Introduction
NOTES AND SUGGESTIONS
All diagrams refer to all kits versions: ush or surface, colour or black & white.
Dashed connections refer to optional connections (“Local bell”, “Push to exit” & “Door monitor”).
Some diagrams show how to connect a 12Vdc electric lock: these directions are suitable for all diagrams in this manual.
Each time a setting is changed on a videophone (address, extension, number of rings etc.), the videophone must be disconnected from
the relevant connection board then after a few seconds reconnected again to allow the recognizing of the new setting.
All diagrams shown are valid for B&W or colour systems with surface or ush mount door station.

This equipment is installed by a Competent Electrician, Security on Communications Engineer
VX2200 is a VIDEX digital system for audio and video door entry systems which can cover installation requirements from a small
system ( 10 users) up to larger systems for big blocks ( 1000 users).
This system is based on a “2 wire bus” connection for the intercom systems and on a “6 wire bus” connection without coax cable
for video systems. ( the cables needed can be respectively 3 and 7 if you use intercom or video intercom models which need an
additional 12Vdc power).
VX2200 system includes two types of door units: analogue door unit which is regularly used for small installations or for those me-
dium-sized installations where users prefer a traditional call panel, while a digital panel is necessary when the installation is big , in
this case a traditional panel would have very large dimension.
The analogical panel is similar to a traditional one , it is used combined with conventional call buttons and it includes the face to
digital which allows to convert and forward a call made through the button on the digital system BUS.
The digital panel looks like a pushbutton with a display, and a b/w or colour camera, depending on the version. The panel allows to
store ( through the codelock o via pc) all users’ information: apartment number, indoor unit address, block address if required, open-
door code ( one for each apartment) and only in the panel with repertory name, the name associated to the apartment.
You can call the apartment by typing the apartment code or , in the version with repertory name, by searching the name of the user.
The system allows to connect up to 998 devices ( intercoms, videointercoms, relays or other bus devices) in those installations which
have a main block only (using block exchangers art. 2206N set to work without local outdoor station) or in those installations with
a main block and secondary blocks.
For each block ( main and secondary ) it is possible to connect up to 10 out- door stations in parallel ( one must be set as a master
outdoor unit and the other ones as slave).
There can be up to 15 secondary blocks and each secondary block can have up to 180 devices installed ( intercoms, videointercoms,
relays or other bus devices) until you reach the max allowance of 998 devices.

DESCRIPTION
The Art.4203 unit is a digital front panel based on a “2 wire
BUS intercom system that enables the connection of traditional
push buttons. This unit is housed in a single 4000 Series mod-
ule and is available in Mirror Stainless Steel (standard nish) or
anodized aluminium (add /A after the product code). It incor-
porates the functional interface connections from functional to
digital and the speaker unit module with 0, 1, 2 or 4 call buttons.
This device enables the connection of up to 64 functional push
buttons using standard 4000 Series extension module panels
Art.4842, Art.4843, Art.4844, Art.4845 and relevant double button
version Art.4842D, Art.4843D, Art.4844D and Art.4845D. The push
buttons already tted to the module are to be subtracted from the
number of those to be inserted, i.e. 4, 2 or 1 according to the model.
The module built-in buttons, 1, 2 or 4 (Art. 4203-1, Art. 4203-1D or
Art. 4203-2 and Art.4203-2D) as factory presetting are set as 1

from the module, you can set the buttons how you want. If a number
of push buttons greater than 64 is required, more Art.4203 modules
can be used to have up to 150 buttons with 900 Series, up to 180 but-
tons with 3000 Series (except intercom Art.316x model) and up to
255 with the low cost intercom Art.316x..All the modules must be
assembled using the 4000 Series ush or surface mounting units.
The Art.4203 can work with 900 Series or 3000 Series or with
the new low cost intercom Art.3161.

LEDS
The rst LED (red), if switched ON, indicates that it is
not possible to make a call because a call or a conver-
sation is in progress (from the outdoor station from
which you are calling or from another outdoor station
on system with multiple entrances).
The second LED (red), if switched ON, indicates that a
call is in progress. The LED will be switched OFF when
the call is answered.
The third LED (yellow), if switched ON, indicates that it is
possible to speak. The LED will be switched OFF at the end
of conversation (or at the end of the conversation time).
The fourth LED (green), if switched ON, means that the
door lock has been operated. It will be switched OFF at
the end of the door opening” time.

