorrectthis?

A14:Tocorrectthisissue,gototheAppstabofthepreferencesmenuforDDP|Protected

WorkspaceandremovetheURLforthehomepagefromthetrustedsiteslist.Oncethisisdone,

launchanewbrowserwindowinDDP|PWanditwillremainintheprotectedenvironment.The

usercanthenchangetheirhomepageintheprotectedbrowser,andre‐addtheoriginaltrustedsite

backtotheirtrustedsitelist.

Q15:Sometimeswhenanewprotectedapplicationwindowisopen,itopensbehindotheropen

windows.Isthereawaytofixthis?

A15:ThisisacurrentknownissuewithDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceandasofthisversionthereis

nocurrentworkaround.Someapplicationwindowswillopenbehindotheropenapplication

windows.Youcanfindanewlyopenedapplicationwindowbylookingfortheblinkingicononthe

taskbar.

Q16:The“Blockunsafefileextensionsfromdownloading”includesalargelistoffiletypes.Is

thereawaytomodifythislist?

A16:FromwithDDP|ProtectedWorkspacethereisnowaytomodifythedefaultlist.However,by

upgradingtotheInvinceaEnterpriseproduct(www.invincea.com)thisisaconfigurableoption.

Q17:SometimeswhenIopenasupporteddocument,Idon’tseeaborderaroundthe

application.AmIstillprotected?

A17:Documentscanonlybeviewedintheprotectedapplicationswhenthefileisopenedfroma

windowsexplorerwindow.Ifauseropensanapplication(suchasMicrosoftWord)directly,then

doesaFileOpen,thisfilewillnotbeprotected.AuserwillneedtobrowsetoMyDocumentsand

doubleclickonthatfileforittoopeninaprotectedsession.

Q18:Whenbrowsingtoaspecificwebsiteoverandoveragain,InoticethataSuspicious

Activityalertalwaysdisplay.I’mprettysurethisisnotamalicioussite,sowhydoesthiskeep

appearing?

becauseitisbeingusedby anothe rprocess.”Whatdoesthismean?

A19:Thiserrorwilloccurwhenauserattemptstoopenadocumentthatiseitherbeingviewedby

anotheruser,orisopenedinanunprotectedenvironmentonyourmachine.Ausercannothavethe

samedocumentopeninbothaprotectedandunprotectedapplication.

Q20:WhydomyinternetbrowsershortcuticonshavetheDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceicon

insteadoftheirdefaulticon?

A20:WhenDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceisthedefaultbrowser,theshortcuticonswillupdatetothe

DDP|PWicontoindicatetheywillbeopenedwithDDP|PW.

Q21:WhentryingtodeletemybrowsinghistoryinInternetExplorerusingtheSafetymenu

(DeleteBrowsingHistoryoption),Inoticethehistorydoesn’timmediatelydisappear.Whyis

this?

BrowsingHistory”optionintheprotectedIEwindowwillworkcorrectly.

document,Igetanerrorthatsays“ThisFeatureisdisabled”.Whyisthis?

A22:ThisfeaturehasbeendisabledinDDP|ProtectedWorkspaceasthesecondarydocument

cannotbeaccessedwhileintheprotectedenvironment.Inordertoopenthesecondarydocument

intheprotectedenvironment,itwillneedtobeaccessedfromWindowsExplorerbydoubleclicking

onthefile.


