4 Alarm control panel NORMA4 and NORMA8

INTRODUCTION

The NormaQuattro and NormaOtto control panels

The NormaQuattro and NormaOtto control panels are available in 4 versions:

NormaQuattro/N 4 zone control panel with mechanical key incorporated.

NormaOtto/N 8 zone control panel with mechanical key incorporated.

NormaQuattro/K 4 zone control panel with electronic key incorporated.

NormaOtto/K 8 zone control panel with electronic key incorporated.

This handbook refers to and combines all 4 versions as the operating

methods are identical for all the models, the only thing that changes is the

number of zones present (four or eight) and the presence of the mechani-

cal or electronic key on the front panel.

Electronic key Key readers for electronic keys can be mounted on all the control panel

models, positioned externally, usually on the electrical installations box.

The operating instructions of these key readers are the same as those of

the key reader found on the panel of the K versions.

Control Keypad At the control panel it is also possible to connect a remote Control Keypad

by which you can control all the functions of the system. In particular, it is

possible to arm and disarm the system by means of entering a secret

user’s code of four or five figures, in this way the utilization of the keys is

not necessary.

Your installer will be able to show you the special characteristics of the

particular plant, whilst in this handbook you will find the instructions for all

the operations that can be carried out on the system.

Figure 1 illustrates the control panel (NormaOtto/N) and the optional ac-

cessories: the Control Keypad, the key reader and the digital key.

The following instructions refer to 8 zone models. If the model installed is a

4 zone one, bear in mind that the 5 to 8 zones don’t exist.

Glossary of the technical terms

 ARMING - Arming the antitheft system means activating the alarms at the

moment in which the protected zones are violated.

 DISARMING - Disarming means allowing the protected zones to be en-

tered without setting off the alarms.

 SERVICE MODE - This is a particular condition of the control panel in

which the alarms are disarmed and the buttons on the front panel are op-

erational.

 ALARM - A danger signal which requires an immediate and adequate in-

tervention on the part of the personnel.

 ELECTRONIC KEY - A key with a numerical code (4 billion combinations)

enabling the controlling of the antitheft system.

 KEY READER - A device for reading the electronic key.

 CONTROL KEYPAD - A Keypad through which it is possible to operate all

the functions of the control panel.

 ALARM ZONE - One or more sensors that protect determined zones of the

residence can be connected to an alarm zone.

 EXIT TIME - The time that you have at your disposal after having armed

the system for withdrawing from the protected area without setting off the

alarm.

 ENTRY TIME - The time that you have at your disposal for disarming the

system after having entered the protected area violating a delayed zone.

 DELAYED ZONE - A zone through which you can leave or enter a pro-

tected area without setting off the alarm if you respect the established exit

and entry times.

 ZONE EXCLUSION - Excluding an alarm zone means arranging that the

control panel ignores that zone, therefore violating it will not set off the

alarm.

 PARTITIONING - Partitioning the system means excluding a group of

zones. In this way the system is armed but a part remains inactive so that

you can stay in a restricted zone inside the protected building.

 PARTITIONING GROUPS - A group of zones where partitioning is carried

out.

 ANTI-SABOTAGE ZONE - A particular zone, called 24h, which is always

active. Whether the system is armed or disarmed it will set off an alarm af-

ter a violation of the security system components.

 ALARM MEMORY - A circuit for the memorization of the zones that have

had an alarm. The memory is activated up to the automatic or manual re-

setting of the alarm zone.

 EXTENSIVE VISUALIZATION - A particular phase in which the lights on

the front panel assume a different meaning to the standard one for display-

ing particular indications.

 USER’S CODES - Numerical codes of 4 or 5 figures for arming/disarming

the system and gaining access to the other functions.

 INSTALLER’S CODE - A code of 4 or 5 figures which allows the installer

to gain access to the programming procedure of the control panel parame-

ters.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The control panel

Lights On the front panel there are a certain number of lights that indicate the

condition of the alarm zones and the general condition of the system. In

particular there are 2 lights for each alarm zone marked L1 .. L8 and E1 ..

E8, which respectively indicate the condition of the entry zone and the con-

dition of the exclusion.

 L1 .. L8: these are off when the corresponding zone is under normal condi-

tions; they are on when the zone is violated; they flash when an alarm has

been memorized; they flash quickly when, as well as having an alarm

memorized, the zone remains in alarm.

 E1 .. E8: these are off when the corresponding zone is not excluded; they

are on when the zone is excluded; they flash when the zone is being

tested.

In the extensive visualization position, the lights listed below assume a dif-

ferent meaning to the usual one:

 L1 .. L8: Indicate the alarm memories prior to the last resetting operation.

