This section describes the conventions and acronyms used in this guide.
Various conventions are used to help you quickly identify special formatting.
Table 1 describes these conventions and provides examples of their use.
Various acronyms are used in place of the full definition. Table 2 presents
acronyms and their definitions.

CHAPTER 1
Device Overview
This chapter provides a brief description of the e315/e315M, the smallest
micro-merchant and convenience retailing mobile payment solution in the
industry. This payment solution seamlessly blends the industry standard, secure
VX operating system and Trident hardware architecture with the Apple iOS
allowing for an endless variety of vertical applications and secure payment
combinations to meet today’s dynamic and innovative retailing needs.
Some of the e315/e315M’s key features include: a familiar color/touch display
interface from an iPod 5 or an iPhone 5, fast processor, large memory, the latest
PCI 3.0 security, integrated 2D barcode scanner, capacitive-touch encrypted PIN
pad (e315), mechanical keypad (e315M), integrated contactless and NFC-ready,
in a small most versatile form factor.
The e315/e315M is a portable, battery-powered device designed to fit your hands
comfortably and is ideal for consumer-facing and merchant-facing retail integrated
applications. It also features a crisp 128 x 32 display.

including a triple-track magnetic-stripe card reader, smart card reader, integrated
PIN pad, capacitive touch keypad (e315), mechanical keypad (e315M),
monochrome display, 2D barcode reader, and contactless/NFC support.

The lightweight, compact, stylish, and ergonomic balance allows convenient
device hand-off to the consumer for PIN entry or other input.
Integration with the Apple iOS enables rapid backend development and
complex system integration in a short period of time.

e315M provide a continuity of user experience between the e315/e315M and
the iPod or iPhone.
Horizontal magnetic stripe card reader with an enlarged card entrance delivers

The e315/e315M size is easily able to be dropped in most pockets. An

Usage

Use the following guidelines when using your e315/e315M.
Environmental
Factors
Select a flat support surface, such as a countertop or table, to keep the device
safe in between uses.
Do not use the device where there is high heat, dust, humidity, moisture, or
caustic chemicals or oils.
Keep the device away from direct sunlight and anything that radiates heat,
such as a stove or motor.
Do not use the device outdoors.
Personal Security
Considerations
The e315/e315M is a handover device. Always exercise extreme caution when
conducting transactions especially during PIN entry.
Hand the e315/e315M directly to the cardholder for PIN entry.
Encourage the cardholder to hold the e315/e315M close to avoid others from
seeing the information entered.
Electrical
Considerations
Avoid using this product during electrical storms.
Avoid locations near electrical appliances or other devices that cause
excessive voltage fluctuations or emit electrical noise (for example, air
conditioners, electric motors, neon signs, high-frequency or magnetic security
devices, or computer equipment).
Do not use the device near water or in moist conditions.
CAUTION
The device is not waterproof or dustproof, and is intended for indoor use only.
Any damage to the unit from exposure to rain or dust may void any warranty.

Unpacking the
Shipping Carton
Open the shipping carton and carefully inspect its contents for possible tampering
or shipping damage. The e315/e315M is a secure product and any tampering may
cause the device to cease to function properly.
To unpack the
shipping carton
1 Remove and inspect the following items:
e315/e315M unit
USB to Micro-USB cable
2 Remove all plastic wrapping from the unit and other components.
3 Remove the clear protective film from the unit.
4 Save the shipping carton and packing material for future repacking or moving
the device.
CAUTION
Do not use a unit that has been damaged or tampered with. The e315/e315M
comes equipped with tamper-evident labels. If a label or component appears
damaged or if the device appears to have been opened, please notify the
shipping company and your Verifone representative or service provider
immediately.
NOTE
Charge the e315/e315M device for eight hours before initial use. Do not insert
the iPod or iPhone during initial charging.