PROGRAMMING
The programming is carried out exclusively through the conguration of the two jumpers and the 8 way dip-switch both accessible
from the back of the module. Depending on the 2 jumpers settings, the 8 way Dipswitches have a dierent function.

Switches 2 & 3 dene the range of Phone IDs generated by the unit
when the call buttons are pressed. For example with dip-switch 2
and 3 both OFF, the push button connected between the Art.2203
terminals “1” and “a” generates the ID PHONE 1 while the same
push button, with dip-switch 2 ON and dip-switch 3 OFF, will gen-
erate the PHONE ID 65. The fourth range of push button groups
can be used with the 900 Series intercoms and videointercoms.

The device number is used by the digital concierge to show from which entrance calls are made.
PROGRAMMING NOTES 3000 AND 900 SERIES MODE
In case of a wrong Master/Slave conguration (Dip-switch no.1), the following problems can occur:
a. If the unit should be a Master but is congured as a Slave, the error is signalled by an acoustic intermittent signal until the problem is resolved;
b. If the unit must be Slave but is congured as Master, the impedance of the system will have a lack of balance, causing feedback (“Larsen eect).
When a system uses a concierge unit Art.2210-1 the push button combined to the Phone ID 1 (only with the switches.2 & 3
OFF = ID Group from 1 to 64) is reserved to call the concierge in day or night mode.

OPERATION
Once the Art.4203 has been programmed and connected correctly, it will generate on each pressing of a push button, a code corre-
sponding to the PHONE ID (address programmed on the 8 way dip-switch inside each telephone) of the telephone being called.
TO CALL A USER
Press the relevant button to call the user: 5 quick beeps will indicate if the system is busy, otherwise the call will be signalled by a
slow intermittent acoustic signal until the call is answered, the conversation time expires (programmable time) or the call is inter-
rupted by pressing a push button for a minimum of 2 seconds. A short intermittent acoustic signal indicates that the door is open.
If a wrong push button is pressed or if there is no answer, a new call will erase the previous one.
SPECIAL APPLICATIONS  SYSTEMS USING BLOCK EXCHANGER ART.2206N
In all systems using block exchangers Art.2206N, the main entrance panels which are connected before these exchangers can only
be digital type panels because of technical reasons
In case the system operation requires that the digital panel is only enabled to call the switchboard, it is possible to connect as a main panel
one or more Art.4203 (for Art.4203 instructions) or Art.8203 (for Art.8203 instructions) with one single button only as follows:
Blue wire connected to terminal “8”;
Yellow wire connected to terminal “A”;
Switch 2 on “OFF”;
Switch 3 on “ON”.
Thanks to this conguration the panel can be set as one of the main” panels and when the button is pressed the call is made directly
to the switchboard.
MOUNTING NOTES
We recommend completing the programming of the unit and then connect the extension front panel modules as follows:
Connect the push buttons common connection to one of the Art.2203 terminals marked with numbers from “1” to “8”, depend-
ing on the PHONE IDs required when pressing the push buttons (for example with the dip-switches 2 and 3 both OFF, connecting
the push buttons common to terminal “1”, will enable the PHONE IDs from 1 to 8 to combine with the push buttons, while con-
necting the common to terminal “2” will enable the PHONE IDs from 9 to 16 and so on refer to Fig. 2 and Fig. 3);
Connect each push button of the module to the Art.2203 terminals marked with the letters from “a” to h” depending on the
PHONE ID needed to be combined with the push button (for example having dip-switches 2 and 3 both OFF and the push but-
tons common of the module connected to terminal “2”, connect the push button to terminal “a” to call PHONE ID 9, or b” to call
PHONE ID 10 and so on refer to Fig. 2 and Fig. 3).
In order to achieve the correct combination between the push buttons and the relevant extensions, it is advisable to refer to the
picture at the back of the module for the correct cabling.
The digital concierge cannot be installed on systems using Art.316X intercoms.

