Quick Start Guide

YOUR MUSIC

To load your tracks they need to be in WAV

(16-bit 44.1 kHz stereo) or MP3 (maximum 320-

kbps 44.1 kHz stereo) format, and they need to be

on a PC or Mac.

YOUR HEADPHONES

You need headphones and with a headphone cable

that has a mini stereo 1/8” plug.

YOUR SPEAKERS

You need a mini stereo 1/8” plug to for the line out

plug on the GO-DJ™. Connect this cable to any

powered monitors (speakers that have internal

ampliﬁcation.) Computer speakers are ﬁne. Or

you can plug the GO-DJ™ into an “AUX IN” on a

component set-up.

This guide will get you up and running with basic DJ skills as quickly as possible.

To get the most from this introduction please have the following essential DJ items ready to go.

Important User Interface Information

ABOUT THE TOUCH SCREENS

When you turn on the GO-DJ™, you will see a

Digital Turntable on each screen. You can swipe

le and right at the bottom of each screen (start

swiping from where it says “Monster”) to get to

other screens. If you prefer not to swipe, you can

ABOUT THE FUNCTION KNOBS

There are three ways to manipulate these buttons:

• Turn

• PressandRelease

• PressandTurn

The knobs are actually continuous controllers

that can be turned endlessly. They can also be

clicked like buttons. This does things like enable /

disable effects, select folders, and other functions

depending on the context (i.e. which touch screen

is being displayed). You can also turn them while

holding them down, which also does a variety of

things depending on the context.

just touch the small arrows in the two bottom

corners of each screen. If you see an arrow in only

one of the bottom corners, that’s because you’re

at the le most or right most screen.

STEP 1 Turn it On

STEP 2 Load Your Music

STEP 3 Hook It Up

Hold down the power button (on the right side of

the unit) for about one second. Unit will power on.

CONNECT THE USB CABLE

With the GO-DJ™ powered on, connect it to a USB

port on your computer using the supplied cable.

(The cable is mini USB to standard USB) While

plugged in the GO-DJ battery is charging.

ENTER USB STORAGE MODE

Swipe all the way to the Options screen, which is

the farthest screen to the right, four screens away

from the Digital Turntables. You should see a screen

with ﬁve tabs at the top of it. Click on the SYSTEM

tab on the right. One of the controls on the screen

will be labeled “USB Storage Mode”. Slide that to

the right and a dialog box will appear. Click “OK”.

You will see a message saying “Connected” on

the GO-DJ™. Meanwhile, on your computer, three

removable drives will have appeared along with

your other drives.

SPEAKERS

Connect your speakers to the mini stereo 1/8"

(3.5mm) LINE OUT jack on the back of the GO-DJ.

HEADPHONES

Connect your headphones to the mini stereo 1/8"

PHONES jack on the front.

COPY YOUR MUSIC TO THE GO-DJ

™

Copy your music into the drive named GO-DJ™

DRIVE. You can create a folder structure within the

drive that helps you organize your music. Ignore the

other drives for now.

One of the other drives that appears is used to store recordings

of your mixes. Another contains a copy of the owner’s manual in

PDF form.

DISCONNECT THE GO-DJ™

Safely eject the GO_DJ™ drives from your computer.

Please eject all visible GO-DJ™ drives and when

ﬁnished press the “Cancel” button on either screen

of the GO-DJ™ A dialog box will appear. Press “OK”

in the dialog box. The GO-DJ™ will reboot.

If you don’t have speakers, you can also connect

your headphones to the LINE OUT jack on the back,

but you’ll be missing out.

TROUBLESHOOTING

On the le touch screen (TRACK A), swipe le

to the File Browser screen. Navigate to the folder

named “GO-DJ™ Drive”. You can either double-

tap on the folder on the touch screen, or rotate the

“FUNCTION A” controller and then press it when

the folder is highlighted. In this way, navigate to one

of the audio ﬁles that you loaded into the GO-DJ™.

Double-tap it on the screen or highlight and click it

using the “FUNCTION A” controller. You will then

see a dialog box: click “Load”.

Notice the light blue headphone icon,

beside the battery level indicator in

the top right corner of the le screen.