 E1 (Fuse): indicates the burning out of the fuse placed to protect the

power supply of the entry zone.

 E2 (Main): indicates the lack of voltage: the control panel will be supplied

by the internal battery. If this condition continues for long it will result in the

running down of the same battery.

 E3 (Battery): if the light is on it indicates that the battery is run down or

that there is a fault in the battery charging circuit, if flashing it refers to the

battery of the siren.

 E4 (Bus): indicates a faulty functioning of the communications with the ex-

ternal command devices (Keypad and additional key readers).

On the right side there are 6 LEDS indicating the operating conditions of

the system:

 Armed: indicates the arming/disarming condition of the system. Lit up

means that the system is armed.

 Alarm: lights up when there is a state of alarm, flashes when an alarm has

been memorized.

 Warning: if lit up it indicates that there is a fault in the system. You must

check what type of fault you’re dealing with by means of the extensive

visualization and subsequently consult the technical assistance.

During the extensive visualization phase this light will flash.

 Ready: ready for arming. This means that it is possible to arm the system

without setting of the alarm being that all the zones are in a state of rest.

 24h: when lit up indicates the opening of the anti-sabotage zone;

when flashing it indicates the memorization of the alarm on the anti-sabo-

tage zone.

 Service: indicates the service mode of the control panel; if flashing it indi-

cates the programming condition from the Keypad.

Furthermore, in the electronic key versions there are 3 lights connected to

the key reader. For an explanation of these lights see the following para-

graph "The digital key".

Buttons On the panel there is a button utilized for excluding the corresponding

alarm zone and a button for the resetting (Reset) of the alarm memories.

All the buttons normally are not functionable and the control panel must be

put in the service mode in order to operate them.

Buzzer The control panel is equipped with a buzzer which supplies responses to

the pressed buttons according to the following rules:

 shrill sound: Indicates the pressure of a button;

 deep sound: Indicates a state of error;

 long, shrill sound: Indicates that a command has been accepted.

Moreover, the buzzer indicates, with various sounds, the elapsing of the

exit time, the pre-alarm condition and the alarm condition.

The electronic key

By means of the electronic key, operated by NormaQuattro and Nor-

maOtto, it is possible to carry out in a quick and simple manner the main

operations on the system.

There are two different levels of keys: the "master" key (main key) with

which you can carry out all the possible operations; the secondary key

which is enabled only for the exclusion of the partitioning groups.

Lights On the key reader (externally situated or placed on the panel in the K ver-

sions) there are three LEDs which indicate the condition of the system.

 RED LED: indicates the condition of the system: on if the system is armed,

off if disconnected.

 YELLOW LED: condition of the partitioning group A: on if the group is ex-

cluded.

 GREEN LED: condition of the partitioning group B: on if the group is ex-

cluded.

The indication on the key readers can be attained always or only when a

valid key is inserted depending upon how it has been established in the

programming phase.

If, on inserting a key, the three leds of the key reader flash, it means that

the key isn’t valid.

8 Alarm control panel NORMA4 and NORMA8

The Control Keypad

The Control Keypad allows the carrying out of all the operations on the

control panel in the normal operative mode, moreover, it allows you to pro-

gramme all the control panel functions during the installation phase.

Lights On the Keypad there are:

 2 leds for each zone marked L1 .. L8 and E1 .. E8 which indicate respec-

tively the condition of the entry zone and the condition of the exclusion;

 8 leds situated to the right which indicate the operative conditions of the

system.

The major part of the Keypad indications are a replica of those on the con-

trol panel board, see paragraph "The control panel" for their description.

The three indications that are present on the Keypad but not on the front

panel are the following.

 OPEN: indicates the opening of the control panel.

 EXC: lights up when access to the individual exclusion phase of the zones

is given by the Control Keypad.

 PRG: lights up when you find yourself in the programming condition of the

control panel. Flashes if the control panel is in the service mode.

Buzzer The Keypad is also equipped with a buzzer that indicates the exit, pre-

alarm and alarm conditions and supplies the responses to the keys

pressed as with on the control panel.

User’s codes The users have at their disposal 5 different codes, each of which is en-

abled for specific functions. In this way each of the system’s users, by

means of his personal code, is able to carry out only the operations re-

served for him.

All the codes may be composed of four or five figures and the operations

on the system take place by typing in the figures of the code followed by

the function Keypad key relating to the operation to be carried out (the

function Keypad keys are: , , , , and ). If a mis-

take should be made in carrying out the operation on the Keypad, this will

be acoustically indicated, after which you can resume the operation from

the beginning.

