Background:
This Bulletin seeks to articulate the most recent Life Cycle Management (LCM) dates to UNIStim Software for the IP
Deskphones which became effective with the GA release of UNIStim Software release 4.0 for IP Deskphones on
November 30, 2009.
Avaya has an established process for managing the support of products over their complete life cycle; from concept,
through release, and their eventual retirement. Once new software has been released and declared GA, forecast life
cycle state change dates for the previous GA release will be announced.
General Availability (GA) - Products that are classified as GA are ready for sale and support in all intended markets and
applications. Full design support is given to products, releases, and associated documentation with a GA product status.
Note: Software at GA will typically be supported through the delivery of Maintenance Releases, providing resolution to
reported and observed product quality issues. The life cycle stages after GA are 'End of New Sales', 'Manufacture
Discontinued', and eventually 'End of Life'.
End of New Sales (EoNS) - EoNS is a sub-phase of GA for some software products and provides a dual-stream order
window to facilitate the transition of new purchases from the old product to the new. Once an older Release has been
declared EoNS no further supply of this Release is possible and all new purchases will be of the newer Release.
Manufacture Discontinued (MD) - MD status applies to Products, Releases, and associated Design Documentation that
are no longer supported by production related processes. Repair Services, Technical Support, and Emergency Recovery
are provided per published policies and/or the terms of associated Customer contracts. Design Maintenance is limited to
Emergency Recovery, Critical Issues, and/or the terms of associated Customer contracts.
End of Life (EoL) - this status applies to Products that are fully retired. Support is limited to 'Upgrade to Current', which
provides problem resolution via the upgrade from an EoL or MD release to a GA release. Outage recovery services
('Emergency Recovery') are available to contracted Customers to a commercially reasonable extent, and may be limited
in their scope.
Further information regarding the Product LCM policy can be obtained online, at:
www.nortel.com/support/programs/lifecycle.
With regards to UNIStim Software for the IP Deskphones, the following general guidelines apply to the establishment of

Life Cycle Support Updates to the UNIStim Software for IP Deskphones
- EoNS does not apply to UNIStim software.
- MD is set to 3 months after GA of the superseding major software release.
- EoL is normally set for 15 months after GA of the superseding major software release (therefore a further 12 months
after MD).
Actual dates may be slightly adjusted, to start or end of month, for the purposes of clarity.
Analysis:
This Bulletin seeks to articulate the latest LCM dates of the UNIStim Software for IP Deskphones which became effective
with the GA release of UNIStim Software release 4.0 on November 30, 2009. The release of UNIStim Software release
4.0 supersedes release 3.4 as the latest available GA software, thus driving the LCM status changes outlined in the
following table:
Recommendations:
It is recommended that customers carefully review the UNIStim software on their IP Deskphones and make the necessary
plans for upgrading to a current release of software.
Required Actions:
Upgrading the software in a Communication Server 1000 environment:
For information on the TFTP software upgrade process for the Communication Server 1000, please refer to IP Phones
Fundamentals, NN43001-368. For information on the UFTP software upgrade process for the Communication Server
1000, please refer to IP Line Fundamentals, NN43100-500.
Upgrading the software in a Survivable Remote Gateway (SRG) 200/400 and SRG50 environment:
For information on the software upgrade processes for the SRG200/400, please refer to the Main Office Configuration
Guide for SRG200/400 Rls1.5, 553-3001-207. For information on the software upgrade processes for the SRG50, please

Upgrading the software in a Business Communications Manager (BCM) environment:
Upgrading the IP Deskphone's software is dependent upon a BCM system patch that includes the UNIStim software. This
is applicable to all BCM platforms. BCM system patches will be delivered initially as atomic patches that are individually
installable. These patches will be rolled up into a monthly Smart Update which includes all atomic patch content since the
previous Smart Update. Patches and Smart Updates are posted for partner access on the www.nortel.com/support web
site under Voice, Multimedia & Unified Communications then under the respective BCM platform.
Upgrading the software in a Communication Server 2100 CICM environment:
Depending on the MR level, the UNIStim software will either be included in the installation files or will need to be transfer
to the CICM Element Manager. If the UNIStim software is included in the installation files some manual administrator
configuration will still be required. If the UNIStim software is not included in the installation file the administrator can
transfer these software loads to the CICM Element Manager, configure the terminal's Recommended and Minimum
firmware levels and the Element Manager will propagate the software to the CICM. The user will be prompted to upgrade
their IP Deskphone software at their own convenience. For details on using the CICM Element Manager to configure the
recommended software and how to upgrade the IP Deskphones, refer to CICM Administration and Security,
NN10252-611.06.03 in the section titled Downloading firmware to the CICM Element Manager.