HOW TO REMOVE/INSERT THE CARD NAME HOLDER
To avoid damage to the module front plate, mask the side that
will be in contact with the screwdriver blade;
Insert the screwdriver (at side) into the card-holder hole as
shown in Fig. 4;
Move the screwdriver to the left as shown in Fig. 5 to extract
the card name holder;
Edit the card name then replace it inside the holder and ret:
insert the holder inside its housing from the left or right side
then push the other side until it clips into place.

DESCRIPTION
The Art.4283 unit is a digital front panel based on a “2 wire” BUS
intercom system that enables the connection of traditional push
buttons. This unit is housed in a single 4000 Series module and
is available in Mirror Stainless Steel (standard nish) or anodized
aluminium (add /A after the product code). It incorporates the
functional interface connections from functional to digital, the
speaker unit module with 0, 1 or 2 call buttons and includes an
high quality colour CCD Camera with autoiris lens and infrared
illumination LEDs (white light LEDs for colour camera version).
This device enables the connection of up to 32 functional push
buttons using standard 4000 Series extension module panels
Art.4842, Art.4843, Art.4844, Art.4845 and relevant double but-
ton version Art.4842D, Art.4843D, Art.4844D and Art.4845D.
The push buttons already tted to the module are to be sub-
tracted from the number of those to be inserted, i.e. 2 or 1 ac-
cording to the model.
The module built-in buttons, 1 or 2 (Art.4283-1 or Art.4283-1D)
as factory presetting are set as 1st ID PHONE or 1st and 2nd of
the addresses group selected by dipswitches 2, 3 and 4. Oper-
ating on the wires carried out from the module, you can set the
buttons how you want. All the modules must be assembled us-
ing the 4000 Series ush or surface mounting units.
The Art.4283 can work with any intercom/videophone specif-
ic for VX2200 digital system from 900, 3000 (except Art.316XB
models) or 5000 Series.

LEDS
The rst LED (red), if switched ON, indicates that it is
not possible to make a call because a call or a conver-
sation is in progress (from the outdoor station from
which you are calling or from another outdoor station
on system with multiple entrances).
The second LED (red), if switched ON, indicates that a
call is in progress. The LED will be switched OFF when
the call is answered.
The third LED (yellow), if switched ON, indicates that it is
possible to speak. The LED will be switched OFF at the end
of conversation (or at the end of the conversation time).
The fourth LED (green), if switched ON, means that the
door lock has been operated. It will be switched OFF at
the end of the door opening” time.

PROGRAMMING
The programming is carried out exclusively through the cong-
uration of the 3 jumpers and the 10 way dip-switch bank both
accessible from the back of the module and allow to program:
The unit as a Master or a Slave (switch 1);
The 32 push buttons group (switches 2, 3 & 4);
The conversation time (switch 5);
The door opening time (switch 6);
The device number (switches 7,8,9);
The door open relay operating mode;
The door relay operating mode – dry contacts of capacitor
discharge (J1);
The video signal mode – coax or balanced (J2, J3).

Switches 2,3 and 4 dene the range of Phone IDs generated by
the unit when the call buttons are pressed. For example with
dip-switch 2,3 and 4 set to OFF, the push button connected be-
tween Art.4283 terminals “1” and “A” generates the ID PHONE
1 while the same push button, with dip-switch 2 ON and dip-
switch 3 and 4 OFF, will generate the PHONE ID 33. The last two
ranges of push button groups can be used with the 900 series
intercoms and videointercoms.

The device number is used by the digital concierge to show
from which entrance calls are made.
PROGRAMMING NOTES 3000 AND 900 SERIES MODE
In case of a wrong Master/Slave conguration (Dip-switch no.1),
the following problems can occur:
a. if the unit should be a Master but is congured as a Slave, the
error is signalled by an acoustic intermittent signal until the
problem is resolved;
b. if the unit must be Slave but is congured as Master, the im-
pedance of the system will have a lack of balance, causing
feedback (“Larsen eect).
When a system uses a concierge unit Art.2210-1 the push button
combined to thePhoneID1(onlywiththeswitches2,3&4OFF=ID-
Groupfrom1to 32) is reserved to call the concierge in day or
night mode.

