Pre-Installation information
Environmental considerations
PleaseinstalltheM300/M700basestationonlyindrylocationswhicharenotpotentiallyexplosive
atmosphere.
Don’tinstallthebasenearairconditions,radiators,indirectsunexposure,verydustyplacesorwhere
itcouldbeexposedtowaterand/orchemicalsplashes.
Thebasestationsareshallonlybeusedindoor.
Environmentaltemperature:‐10°Cto+50°C(14°Fto122°F)
Humidity:max70%(noncondensing)
Itisrecommendedtonotinstallthebasestationdirectlyonmetalsurfacesandtomaintaina
minimumdistanceof20cm(8inches)fromcurrentlinesorwaterpipes;otherwisethereceptionmight
bedegraded.
Wall/ceiling mounting
ThesnomM300/M700canbewallmounted.OntheM700pleaseremovethefootstandprior
mounting.
TheM700canalsobemountedontheceilingwiththeoptionallyavailable“snomA700ceilingmount”
withtheproductnumber00003933.Pleasedonottrytoinstallthebasestationsontheceiling
withoutthismount,asthebasestationmayfalldown.

TheM700doesnothaveapowerconnectionandrequirestheusageofPoweroverEthernet(PoE)
Class2.IfyournetworkisnotequippedwithaPoEinfrastructure,youcanusethe“snomA5PoE
injector”withtheproductnumber00004065.
TheM300basestationcomeswithapowersupply,pleaseonlyusethesuppliedpowersupplywith
theM300.TheM300doesnotsupportPoE.

Bothbasestationshavea10/100Mbitautosensingnetworkport.
General software considerations and requirements
ThesnomMSeriesbasestationsfollowmostsnomspecificsnomconfigurationandmanagement
schemes.ItisrecommendedtohavealocalHTTP/HTTPSserverforfirmwareupdatesandcentral
configurationmanagement.
TheHTTPServerwillhostfirmwarefilesforbasestations,handsetsandrepeaters.Thehandsetsand
repeaterscanbeupdatedovertheairbythebasestation.
First setup
ThefirstsetupwillguidethroughtheprocessofidentifyingthebasestationsIPaddress,tologinand
tosetupthefirsthandsetandSIPregistration.
ThisguidewillNOTdescribehowtosetupM700inamulticellconfiguration.

Identifying base IP-address and first login
Onceyouconnectedthebasestationtopowerandnetworkasdescribedbefore,takeasnom
M65/M25handsetandpressthe“Menu”keyandenter“*47*”.ThiswillshowthebasestationsIP
addressesinrange:
PleaseentertheIPaddressofthebasetoconfigureintoyourwebbrowser.

Setting up accounts and handsets
Threestepsarerequiredtomakethefirstphonecall:

PleasestarttosetupaSIPserver,byclickingonServers.

encryption,etc.
2.Createanuseraccount
NowclickonExtensionstocreateuseraccounts(considercreatingallrequireduseraccountsatthis
stage,theywillbeassociatedwiththehandsetsinthenextstep):

Backattheextensionpage,youwillnotice,thatthenewlycreatedaccountisassociatedwitha
handsetwhichhastheIPEIFFFFFFFFFF,thismeansthatnohandsethasbeenassociatedwiththisSIP
extension.
Selectthe“unregistered”extensionbysettingthecheckmarkandclickon“RegisterHandset(s)”.Now
takeyourhandset,pressMenuandselect“Connectivity”:

ThefilenamingisPRODUCTNAME_VERSION.fwu,pleasedoNOTrenamethefilesasthebasestation
willlookforfilenamesinexactlythisscheme.Forexample:M700_v0320.fwuwouldbetheupdatefile
forM700withtheversion320.
FolderStructure:
ItisrecommendedtohaveasubfolderforthesnomMobileproducts,inthesefolderfoldersforeach
productisrequired.
Note:Linux/UnixbasedHTTPserversarecasesensitive,sopleaseensurethatthefoldersare
createdwithcapitalletters.M700=OK,m700willnotwork.

