Your appliance is provided with a safety lock. Introduce the key (provided inside the envelope

containing the Instructions Booklet) into the appropriate key hole and turn it 180

clockwise or

anticlockwise to either lock or unlock the appliance door, as shown in ﬁgure.

Attention: keep the key out of childrens’ reach, well away from the appliance.

WARNINGS

It is most important that this instruction book

should be retained with the appliance for future

reference. Should the appliance be sold or trans-

ferred to another owner, or should you move house

and leave the appliance, always ensure that the

book is supplied with the appliance in order that

the new owner can be acquainted with the func-

tioning of the appliance and the relevant warnings.

These warnings are provided in the interest of

safety. You must read them carefully before

installing or using the appliance.

This appliance is designed to be operated by

adults. Children should not be allowed to tamper

with the controls or play with the appliance.

Any electrical work required to install this appliance

should be carried out by a qualiﬁed electrician or

competent person.

This appliance should be serviced by an authorized

Service Centre, and only genuine spare parts

should be used.

It is dangerous to alter the speciﬁcations or modify

this appliance in any way.

Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance

does not stand on the electrical supply cable.

The domestic refrigerators and freezers are designed

to be used speciﬁcally for the storage of edible food-

stuffs only.

Frozen food must not be re-frozen once it has been

thawed out.

Manufacturers’ storage recommendations should

be strictly adhered to. Refer to relevant instructions.

There are working parts in this appliance which

heat up. Always ensure that there is adequate

ventilation as a failure to do this will result in

component failure and possible food loss. See

installation instructions.

Parts which heat up should not be exposed. Wher-

ever possible the back of the appliance should be

against a wall.

Before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried

out, be sure to switch off and unplug the appliance.

If the appliance is transported horizontally, it is

possible that the oil contained in the compressor

ﬂows in the refrigerant circuit. It is advisable to wait

at least two hours before connecting the appliance

to allow the oil to ﬂow back in the compressor.

The inner lining of the appliance consists of chan-

nels through which the refrigerant passes. If these

should be punctured this would damage the appli-

ance beyond repair and cause food loss. DO NOT

USE SHARP INSTRUMENTS to scrape off frost or

ice. Frost may be removed by using the scraper

provided. Under no circumstances should solid ice

be forced off the liner. Solid ice should be allowed

to thaw when defrosting the appliance. See defrost

instructions.

Do not place carbonated or ﬁzzy drinks in the

freezer as it creates pressure on the container,

which may cause it to explode, resulting in damage

to the appliance.

This appliance is heavy. Care should be taken when

moving it.

Ice lollies can cause frost burns if consumed

straight from the appliance.

Under no circumstances should you attempt to

repair the appliance yourself. Repairs carried out by

inexperienced persons may cause injury or more

serious malfunctioning. Refer to your local Service

Centre, and always insist on genuine spare parts.

This appliance does not contain gasses which

could damage the ozone layer, in either its refrig-

erant circuit or insulation materials; it must never-

theless be disposed off in a proper manner, in

accordance with regulations for protection of the

environment.

INSTALLATION

Caution

If this appliance featuring magnetic door seals is to re-

place an older appliance having a spring lock (latch)

on the door or lid, be sure to make that spring lock un-

usable before you discard the old appliance.

This will prevent it from becoming a death-trap for a

child.

Location

Place the appliance away from all heat sources, such

as: radiators, heating stoves, direct sunlight, etc. Best

results are obtained with a room temperature ranging

between +18

C and +43

C. Make sure that there is

nothing at the back, at the top and at the bottom of

the appliance to obstruct air circulation. For a more ef-

ﬁcient operation of the appliance, the minimum dis-

tance between the top of the appliance and other

overhanging kitchen furniture, if any, should be at

least 100 mm (see Fig. 1/A). However, the best solu-

tion would be that shown in Fig. 1/B with no over-

hanging furniture.

Two adjustable feet make it possible to accurately lev-

el the appliance.

Rear spacers

In the plastic envelope containing the Operating In-

structions are also included two wall spacers to be ﬁt-

ted into the special openings provided on the back of

the appliance.

Push-ﬁt the spacers into the openings, making sure

that arrow «A» is positioned as per Fig. 2 and then

turn the spacers through 45

until they lock in (arrow

in vertical position).

Electrical connection

Before you plug the appliance into an A.C. mains sup-

ply, make sure that the voltage and frequency shown

on the rating plate correspond to your home supply. A

6% ﬂuctuation above or below the rated voltage is ad-

missible.

To adapt the appliance to other voltages, use an au-

totransformer of suitable capacity.

Important

It is essential that the appliance be connected to an

efﬁcient earth tap. For this purpose the supply cable

plug incorporates a special earth contact. If the sock-

ets of your domestic wiring system are not grounded,

have the appliance connected to a separate ground

wire by a qualiﬁed electrician in accordance with the

existing safety regulations.