 With the USER MAIN code it is possible to carry out all the operations, it

being understood that entry during the programming phase is allowed only

to alter the programming of the user’s five codes. This code will be at the

disposal of the main user who will be able to control all the functions.

 The USER code is enabled only to arm and disarm the system. Partitioning

is impossible as is the resetting of the memories. This code can be com-

municated to all the users who wish to be enabled only for arming/disarm-

ing of the system but not for the other functions.

 The PANIC code is utilized for the disarming under constriction: when you

disarm the system using this code you activate the telephonic warning de-

vice (if it is connected).

 The two codes of GROUP A and GROUP B permit the system, whether it

is disarmed or armed, to exclude the relative partitioning groups.

It is possible by utilizing these codes and suitably programming the control

panel (option PATROL ON activated) to control the temporary exclusion of

a group of zones for patrol rounds. The re-inclusion will take place, in this

case, automatically after the predetermined "patrol time".

The standard factory programming of the user’s codes is the following:

Superkeys Some operations are not activated by user codes but simply by the pres-

sure for about 3 seconds on a single key. When we talk, for example,

about Super Key 1, we mean the pressure for 2 seconds on key 1.

OPERATIONS

Description

The major part of the basic operations can be carried out by the front panel

of the control panel, by means of the key reader for the digital key and also

by the Control Keypad. In the following paragraphs you will find detailed

descriptions of all the basic operations, how they are carried out by means

of the front panel, the Keypad and, if permitted, by the key reader. If, in a

system, there is more than one Keypad, whilst you utilize one Keypad the

others remain disconnected. The basic operations are described in the fol-

lowing table:

All the operations realizable from the panel with the electronic key which

don’t anticipate the use of the buttons are realizable by means of possible

remote control key readers utilizing the same instructions.

In the following descriptions for the operations from the Keypad you must

utilize the factory codes. Whenever, in the following examples, it is possi-

ble to utilize more than one code then the highest priority code is used.

During the installation phase of the system it is essentially important to

substitute the factory codes with the user’s own codes (see "Programming

of user’s codes") otherwise the system will function with the factory codes

which won’t guarantee an adequate degree of security.

OPERATIONS 11

Total arming of the system

This operation means you can fully arm the system without excluding the

partitioning groups.

The total arming operation automatically reincludes possible excluded

groups, whilst if a zone has been individually excluded it will not be rein-

cluded. The operation will be indicated by the command acceptance beep

and by the lighting up of the ARMED LED on the panel and on the possible

Keypads and by the red led on the key readers.

After the arming, the buzzer will start to indicate the exit time.

Operating from the panel OR

Mechanical key To fully arm the panel, insert the mechanical key, turn it to the right and

quickly release it.

Before carrying out the arming of the system, make sure that the green led

READY is lit up, this means that at that moment there are no open zones

and the system may be armed without setting off an alarm.

Electronic key To fully arm the system insert a master key into the key reader, press the

button and make sure that the red led lights up. At this point, the moment

in which the key is extracted is when the actual arming of the system will

take place.

Before carrying out the arming of the system make sure that the red led of

the key reader is not flashing. In fact a flashing red led indicates that, at

that moment, there is at least one zone open, arming the system therefore

will produce a state of alarm.

Check that the leds corresponding to the partitioning zones are off, other-

wise utilize the button to turn them off.

Operating from the remote control key reader

The procedure is the same as that of the "Electronic key" in the previous

paragraph.

Operating from the Keypad + OR

To fully arm the system you must enter one of the three user codes USER

MAIN, USER or PANIC followed by the ENTER function key.

Before carrying out the arming operation you must check that the green led

READY is lit up, which means that at that particular moment there are no

open zones and the system may be armed without setting off an alarm.

Partial arming of the system

This operation allows the arming of the alarm system and at the same time

excludes the zones belonging to a determined partitioning group. It is use-

ful, for example, if you want to arm the system allowing however entry into

a circumscribed zone of the protected area. (eg. the sleeping area of the

house).

Operating from the panel

Electronic key Once a master key has been inserted in the key reader, press the button to

light up the red led.

To carry out the partitioning you must keep the key button pressed: a cyclic

scanning phase of the various configurations of exclusion groups will begin in-

dicated by the lighting up of the group leds (yellow = group A, green = group

B), when the configuration desired appears, release the button and extract the

key.

The lit up led means that the group is excluded.

Operating from a remote control key reader

The procedure is the same as for the "Electronic key" in the previous para-

graph.