Wirelessdevicefirmwareupgrade:
Toperformanupdatetoconnectedwirelessdevices(handsets/repeaters),youmustprovide
correspondingupdatefilestothebasestationandthedesiredfirmwareversionneedstobedefined.
Thischapterassumesyouhavedeployedthefirmwarefilesaccordingtothepreviouschapter.
Snomrecommendsperformingwirelessupdateswhenthewholesystemisinidle.Incasetheupdate
isperformsonanactivelivesystem,snomcannotguaranteeuninterruptedfunctionalityWhileitis
possibletoupdatethesysteminproduction,snomrecommendsnottodothis.
ManualUpdate(viaWebserver):
Tomanuallytriggertheupdate,pleasegotothewebinterfaceofthebasestation,andthengotothe
menu“FirmwareUpdate”.
Nowenternexttothedesireddevicethedesiredfirmwareversion,whichhastocorrespondwiththe
firmwarefilename.

Onceyoupress“Save/StartUpdate”,thebasestationwillstartthetransfertotheendpoints.

Thewirelessupdatesprocess:
Whenawirelessdevice(handsetorrepeater)firmwareupdatehasbeenprovided,thereisathree
stepprocessfortheupdate:
1. Transferfirmwaretothedevice(overtheair‐viaDECT).
2. Verificationthatthefirmwarehasbeensubmittedsuccessfully.
3. Dependingifitisahandsetorarepeater:

a. Handsetsperformthefirmwareupdateassoonastheyareputinthecharger.The
actualupdatetakes~1Min.
b. Repeaterswillexecutetheupdatesassoonastherearenoactivecalls.
Thedeviceremainsoperationalduringfirmwaretransfer,theDECTinstallationhowevermightnot
operateatfullcapacity.
TheprogressofthehandsetfirmwareupgradecanbemonitoredunderExtensions.
Note:ThehandsetupdateprocessisvisualizedbytheLEDonthebasestationblinkingred.
Aftertheupdatethesuccessfultransferisverified.
Whentheupdatehasbeensuccessfullyverified,thehandsetwaitstobeputinthechargertoperform
theactualupdate.
Oncethehandsethasbeenputinthecharger,itwillturnoff;theLEDwillflashgreenrapidlyandthen
flashredrapidly.Whentheupdatewassuccessfulitwillturnonagain.
Thecurrentfirmwareandthestatusoftheupdatewillbeshown:
Considerations:
Theupdatetransfertoadevicetakesonaverage~1015min.Dependingontrafficconditions
(Voicetrafficiswithpriority);undercertainconditionsitmighttakeupto60min.
Usingthedevicewillpausethetransferprocess.Itwillcontinueoncethehandsetisbackin
idlemode.
Oncethefirmwarehasbeentransferred,theactualupdatetakes~1min.

TheM700canupdateupto10devices,theM300upto5devicesatthesametime.Ifmore
devicesareregisteredwiththebase,theywillbeupdatedonceanotherhandsetsuccessfully
receivedthefirmwareupdate.
Arepeaterwillstarttheupdateautomaticallyoncetherearenocalls.Thisleadstoashort
serviceinterruption(~1min),whiletherepeaterisupdatingthefirmware.
Thebasestationrandomlyselectsthedevicesforfirmwaretransfer.Itisnotpossibleto
priorizecertaindevices.
Multicellconsiderations:
AM700willupdateallhandsetsinrange;alsodevices“homed”onadifferentcell.
Iftheusermovesfromonecelltoanother,theupdatewillcontinue(aslongassufficient
updatecapacityisavailable).
Incaseacellisfullybusywithfirmwaretransfer,handover/roamingwillfail(anactivecall
mightbelost).
Ifawirelessdeviceupdateistriggeredononebasestationallbasestationswillperforman
update.