HOW TO CONNECT ELECTRIC LOCK
The door-open relay can operate either as dry contact” or capacitive discharge mode.
In dry contact” operation mode the relay works in a traditional way, a power supply or a power source is needed
to operate the lock (12-24Vac/dc 2A max), and activation lasts according to the door opening time programmed.
In capacitive discharge operation mode the relay’s contacts, when active, supply directly the lock (12Vac/
dc 1A max) for a moment. You don’t need a power supply for the lock and the door opening time pro-
grammed do not aect the activation time.
A possibile deterioration of the mechanical performance of the electric lock, might cause the capacitive dis-
charge malfunctioning in time. In case the electric lock is used in very dusty environments or in peculiar climate conditions, we
suggest to use the open door relay in dry contacts” mode.

OPERATION
Once the Art.4283 has been programmed and connected correctly, it will generateon each pressing of a push button, a code cor-
responding to the PHONE ID (address programmed on the 8 way dip-switch inside each telephone) of the telephone being called.
TO CALL A USER
Press the relevant button to call the user: 5 quick beeps will indicate if the system is busy, otherwise the call will be signalled by a
slow intermittent acoustic signal until the call is answered, the conversation time expires (programmable time) or the call is inter-
rupted by pressing a push button for a minimum of 2 seconds. A short intermittent acoustic signal plus the relevant LED switched
ON indicates that the door is open. If a wrong push button is pressed or if there is no answer, a new call will erase the previous one.
MOUNTING NOTES
We recommend completing the programming of the unit and then connect the extension front panel modules as follows:
connect the push buttons common connection to one of the Art.4283 terminals marked with numbers from “1” to “4”, depend-
ing on the PHONE IDs required when pressing the push buttons (for example with the dip-switches 2 and 3 both OFF, connecting
the push buttons common to terminal “1”, will enable the PHONE IDs from 1 to 8 to combine with the push buttons, while con-
necting the common to terminal “2” will enable the PHONE IDs from 9 to 16 and so on refer Fig. 3).
connect each push button of the module to the Art.4283 terminals marked with the letters from “a” to h” depending on the
PHONE ID needed to be combined with the push button (for example having dip-switches 2 and 3 both OFF and the push but-
tons common of the module connected to terminal “2”, connect the push button to terminal “a” to call PHONE ID 9, or b” to call
PHONE ID 10 and so on refer to Fig. 3).
In order to achieve the correct combination between the push buttons and the relevant extensions, it is advisable to refer to the
picture at the back of the module for the correct cabling.

HOW TO REMOVE/INSERT THE CARD NAME HOLDER
To avoid damage to the module front plate, mask the side that
will be in contact with the screwdriver blade;
Insert the screwdriver (at side) into the card-holder hole as
shown in Fig. 6;
Move the screwdriver to the left as shown in Fig. 7 to extract
the card name holder;
Edit the card name then replace it inside the holder and ret:
insert the holder inside its housing from the left or right side
then push the other side until it clips into place.

vandal resistant range. It incorporates the functional interface

PROGRAMMING
The programming enables the unit to be programmed as a
MASTER or SLAVE (When more units are connected to the same
bus only one must be master while the others must be slave),
the button matrix address group to be programmed (1-24, 25-
48, 49-72 or 73-96), the “CONVERSATION TIME” (1 or 2 minutes),
the “RELAY TIME” (1 or 6 seconds), the UNIT ID (1..8 Each door
should have a unique ID) that is used for selective camera recall
and to show on the concierge (if installed in the system) display
the ID of the door panel that is calling.
The programming is carried out through the 8 dip-switch bank on
the back of the module (please note that any changes to the pro-
gramming requires to power o then power on again the module).