Operating from the Keypad +

The partial arming of the system is obtained entering the USER MAIN

code followed by pressing the A or B function button depending on which

group of zones you want to exclude.

In this case you will obtain the arming and the exclusion of the chosen

group. On the front panel you will see the indication of the armed system

(ARMED led lit up) and the indication of the zones which are excluded by

means of the exclusion leds.

OPERATIONS 13

Quick arm of the system

It is possible to arm the system quickly from the Keypad by typing in a sin-

gle Keypad key, obviously the operation is not valid for the disarming

which will always need the code or the key.

Operating from the Keypad superkey

The quick arming of the system is carried out by keeping the key no. 4

pressed down for about 3 seconds. The acceptance of the operation will

be confirmed by the proper acoustic signal.

Disarming the system

During the disarming of the system possible partitioning groups will be re-

activated, the operation will be indicated by the extinguishing of the

ARMED led on the panel and on the possible Keypads and by the extin-

guishing of the red led on the key readers.

Operating from the panel OR

Mechanical key When the system is armed, in order to disarm it you must insert the me-

chanical key, turn it to the right and quickly release it.

Electronic key When the system is armed, in order to disarm it you must insert a master

key in the key reader and press the button. In this way the arming red led

will be extinguished. By turning the key you will obtain the disarming of the

system and the possible reinclusion of the partitioning groups.

Operating from the remote control key reader

The procedure is the same as for the "Electronic key" in the previous para-

graph.

Operating from the Keypad +

The disarming of the system is obtained by typing in the USER MAIN code

or the USER code followed by the function key ENTER.

If there should be any excluded groups, then they will be reactivated.

Forced disarming

This operation can be carried out only from the Keypad. The system is dis-

armed as normal but at the same time the telephonic warning alarm is acti-

vated (if it is connected).

Operating from the Keypad +

The forced disarming is obtained by typing in the PANIC code followed by

ENTER.

If there should be any excluded groups, then they will be reactivated.

Entering into the service mode

The service mode is necessary each time you must work with the exclu-

sion buttons or with the Reset button on the panel and it is indicated by the

special light Service on the front panel.

The service mode is also useful for blocking an alarm in course because

during the service mode all the alarms are disarmed.

Operating from the panel OR

Mechanical key Turn the key to the right and hold it in position for about 3 seconds until

you can hear an acoustic signal and the Service led lights up.

You can exit from the service mode repeating the same operation or after

not pressing any button for10 seconds.

Electronic key The service mode is obtained simply by inserting a Master Activator in

the key reader situated on the panel or in one of the other possible key

readers present in the system.

Operating from the remote control key reader

The procedure is the same as for the "Electronic key" in the previous para-

graph.

OPERATIONS 15

Resetting of the alarm memories

If an alarm has been set off in one or more zones there will be a memory

of the said alarm indicated by the flashing of the relative leds of the zone.

To cancel this signal the resetting of the alarm memories (reset) operation

must be carried out.

The alarm memories, after this operation, are not completely cancelled but

are available until the following resetting operation. For visualizing the

alarm memories after the resetting operation see paragraph "Extensive

visualization" under the advanced controls section.

If the installer has adequately programmed the control panel then the re-

setting of the alarm memories is carried out automatically each time the

control panel is armed.

Operating from the panel

With the control panel disarmed, put it into the service mode and press the

button RESET. The alarm memory indication on the zones will be can-

celled.

Operating from the Keypad

Type in the USER MAIN code followed by the function key RES.

Blocking of the alarm in course

When an alarm condition takes place, the connected alarm devices will be

activated, such as the siren and the telephone warning device. To block

the alarm put the control panel in the service mode.

If you should find that you are operating with the Keypad which is not en-

abled for the service mode then carry out the reset operation. If the reason

for the alarm remains, it is necessary to disarm the system.

In the case where the alarm is produced by a 24h zone which remains perma-

nently open, you must put the control panel in a maintenance/programming

state typing in the USER MAIN code followed by the function key PRG.

Extensive visualization

The extensive visualization is a particular condition in which the leds of the

zones and of the exclusions situated both on the panel as well as on the

possible Control Keypads assume a different meaning to the normal one

and they visualize respectively the alarm memories prior to the last reset

operation and the faulty conditions.

Once having entered into the extensive visualization, either by means of

the panel or by means of the Keypad, the zone leds will visualize the zone

memories prior to the last reset operation, whilst the exclusion leds will in-

dicate the faulty conditions with the meaning indicated by the appropriate

wording and summarized in the following table:

When the Warning light is illuminated, it is well to check, by means of the

extensive visualization, which faulty conditions are responsible and sub-

sequently call technical assistance in order to eliminate them.