Before you continue the installation process, familiarize yourself with the features
of the e315/e315M. (See
Figure 2 and Figure 3)
Front View
The front panel includes the following features:

An MSAM (Micromodule-Size Security Access Module) compartment to
support stored-value card programs or other merchant card requirements.
A Micro-USB port for data connection and power charging. You can also use
this connect the e315/e315M to a computer using a standard USB to Micro-
USB cable (VPN CBL000-021-01-A).
Lightning connector to connect to an iPod or iPhone.
Action buttons located on both sides of the e315/e315M to activate the 2D
imager for scanning barcodes.

Verifone ships variants of the e315/e315M for different markets. Your device may
have a different configuration. The following devices may or may not be present: a
CTLS reader, smart card reader, or a barcode scanner. However, the basic
processes described in this guide remain the same, regardless of device
configuration.

Installing/
Replacing an
MSAM Card
When you first receive your e315/e315M, you may need to install an MSAM card
or you may need to replace an old card.
CAUTION
Observe standard precautions when handling electrostatically sensitive devices.
Electrostatic discharges can damage this equipment. Verifone recommends using
a grounded anti-static wrist strap.
NOTE
Not all applications require the use of an MSAM card.

To install/replace
MSAM
1 Unplug any cables or chargers from the e315/e315M.
2 Remove the screw from the top cover to display the MSAM compartment.
3 Unlock the MSAM compartment by pulling the locking tab downwards.
4 Hook your finger under locking tab and lift up to swivel the MSAM tray open.
5 Place the MSAM card on top of the tray with the gold contacts facing down
and then gently push down the tray to close.
6 Push the locking tab upwards to lock the tray and secure the MSAM card.
7 Place the cover back and tighten the screw.

You need an iPod 5 or iPhone 5 to perform any payment transaction, synchronize
data, and download applications.
To install an iPod or
iPhone into the e315/
e315M
To be able to fit the iPhone or iPod, you need to remove the top part of the e315/
e315M casing.
1 Remove the screw located on top of the e315/e315M just beside the 2D
barcode scanner.
NOTE
Make sure that the MSAM card sits firmly on the tray to be able to close the MSAM
compartment.

2 Hook your finger under the notch and lift up to remove the casing. You can
also use a flat head screwdriver or a similar tool.
You can now proceed to install the iPod or iPhone.
Installing an iPhone 5 into the e315/e315M
3 Hold and secure the e315/e315M with the PIN pad facing down.
4 Align the port at the bottom of the iPhone with the Lightning connector on the
e315/e315M then, gently but firmly push the e315/e315M down until it sits
firmly.
If you are using an iPod, use the spacer to fill the gap between the
e315/e315m and the iPod and to ensure a tight fit.

5 Return the top casing and tighten the screw to secure the device.

To remove an iPod or
iPhone from the e315/

1 Remove the screw located on top of the e315/e315M just beside the 2D
imager.
2 Hook your finger under the notch and lift up to remove the casing. You can
also use a flat head screwdriver or a similar tool.
3 Hold and secure the e315/e315M with the PIN pad facing down.
4 Lift the iPhone or iPod upwards to disengage it from the e315/e315M.
5 Return the top part of the casing and tighten the screw.

the e315/e315M
Press the Home button on the iPhone or iPod to automatically turn on the e315.
Similarly, the e315/e315M automatically turns off when the iPod or iPhone is
inactive.
Connecting the
e315/e315M to a
Power Source or
a Host Computer
Plug the wall-mount charger to an external power source and connect it to the
e315/e315M to charge the device. You can also connect the e315/e315M to a
computer to synchronize data and/or charge the device.
To Connect the e315/
e315M to a Wall-
mount Charger
1 Plug the Verifone-certified wall-mount charger into a wall outlet or powered
surge protector.
2 Insert the Micro-USB cable into the port located on the side of the e315/
e315M.

NOTE
To reset or manually turn the e315/e315M on, place a paper clip or a similar
tool in the hole located at the bottom of the e315/e315M to press the reset
button. The reset button resets the device to its initialize state.
Press the Cancel key for at least three seconds to manually shut down the
e315/e315M.
NOTE
Charge the e315/e315M device for eight hours before initial use. Do not
insert an iPod or iPhone during initial charging.
The e315/e315M device must be fully charged before USB power can be
used to charge the iPod or iPhone.