OPERATION
When a call button is pressed, the Art.VR4KAM2W unit will generate the CODED address corresponding to the button (i.e. the button
connected between A and “1” corresponds to ID PHONE 1 or 25 according to the address group programmed “1..23” or “25..47”). The code
must correspond to the PHONE ID (address programmed on the 8 way dip-switch inside each telephone) of the telephone being called.
TO CALL A USER
Press the relevant button to call the user:
5 quick beeps indicates that the system is busy;
A slow intermittent acoustic signal indicates that the call is in progress: the call will stop if answered or if the conversation time
(programmable) expires or if the call is cancelled by another call;
The call being answered is indicated by the yellow LED switching on and a short intermittent acoustic signal plus the green LED
switching on indicates that the door is open.
If a wrong push button is pressed or if there is no answer, a new call (pressing for approx. 2 seconds) will erase the previous one.

DESCRIPTION
Push button modules allow the expansion of the number of call
buttons. Available in versions with 2, 3, 4 or 5 call push buttons.
Each button has its own connection terminals, but the module
can be congured to have a single common terminal for all but-
tons. The common terminals conguration can be selecting on
the 4 jumpers, accessible from the rear of the module.
Depending on the number of push buttons available, the module
can have 2 or 4 illumination LED’s for the card name holder. Look-
ing at the module from the front, push buttons are numbered as
shown in the drawing. Each button has the relevant terminals:
button 1-terminals “1,1C”, button 2-terminals “2,2C” etc.

COMMON TERMINAL SETTING
Settings referred to the module with the maximum number of
push buttons: Art.4845 – 5 push buttons.
The settings shown are for all buttons common together to 1C"
or all buttons individual, but you can choose any combination
of this for each button.
All push button common terminals are linked to
common terminal “1C”.
Each button has its own common terminal.

DESCRIPTION
Push button modules allow the expansion of the number of calls.
Available in 4, 6, 8 and 10 call button versions. Each button has its
own connection terminals, but the module can be congured to
have a single common terminal for each row. The common termi-
nals conguration can be selected on the 8 jumpers, accessible from
the rear of the module. Depending on the number of push buttons
available, the module can have 2 or 4 illumination LED’s for the card
name holder. Looking at the module from the front, push buttons
are numbered as shown in the drawing. Each button has the relevant
terminals: button 1-terminals “1,1C”, button 2-terminals “2,2C” etc.
Attention! push button numeration is the same for the 4 mod-
ule: using the Art.4842D you will have the buttons 1, 2, 6 and 7
with the relevant terminals “1,1C-2,2C-6,6C-7,7C”.

COMMON TERMINAL SETTING
Settings referred to the module with the maximum number of
push buttons: Art.4845D – 10 push buttons.
The settings shown are for all buttons common together (but-
tons 15 to 1C and buttons 710 to 6C or all buttons individu-
al, but you can choose any combination of this for each button.
Commons of push buttons form 2 to 5 are linked
to button 1 common terminal “1C” while com-
mons of push buttons from 7 to 10 are linked to
button 6 common terminal “6C”
Each button has its own common terminal.
HOW TO REMOVE/INSERT THE CARD NAME HOLDER
To avoid damage to the module front plate, mask the side that
will be in contact with the screwdriver blade;
Insert the screwdriver (at side) into the card-holder hole as
shown in Fig. 1;
Move the screwdriver to the left as shown in Fig. 2 to extract
the card name holder;
Edit the card name then replace it inside the holder and ret:
insert the holder inside its housing from the left or right side
then push the other side until it clips into place.

DESCRIPTION
This module is equipped with a CCD colour camera with auto iris lens complete with LED’s for illumination.
The module is available with Wide Camera option (put “/WD” after the product code).
The illumination LED’s are infrared LEDs. The camera has horizontal and vertical adjustment (10
degrees). The unit can be congured to work on systems with coax video signal or on systems with
balanced video signal (non coax). Used on video door entry systems combine with the speaker unit
Art.4837 or Art.4838.
VIDEO SYSTEM SETUP
The video system setup is carried out using the three jumpers
accessible from the backside of the module.
JUMPERS SETTINGS
Coax video system:
terminal M = video signal ground
terminal V = video signal
System with balanced video signal (non coax):
terminal M = V2 = video signal synch.+
V = V1 = video signal synch.–
MAXIMUM ILLUMINATION DISTANCE FROM CAMERA AT NIGHT
The IR LED’s within the camera will illuminate
the visitor when they are within 50cm of the
camera.