If you forget to complete the extensive visualization phase then the control

panel will continue to operate as normal, except for the fact that the zone

and exclusion zone leds will have the meaning indicated above. All the

functions of the control panel (alarms, etc.) will be completely operational.

Operating from the panel for 3 sec.

To activate the extensive visualization you must press the RESET button

for about three seconds; the acceptance of the command will be indicated

by the appropriate acoustic signal.

To complete this phase it is necessary to press any one of the keys.

ATTENTION Make sure that the operation of pressing the RESET

button for 3 seconds takes place during the normal operational phase

of the control panel and not during service mode otherwise you will at-

tain the activation of the programming from the panel which is a phase

in which the control panel is not active.

If you should commit this error then you should immediately press the

RESET button 12 times until resetting the normal functioning of the

control panel.

OPERATIONS 17

Operating from the Keypad superkey

The extensive visualization is obtained by keeping key 5 pressed down for

about 3 seconds; the acceptance of the command will be indicated by the

appropriate acoustic signal.

To complete the extensive visualization phase it is necessary to press any

one of the keys.

Individual exclusion of the zones

The individual exclusion of the zones can be useful for excluding, in a con-

tinuous manner, the zones in which there are, for example, faulty sensors.

This type of exclusion is different to that of the partitioning groups being

that it remains always active both when the system is armed as well as

when it is disarmed.

The exclusion condition of a line is indicated by the exclusion led being lit up.

You will observe that if a zone has been excluded by means of the parti-

tioning group then it won’t be possible to exclude it like a single zone. Such

a situation will be indicated by the error signal.

Operating from the panel

The exclusion of the zones is carried out by means of special exclusion

keys only when the control panel is disarmed and in the service mode.

Operating from the Keypad +

The exclusion and the reinclusion of zones is possible only when the sys-

tem is disarmed by typing the USER MAIN code followed by EXC.

Doing this gives you access to a control phase of the system where it will

be possible to exclude /include the zones. This phase is called "Exclusion

menu" and is indicated on the control board by the lighting up of the yellow

led EXC.

The exclusion/inclusion of a single zone is carried out by pressing the nu-

merical key [1..8] corresponding to the zone to be excluded/included. In

this phase it is possible to act on the partitioning groups: the exclusion/in-

clusion of a group is carried out by pressing the letter A or B.

You exit from the exclusion menu phase by typing ENTER. In any case if

no key is pressed for 20 seconds then you will automatically exit from the

exclusion menu.

Activation of an immediate alarm

The control panel has 3 alarms which can be activated immediately from

the Control Keypad and which correspond to three methods of activating

the alarm itself:

- activation of siren and communicator;

- activation of siren only;

- activation of communicator only.

Operating from Keypad superkey

The activation of the alarms takes place by pressing the relative key for

about 3 seconds. The acceptance of the operation will be confirmed by the

special acoustic signal.

Temporary partitioning of the groups

In some cases it may be necessary, when the system is armed, to exclude

a group of zones temporarily for to reinclude it later (patrol round, service

personnel access, etc.). This operation is practicable both with the Keypad

as well as from the key reader using slightly different methods.

Operating from the remote control key readers

You must insert a valid key in one of the key readers and press the button

without releasing it: the system will not change its condition but the leds re-

lating to the partitioning groups will begin to scan the various possible con-

figurations, at this point release the button when the configuration desired

appears. This operation is possible both with a master key as well as with

a secondary key. The reinclusion of the group will take place:

 carrying out the same operation with the key;

 disarming the system.

This operation is realizable following the same methods both from the key

readers on the panel as well as from the remote control key readers.

For the temporary partitioning carried out with the electronic key, the auto-

matic reinclusion is not envisaged after the patrol time.

If you must supply the service personnel with a key for carrying out this op-

eration it is advisable to programme a secondary key so that it is impossi-

ble to disarm the system.

Operating from the Keypad +

Typing one of the two group codes (GROUP A, GROUP B)followed by EN-

TER will exclude the relative group. The reinclusion can take place in one

of the following ways:

 re-entering the group code used for excluding;

 automatically after the prefixed patrol time, if the PATROL ON option has

been activated (Patrol active);

 disarming the system.

It must be observed that the exclusion of groups overlaps to that of each

single zone, therefore, if before the exclusion of groups a zone has already

been excluded, then on the reinclusion of the group it will remain the same.

The exclusions will however always be clearly indicated on the panel and

on the Control Keypads by means of the exclusion leds and on the key

readers by means of the lighting up of the group exclusion leds.
