6. Propeller Orientation and Installation
Hawk Apex propellers have two directions of rotation: clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise
(CCW). When buying a set of propellers, buy 2 clockwise and 2 counterclockwise.
When installing the propeller, first push the propeller into the motor, then tighten the
appropriate screws to fasten it, and finally check whether the installed propeller is in the same
direction as the propeller in the picture below.
Note:
If the direction of the propeller is not correct, it will directly cause the Hawk Apex to not be able
to fly and control correctly. Please check and check whether the direction is correct. Please
check the tightening of the screws regularly to ensure they remain tight during the flight.

7.2 EMAX Hawk Apex flight controller
Hawk Apex flight controls are pre-programmed and properly tuned for optimal flight.
For a complete file of tuning and configuration settings (CLI dump file),
visit https://emax-usa.com/ for the CLI dump file.
7.3 EMAX ELRS_2.4G_RX receiver binding
The EMAX ELRS_2.4G_RX receiver enters the binding state after 3 power cycles.
First, power on the EMAX ELRS_2.4G_RX receiver 3 times to enter the bind state. Since
EMAX has already connected the receiver to the flight control, it can enter the bind state
by quickly plugging and unplugging the battery 3 times. The red LED of the receiver The
light will flash twice quickly, which means that the receiver has entered the binding mode,
then make sure your RF TX module has also entered the binding mode, and the binding
pulse has been sent, if the red LED of the receiver is steady and steady, this indicates that
the binding is successful.
Note:
The EMAX ELRS_2.4G_RX receiver is connected to the UART2 of the flight controller.
If you purchased the PNP version, there is no such receiver.
8. Flight control settings
8.1 Adjusting software settings (Betaflight Configurator)
The Betaflight Configurator can be used to change programming settings on the Hawk
Apex and flash new firmware as needed.
Betaflight configurator and flight controller firmware can be downloaded at
https://github.com/betaflight/
. The Hawk Apex flight controller firmware is
EMAX/EMAXF7 (STM32F7X2).
EMAX has adapted an optimal parameter for Hawk Apex, which can achieve excellent
flight performance. Changes may affect flight time, speed, control, and motor heating.
Therefore, EMAX strongly recommends not to arbitrarily change the PID and firmware.
8.2 Hawk Apex Flight Controller Reprogramming
1. First press and hold the Boot button, and then connect the computer with the Type-C
data cable to make the flight controller enter the DFU mode.
2. Select STM32F7X2 as the target, then select the firmware and select the manual baud
rate of 256000 in the drop-down menu.
3. Select Load Firmware (Online) to download the firmware.
4. Select Flash firmware to program the flight controller.
8.3 Restore Hawk Apex default settings
Download the latest CLI Dump file from
https://emax-usa.com/,
open the CLI Dump file
in a text editor and copy all the text, paste the settings into the command bar and hit
enter, Hawk Apex when done will reconnect to Betaflight.
9. Fly
Be careful when flying, and operate the flight in an open and controllable area. Before turning
on the power to fly, please learn the flight controls first.
9.1Hawk Apex flight
Turn on the remote control and goggles first. Connect the 4S battery to the Hawk Apex
through the power cable. After the connection is successful, place the Hawk Apex on a
level ground, it will take a few seconds to calibrate, and then you can fly the Hawk Apex.
The Hawk Apex can fly for 4 minutes when the battery is fully charged. When the battery
voltage reaches 14.4V, please stop flying the Hawk Apex. If you fly again, the battery will be
seriously damaged. EMAX does not recommend this.
9.2 Unlock
When the Hawk Apex is plugged into the battery, the propeller will not spin until it is
armed. First move the throttle of the remote control to the bottom position to prepare for
arming, then turn on the unlock switch of the remote control, the Hawk Apex will be
successfully armed, and the propeller will rotate automatically.
In the event of a collision, lock the aircraft immediately, failure to unarm the aircraft in time
may damage the Hawk Apex.
9.3 Visual flight
Select a relatively open environment, turn on the power of the Hawk Apex, unlock it, then
push the accelerator to keep it at a constant altitude, and try to control the Hawk Apex to
keep hovering.
9.4 FPV flight
Make sure the Hawk Apex and the goggles are on the same channel and have a clear
flying area. Works the same as for visual flight maneuvers, except now flies in the forward
direction while maintaining a controlled constant altitude. Learning to fly an FPV is easier
by moving all the way forward.
Important information such as aircraft parameters, flight time and battery voltage can be
seen on the goggles screen, which can also be set and changed in Betaflight.