The manufacturer declines to accept any liability

should this safety rule not be observed.

Cleaning the interior

Before using the appliance for the ﬁrst time, wash the

interior and all internal accessories with lukewarm wa-

ter and some neutral soap so as to remove the typical

smell of a brand-new product, then dry thoroughly. Do

not use detergents which will leave an odour or abra-

sive powders on the interior, as these will damage the

ﬁnish.

Reversing the doors

Before carrying out any work on the appliance, unplug it

from the power socket.

Remove the upper hinge (Fig. 3) and slide the top door off

the middle hinge.

Remove the middle hinge, turn it through 180

and reﬁt it

on the opposite side (Fig. 4) after having removed the

plugs which mask the holes. The plugs must be reﬁtted in

the holes left open on the opposite side.

Reﬁt the top door and the top hinge. Unscrew the left-

hand levelling foot, which will be reﬁtted on the opposite

side. Unscrew the right-hand levelling foot (H), the corre-

sponding hinge (I) and the stop (L) and reﬁt all these on the

left-hand side (Fig. 5).

Reverse the handles after having removed the clip-in

screw covers. The unused holes are masked with plastic

plugs which should be removed and reﬁtted in the holes

left open.

Attention

After completion of the door reversibility operation, verify

that the door gasket is adherent to the cabinet. If the am-

bient temperature is cold (i.e. in Winter), the gasket may

not ﬁt perfectly to the cabinet. In that case, wait for the

natural ﬁtting of the gasket or accelerate this process by

heating up the part involved with a normal hairdrier.

OPERATION

Starting-up and Temperature Regulation

Insert the plug into the wall socket. Open the refriger-

ator door and turn the thermostat knob, to be found

on the upper right side of the inner liner, clockwise,

beyond the «

», position, to start the appliance.

Temperature adjustment is obtained by turning the

thermostat knob to the required setting. A medium

setting is generally the most suitable.

However, the thermostat knob setting should be ad-

justed depending on the temperature required inside

the appliance. This, in turn, depends on a number of

factors such as the ambient temperature, the number

of times the door is opened, the quantity of food

stored and the location of the appliance. Turn the

knob clockwise, to higher numbers, to obtain a lower

temperature, or anticlockwise if a higher temperature

is required.

Freezing fresh food

The 4-stars compartment ( ) is suitable for long

term storage of commercially frozen food, and for

freezing fresh food.

Under normal circumstances, to freeze fresh foods it

is not necessary to change the setting of the thermo-

stat knob with respect to the normal running position.

However, for a quicker freezing operation, turn the

thermostat knob to the coldest setting, but remember

that, in this condition, the refrigerating compartment

temperature might drop below 0

C. If this occurs reset

thermostat knob to a warmer setting.

To help you make the most of the freezing process,

here are some important hints:

Place the food to be frozen on the shelf.

The maximum quantity of food which can be frozen in

24 hrs is shown on the rating plate.

Only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned,

foodstuffs.

Prepare the fresh food in small portions to enable it to

be rapidly and completely frozen and to make it possi-

ble subsequently to thaw only the quantity required at

the time.

Wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene and

make sure that the packages are airtight.

It is advisable to show on the single food packet the

freezing-in date to enable you to keep tap of the stor-

age time.

Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food which

is already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in temperature

of the latter.

Important

Do not put carbonated liquids (ﬁzzy drinks, etc.) in the

freezing compartment as they may burst.

Water ices, if consumed immediately after removal

from the freezing compartment, can possibly cause

the skin to be freeze burnt.

Remember that, once thawed, frozen food deterio-

rates rapidly.

On the inner door you will ﬁnd a list of foods followed

by a number. These numbers indicate the maximum

period of time for which the food in question may be

conserved (in months).

Ice-cube Production

This appliance is equipped with trays for the produc-

tion of ice-cubes. Fill these trays with water to 3/4 of

their height, then put them in the freezer compart-

ment. The ice-cubes may be shaken out from the

trays by simply twisting; do not use metallic instru-

ments to remove the trays from the freezer.

Storage of frozen food

To obtain the best performance from this appliance,

we strongly recommend that you make sure that the

commercially frozen foodstuffs were adequately

stored by the retailer and, furthermore, be sure that

these frozen foodstuffs are transferred from the food-

store to the consumer in the shortest possible time (a

temperature increase of the frozen food could shorten

its storage period). It is also advisable not to exceed

the storage period indicated by the producer of the

food.

Finally, do not open the door frequently or leave it

open longer than is absolutely necessary.

If there is a power failure when food is in the freezer,

do not open the door of the freezing compartment.

