No persons in the work area!

Movement commands can be sent with the SMI Configurator. When the SMI

Configurator is used, ensure that no one remains in the area of the moving parts

(e.g., sunblinds).

Do not send movement commands in PLC mode when controller lock is

active!

The movement commands executed via the SMI Configurator have higher

priority than any controller lock set in the PLC software. Therefore, it is possible

to move the SMI drives even when the controller lock is active. This only applies

if the SMI Configurator is connected to an SMI master module via PLC mode.

Any time you send movement commands with the SMI Configurator via PLC

mode, first check whether the controller lock is active. Do not send movement

commands with the SMI Configurator as long as the controller lock is active.

Personal injury or property damage possible if power is interrupted when

assigning addresses

If the power supply is interrupted while the SMI master is assigning addresses,

the SMI drive addresses may be transposed.

The behavior of the SMI drives during travel commands is then unpredictable.

This can lead to personal injury and property damage.

In this case, the system must be checked completely and switched off until

recommissioned.

If no SMI drive is selected, movement commands are sent to all SMI drives!

Note that the desired SMI drives must be selected in order to execute the

movement commands! If no SMI drive is selected, a global broadcast is sent to

all accessible SMI drives and executed. The movement command is also sent to

the SMI drives that are connected to the selected SMI master but not listed in the

SMI drive overview on the left side.

Use up-to-date security software!

Secure operation of the PC system can be at risk as a result of malware such a

viruses and Trojans, as well as related threats such as denial-of-service attacks.

Therefore, make sure that the latest security software and definitions are always

installed on the PC system.

Disable or uninstall software that is no longer required!

The vulnerability of a PC system against malware and related threats increases

with the number of installed or active software components (applications and

services). Therefore, uninstall or disable software components that are not

needed for the purpose at hand.

Depending on the antivirus software installed, is may not be possible to establish

the connection between the SMI configurator and SMI master module without

errors when starting via PLC mode. It is possible that not all drives will be

detected or the settings cannot be read or written.

In this case, establish the connection to the SMI master module using the SMI

visualization in your PLC application, which you can also use to configure the

SMI master module.

As an alternative to the SMI visualization of the PLC application, you can use

WAGO-I/O-CHECK in control mode:

1. Switch the mode selector switch of the controller to “Stop.”

2. Connect the WAGO SMI Configurator to the controller again.

The connection has been established between the SMI Configurator and

controller and can be used without restriction.

3. Make any required settings.

4. Close the SMI Configurator.

5. Switch off the power to your power supply.

6. Switch on the power to your power supply.

7. Set the mode selector switch of the controller to “Run.”

Regular operation of the PLC application is reestablished.

3.1.4 Fieldbus Controller

For communication with the SMI Configurator, the PLC program must run through

the SMI function blocks within a maximum PLC cycle time.

The maximum PLC cycle time is dependent on the “Internal timeout” setting (see

sections “Functions” > “Internal Timeout” and “Graphical User Interface” >

“‘Connections’ Menu Area” > “Settings” > “Internal Timeout”):

- If the setting is 2 s, the PLC cycle time can be 60 ms at most.

- If the setting is 3 s (factory setting), the PLC cycle time can be 90 ms at most.

- If the setting is 4 s, the PLC cycle time can be 120 ms at most.

- If the setting is 5 s, the PLC cycle time can be 140 ms at most.

Updates have no effect on the setting!

The “Internal timeout” setting retains its value through updates.

The WAGO SMI Configurator is parameterization software for SMI master

modules. You can use the software to commission SMI drives that are connected

to SMI master modules.

The WAGO SMI Configurator offers functions for commissioning and configuring

SMI drives. Besides the online mode, in which you can control the SMI drives

directly, you have the option of using the SMI Configurator in offline mode. This

includes offline configuration of all SMI drives connected to available SMI master

modules within a node, as well as saving and restoring SMI drive configurations

from existing CSV addressing files. You can directly transfer all module settings

of an SMI master module to any number of additional SMI master modules with

the “Transfer settings” function. Furthermore, you have the option of using the

SMI Configurator to generate project documentation and display the log data of a

selected SMI master module.

A scan function makes it possible to identify the SMI drives connected to an SMI

master module and display the settings in the WAGO SMI Configurator. If SMI

addresses are missing or there is an address conflict, you can use automatic

addressing to assign a new SMI address to all drives automatically, or

alternatively use system extension to resolve the address conflict and delete any

missing SMI drives.

With the internal timeout value, you can specify the maximum amount of time the

SMI Configurator waits for the response from an SMI master module. This

specification determines how long the SMI Configurator is to wait for the

response from the SMI master module after sending a telegram. It is possible

that the time you specified will elapse without a response from the SMI master

module will. One possible reason for a lack of response within the specified

waiting time is that the speed of the connection between the SMI master module

and SMI Configurator is too low, e.g. if the data is transferred via the R232

interface of the controller with a WAGO Bluetooth

Adapter. The SMI

Configurator remains in online mode even in the event of timeout.

Note pre-defined timeout for automatic addressing and system extension!

When automatic addressing or system extension is performed, the individually

specified internal timeout is ignored. The pre-defined default timeout setting is

300 s for automatic addressing and 120 s for system extension.

You can generate a “WAGO SMI Configurator Report” with the SMI Configurator,

either for one SMI master module or for all SMI master modules of a node. A

“WAGO SMI Configurator Report” is always generated from the SMI Configurator

in PDF format. Depending on the configuration of your node, the report can

contain information on the SMI master modules identified and their module

settings, as well as connected SMI drives and their configurations. Besides the

technical information, you can also incorporate project-specific information into

the report such as the product manager, company information, contact data and

much more.

4.4.1 Addressing File

An addressing file contains all addresses of the SMI drives connected to an SMI

master module and a representation of all SMI master modules. The addressing

file is stored in the CSV file format All content of this file is structured in a tabular

form. The upper part of the table primarily contains a list of all possible drive

manufacturers from the manufacturer file, but also information such as the IP

address and project name. The second part of the table represents all connected

SMI master modules, each in a block of 16 rows. The number of rows

corresponds to the maximum number of SMI drives to be connected per SMI

master module. In contrast, the columns contain information about properties of

the SMI drives, including the address, ID (drive), manufacturer ID, comments,

and Position 1 and Position 2.

You can save the drive information in a CSV addressing file with the SMI

Configurator or import it from an existing CSV addressing file.

4.4.2 Manufacturer Parameter File

The manufacturer parameter file contains all manufacturer-specific drive

parameters. These include the parameter address, parameter name and

minimum and maximum parameter values, among other things.

manufacturer.

If you would like to connect the WAGO SMI Configurator to a controller with a

running IEC application, an alert appears that this is only possible if you establish

the connection via PLC mode. When connecting, the SMI Configurator

determines whether a PLC is running on the controller, and a corresponding

dialog appears. In this dialog you can decide whether you would like to connect

the SMI Configurator to the SMI master module via PLC mode. Otherwise, a

connection is only possible if the running IEC application on the controller is

terminated.

Do not send movement commands in PLC mode when controller lock is

active!

The movement commands executed via the SMI Configurator have higher

priority than any controller lock set in the PLC software. Therefore, it is possible

to move the SMI drives even when the controller lock is active. This only applies

if the SMI Configurator is connected to an SMI master module via PLC mode.

Any time you send movement commands with the SMI Configurator via PLC

mode, first check whether the controller lock is active. Do not send movement

commands with the SMI Configurator as long as the controller lock is active.