While keeping an eye on it, press the VOLUME-A

controller.

In this way, you can independently route either

track to one or both ears of your headphones. If

you’re not sure what to do, may we suggest you set

up“splitcueing”:routeTRACKAtoyourleear(by

pressing the VOLUME-Aencoder),andTRACKBto

your right ear.

Press the le Play/Pause button. You should

hearTRACKAinyourspeakers.Youcanlisten

on your headphones as well. To change the

overall headphone volume, press and turn the

VOLUME-B controller.

If you don’t hear anything, here’s what to do:

Turn up the VOLUME A controller. (The ring of LEDs

around it will be completely lit up in blue when

the volume is at maximum.) Also check that the

cross-fader isn’t all the way over to the other side…

the side you are not playing. If you still can’t hear

anything, check the master volume as follows:

The ﬁrst time the GO-DJ™ sees a new track, it

automatically analyzes it to determine the tempo. If

you have just loaded up your GO-DJ™ with a bunch

of tracks, you might encounter a little latency at this

point while the tempo mapping takes place. This

only happens once for each new track you load.

Load a track into the right channel (TRACK B) in

the same way.

For More Info There’s a way to set up the headphone jack so that

it has the same output as the main mix. Please check the manual.

You will notice that the right side of the

headphone icon dims (turns dark gray),

and that you can now hear the track only

in your le ear.

When you press this controller again,

the le side dims, the right side turns

back to light blue, and the track can be

heard only in your right ear.

Press the VOLUME-A controller again and the

track is not routed to your headphones at all.

Finally, press the controller once more and the

track is routed to both ears again

RotatetheFX SELECT controller clockwise until

the last LED around it is lit up in green Then rotate

the FX LEVEL controller (which is now acting as the

master volume) clockwise to increase the Master

Volume level.

Slide the cross-fader all the way over to the le

sothatonlyTRACKAisplayingonyourspeakers.

Then press PlaytostartTRACKB.Youshouldhear

AUTOMATIC BEATMATCHING

If manual beatmatching is more than you want to

do when you’re starting out, set the AUTO SYNC

slider on the TRACK B screen to ON and skip to the

next step.

MANUAL BEATMATCHING

Make sure that the AUTO SYNC slider on the

TRACK B screen is set to OFF. The pitch control is

the vertical slider along the outer vertical edge of

each screen. Slide the TRACK B pitch control up or

downtomatchthetempo(BPM)ofTRACKA.

Play with the Digital Turntable a little. Note that

if you touch it with your ﬁnger, the track stops

completely. You can scratch it too, but this mode

is not precise enough for beatmatching, so let’s

change to Pitch Bend mode.

From the Digital Turntables, swipe once to the right

to access the 3-band EQ. You can use your ﬁnger

to move them up and down. The screen is multi-

touch, so you can even move two or three faders

independentlyatthesametime.TheEQforTRACK

B can also be controlled using the FUNCTION-B

TRACKBinyourrightearbutnotthroughyour

speakers. (You might want to uncover your le ear

so you can hear the main mix out of the speakers.)

WithTRACKBstillplaying,rotatetheFUNCTION-B

controller and watch what happens to the labels

beside the Digital Turntable.

RotatethiscontrollertohighlighttheCUE CLEAR

label at the top. You will notice that the appearance

of the Digital Turntable changes. It should have

“+” (plus) and “-” (minus) signs in the middle. The

Digital Turntable is now in Pitch Bend mode. Touch

and hold the top half of the turntable again.

The track will play more slowly as long as you’re

holding your ﬁnger down. This is how you nudge

the track backward. Touch and hold the bottom

half of the turntable to speed the track up and

nudge it forward.

The area to the side of each Digital Turntable with all of the

labels is known as the “Arc Selector.” The other settings enable a

variety of functions, such as looping and marking cue points. The

behaviour of the Digital Turntable is different depending on the

position of the Arc Selector.

controller. Note the round link button next to each

fader. Press it once to enable it, and again to disable

it. If enabled, the fader moves when you turn the

FUNCTION-B controller. In this way you can move

one, two, or all three faders just by turning one knob.