The frozen food will not be affected if the power cut is

of short duration (a temperature increase of the frozen

food could shorten its safe storage period), otherwise,

it is recommended that the food should be used with-

in a very short time.

Thawing

Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can

be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room

temperature, depending on the time available for this

operation.

Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directly

from the freezer: in this case, cooking will take longer.

Storage of foods in refrigerator compart-

ment

To achieve the best results with the refrigerator com-

partment, you should follow one or two very simple

rules:

Do not put warm foods or evaporating liquids in the

refrigerator.

Cover or wrap foods (particularly if they have a strong

smell or contain aromatic herbs).

Do not cover the shelves (grids) with paper or plastic

since this blocks circulation of air in the compartment.

Raw meat:

wrap in polythene bags and place on top

of the salad crisper and, for safety, only store in this

way for one or two days at the most.

Fruit & vegetables:

these should be thoroughly

cleaned and placed in the bottom salad crisper.

Butter & cheese:

these should be placed in special

airtight containers or wrapped in aluminium foil or pol-

ythene bags to exclude as much air as possible.

Milk bottles:

these should have a cap and should be

stored in the bottle rack on the door.

Movable shelves

The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series

of runners so that the shelves can be positioned as

desired.

Positioning the door shelves

To permit storage of food packages of various sizes,

the door shelves can be adjusted in height.

To make these adjustments proceed as follows:

Gradually pull the shelf in the direction of the arrows

until it comes off, then reposition as required.

Defrosting

Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator

of the refrigerator compartment every time the motor

compressor stops, during normal use. The defrost wa-

ter drains out through a trough (Fig. 10) into a special

container on the back of the appliance where it evap-

orates.

Clean periodically the water discharge hole in the cen-

tre of the drip collector. Use the special cleaner pro-

vided, which you will ﬁnd already inserted into the dis-

charge hole (Fig. 10).

The freezer compartment, however, will become pro-

gressively covered with frost. This should be removed

with the special plastic scraper provided, whenever

the thickness of the frost exceeds 4 mm. During this

operation it is not necessary to switch off the power

supply or to remove the foodstuffs. However, when

the ice becomes very thick on the inner liner, complete

defrosting should be carried out and it is advisable to

carry out this operation when the appliance is empty.

To carry out complete defrosting of the freezer com-

partment ( )proceed as follows:

Unplug the appliance from the power supply or set the

thermostat on the «

» position. Remove the icecube

trays and the frozen foods and wrap them in several

sheets of newspaper or, even better, in thermally insu-

lated containers, and then keep them in a cool place.

Keep the freezer door open and introduce a container

ﬁlled with hot water (taking care to place this on a lay-

er of cardboard) so as to accelerate the defrosting

process.

Absorb all remaining water with a sponge and then

accurately dry the freezer. Reconnect the appliance to

the power supply and then set the thermostat to cold-

est position for approximately 2 hours and then shift

into the normal functioning status. Replace the foods

previously removed from the freezer.

Important

Never use knives or metal objects to scrape away the

accumulated frost which might damage the cooling

circuit.

Remember that an increase of the surface tempera-

ture of already-frozen foods may signiﬁcantly de-

crease the duration of their conservation.

MAINTENANCE

Prior to undertaking any maintenance operation be

sure to unplug the appliance from the wall socket as a

safety precaution.

Clean the interior periodically with lukewarm water

and some bicarbonate of soda; the cabinet exterior

with a Silicone wax spray; the condenser and the mo-

tor compressor with a brush or a vacuum cleaner.

During periods when the appliance is not in use, take

the following precautions:

unplug the appliance from the power supply;

remove all foodstuffs from the appliance;

clean the interior and all accessories;

leave the doors ajar to facilitate the circulation of air in

the interior of the cabinet so as to prevent unpleasant

odours from accumulating in the appliance.

Replacing the interior light bulb

(Fig. 11)

The light bulb of the refrigerator can easily be

reached.

If the light does not come on when the door is

opened, check that the light bulb is correctly screwed

in; if after this it still does not light up, replace the bulb.

What to do if the appliance is not function-

ing properly

If something is not working properly, check that:

the plug is ﬁrmly in the wall socket and the mains

power switch is on;

there is an electricity supply (ﬁnd out by plugging in

another appliance);

the thermostat knob is in the correct position.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Furthermore

If the appliance seems too noisy, check that the sides

are not touching furniture that can transmit or amplify

a noise or a vibration.

Also, check that the piping of the refrigerant system

does not vibrate. If there are water drops on the bot-

tom of the cabinet, check that the defrost water drain

opening is not obstructed (Fig. 3).

If your appliance is still not working properly after

making the above checks, contact the nearest service

centre.

To obtain fast service, it is essential that when you ap-

ply for it you specify the model & serial number of your

appliance which can be found either in the warranty or

on the rating plate.
